Novel polymorphisms of dopa decarboxylase gene and their association with lamb quality traits in Indonesian sheep

        Harahap Ratna Sholatia,Noor Ronny Rachman,Endrawati Yuni Cahya,Darusman Huda Shalahudin,Gunawan Asep 아세아·태평양축산학회 2023 Animal Bioscience Vol.36 No.6

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the polymorphisms of the dopa decarboxylase (DDC) gene and association analysis with lamb quality and expression quantification of the DDC gene in phenotypically divergent Indonesian sheep. Methods: The totals of 189 rams with an average body weight of 24.12 kg at 10 to 12 months were used to identify DDC gene polymorphism using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Among 189 rams, several rams representing various sheep genotypes were used for an association study between genotypes and phenotypic traits with proc general linear model (GLM) analysis. In addition, the gene expression analysis of the DDC mRNA in the phenotypically divergent sheep population was analyzed using quantitative reverse-transcription PCR. Results: The DDC gene (g. 5377439 G>A) showed polymorphisms that indicated three genotypes: AA, AG, and GG. The DDC gene polymorphism was significantly associated (p≤0.05) with carcass characteristics including carcass percentage, carcass length, hot and cold carcass; physical properties of lamb quality including pH value; retail cut carcass; fatty acid composition such as fat content, pentadecanoic acid (C15:0), tricosylic acid (C23:0), lignoceric acid (C24:0), oleic acid (C18:1n9c), elaidic acid (C18:1n9t), nervonic acid (C24:1), linoleic acid (C18:2n6c), arachidonic acid (C20:4n6), cervonic acid (C22:6n3); and mineral content including potassium (K). The GG genotype of the DDC gene had the best association with lamb quality traits. The DDC gene expression analysis mRNA showed no significant difference (p≥0.05) between lamb quality traits. Conclusion: The DDC gene could be used as a potential candidate gene to improve lamb quality.

      • Poster Session:PS 0203 ; Endocrinology : Effect of Life Style Modifi cation and Metformin on Adma Level in Obesity

        ( Sari Harahap ),( Dharma Lindarto ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Obesity, accumulation of excessive adipose tissue, is a risk factor of cardiovascular diseases. Human adipocytes produce asymmetrical dimethyl arginine (ADMA) an inhibitor nitric oxide synthase which has important role in endothel dysfunction, and express the full enzymatic machinery responsible for ADMA metabolism (biosynthesis and degradation). Life style modifi cation and metformin have lowering body weight and ADMA level effects. This study intends to fi nd out whether life style modifi cation with metformin in obese subjects can make the improvement of ADMA level better. Methods: This was a randomized double blind clinical trial held in 12 weeks on 40 obese subjects which divided into 2 group, life style modification plus metformin group and life style modifi cation plus placebo group. Antropometric parametre and ADMA level were measured before and after intervention. Results: After intervention, there were decreament in ADMA level, body weight, waist circumfrence and body mass index in both group. Mean of ADMA reduction in metformin versus placebo group was 0,0235 ± 0,12 ug/l vs 0,03 ± 0,1ug/l (p=0,726). Mean of weight reduction in metformin versus placebo group was 3,88 ± 1,23 kg vs 2,36 ± 1,12 kg (p=0,0001). Mean of waist circumfrence reduction in metformin versus placebo group was 6,39 ± 0,99 cm vs 5,75 ± 1,71 cm (p=0,0001). Mean of body mass index reduction in metformin and placebo group was 1,76 ± 0,85 kg/m2 vs 1,08 ± 0,61 kg/m2 (p=0,0001). Conclusions: Implementation of lifestyle modification in 12 weeks could improve some antropometric parametres but addition of metformin did not improve the ADMA level signifi cantly in obese subjects.

A New Commodity Distribution Approach Based on Asymmetric Traveler Salesman Using Ant Colony Algorithm

        Tua Halomoan Harahap,Ngakan Ketut Acwin Dwijendra,Sulieman Ibraheem Shelash Al-Hawary,A. Heri Iswanto,Noor Mohammed Ahmed,Yousra Mahdi Hasan,Saad Ghazi Talib,Purnima Chaudhary,Yasser Fakri Mustafa 대한산업공학회 2022 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.21 No.3

The traveling salesman problem is one of the most well-known hybrid optimization problems. It is one of the (NP-complete) problems that its various applications have theoretically and operationally attracted the attention of re-searchers. Given that the existing optimization methods to solve such problems include many variables and constraints and reduce their practical efficiency in solving problems with larger dimensions, we have seen the use of algorithms in recent decades. In this research, after determining a linear programming model for the asylum seeker problem with asymmetric distances and solving it in Lingo software, I used two ant cloning algorithms and a forbidden search algorithm to solve the problem in large dimensions. By adjusting the parameters of the two algorithms using the Taguchi method to prove the efficiency of the two algorithms, we compared their results by solving the linear programming model in small-dimensional problems. Then, to compare the results and execution time of the two algorithms, we solved the problem in medium and large dimensions.

Scheduling for a Container Supply Chain to Minimize Costs Using the Meta-Innovation Approach

        Tua Halomoan Harahap,Hikee Altaee,Paitoon Chetthamrongchai,Andrej P. Peressypkin,Anis Siti Nurrohkayati,Vo Hoang Ca,Huynh Tan Hoi,John William Grimaldo Guerrero,M. Kavitha 대한산업공학회 2022 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.21 No.2

In this study, a problem of scheduling shipping lines for a container supply chain is addressed in order to minimize the costs of charging ships and the cost of maintaining the inventory of empty containers in the port by considering the time window of the port and the amount of fuel. This is a hard-NP problem and cannot be solved on a large scale with precise methods in a logical time. Therefore, to solve and optimize the model, a meta-innovative algorithm, a genetic algorithm, has been used. Also, to increase the effectiveness of the genetic algorithm, the parameters of the algorithm are adjusted using the Taguchi method. Finally, a number of problems have been solved to show the performance of this algorithm and its computational results have been compared with the results obtained from GAMS software. The study’s results demonstrate that the efficiency of displacement inside ports and fuel price on the overall costs, the optimal number of ships utilized, and the optimal scheduling table.

Nabila Clydea Harahap,Putu Wuri Handayani,Achmad Nizar Hidayanto 대한의료정보학회 2021 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.27 No.2

Objectives: This study explored health workers’ perceptions and experiences regarding the maternal and neonatal referralsystem, focusing on barriers of health information systems and technologies (IS/IT) at primary health centers (PHCs) inSouth Tangerang, Indonesia. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews, which wereconducted at the South Tangerang District Health Office and three PHCs. Interviews were conducted with nine participantsresponsible for maternal and neonatal referrals in their organizations. The data were analyzed using qualitative contentanalysis. Results: In South Tangerang, the Primary Health Care Information System (SIMPUS) is used to register patientsand record data on medical treatment. To facilitate referrals, the PHCs currently use the Integrated Referral Information System(SISRUTE), P-Care, and the Integrated Emergency Management System (SPGDT). The following four IS/IT barriers tosupport maternal and neonatal referrals were found: technology, human resources, organizational support, and the referralprocess and implementation. Conclusions: The barriers in technology, human resources, and organizational support causeproblems in the maternal and neonatal referral process and in the implementation of referrals. Barriers to referrals can influencepatients’ ability to receive appropriate care in a timely fashion and lead to inefficiency in maternal and neonatal referrals. This study contributes knowledge about IS/IT implementation in maternal and neonatal referral systems and providesrecommendations to health regulators and application developers for the implementation of IS/IT in Indonesia.

From campus to legislatures: Women’s experience of electoral politics in Indonesia

        Yumasdaleni,Harahap Aida Fitria,Jakimow Tanya,Siahaan Asima Yanty 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2022 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.28 No.4

The path from student politics to electoral politics is a well-worn one across Asia. Literature examining this pathway overwhelmingly does so from the perspective of men, failing to adequately acknowledge women's relative inability to make the transition from campuses to legislatures in the same way. This article focuses on Indonesian women's experiences to explain why they remain underrepresented in politics and sheds light on the ways its student movements have shaped democracy. Through in-depth interviews with women who have and have not entered electoral politics after early political apprenticeships in student movements and focus group discussions with current students on potential political careers, we identify the barriers and opportunities faced by women in enhancing their political participation. We argue that the literature on student politics across Asia will remain incomplete without seriously attending to women's experiences. We thereafter argue for the need to identify ways to support them in their journey from campus to legislatures.

Investigation of Sm3+-doped PBNaG glasses for orange LED applications

        Rajagukguk Juniastel,Harahap Nursaida,Situmorang Rappel,Hakim S. Abd 한국물리학회 2021 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.78 No.3

The doping of a host glass with rare-earth ions is quite interesting when investigating their wide applications in several fields, such as laser and optical fibers. In this study, the glass medium had a composition of (70 − x) P2O5– 10Bi2O3–10Na2O–10Gd2O3–xSm2O3 with x = 0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 3.0 mol% and were fabricated using melt-quenching method. The optical properties of Sm3+- doped samples with different Sm3+ concentrations were determined by measuring the absorption and luminescence spectra in the visible light region. Both the direct and the indirect bandgap energies were slightly decreased after doping with Sm3+ ions. The maximum experimental oscillator strength was 3.65 × 10–6 for the band transition 6H5/2 → 6F7/2 over glass PBNaGSm5. The Judd–Ofelt parameters were applied to evaluate the properties of glass samples. The highest emission intensity was located in the orange range with a wavelength of 597 nm under an excitation wavelength of 401 nm. An obvious decrease in the lifetime was observed at higher Sm3+ ion concentrations.

Phytochemical Screening and Antibacterial Activity Coix lacryma-jobi Oil

        Diky Setya Diningrat,Marsal Risfandi,Novita Sari Harahap,Ayu Nirmala Sari,Kusdianti,Henny Kharina Siregar (사)한국식물생명공학회 2020 JOURNAL OF PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY Vol.47 No.1

Coix lacryma-jobi (Hanjeli) is known to posses anti-microbial properties. Therefore, phytochemical compounds of C. lacryma-jobi have been studied to produce novel antimicrobial agents as treatments against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The objective of this study was to determine the phytochemical composition and antibacterial activity of the C. lacryma-jobi oil against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis. The phytochemical composition of the oil was determined via gas chromatography mass spectrophotometry (GC-MS). Moreover, agar disk and agar well diffusion were employed to screen the antibacterial activity of the oil. An agar well diffusion test was implemented to determinate MIC’s (minimum inhibitory concentrations). Dodecanoic acid, tetradecanoic acid, 2,3-dihydroxypropylester, 1,3-dioctanoin, N-methoxy-N-methyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thiopyran- 6-carboxamide, propanamide, 5-Amino-1-(quinolin-8-yl)-1,2,3- triazole-4-carboxamide, and pyridine were identified in the C. lacryma-jobi oil. The MIC value of the oil was 0.031 g/L and the MBC of the oil was 0.125 g/L effective in all test bacteria. Dodecanoic acid displayed inhibitory activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Therefore, our research demonstrated C. lacryma-jobi (Hanjeli) oil exhibited antibacterial activity against E. coli, S. aureus, and B. subtilis. These research suggest that C. lacryma-jobi root oil could be used for medicinal purposes; however clinical and in vivo tests must be performed to evaluate its potential as an antibacterial agent.
