We present the results of the near-infrared (NIR) to mid-infrared (MIR) slit spectroscopic observations of the diffuse emission toward nine positions in the nearby irregular galaxy Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) with the Infrared Camera (IRC) on board AKARI. The unique characteristic of AKARI/IRC provides a great opportunity to analyze variations in the unidentified infrared (UIR) bands based on continuous spectra from 2.5 to $13.4{\mu}m$ of the same slit area. The observed variation of $I_{3.3}/I_{11.3}$ suggests destruction of small-sized UIR band carriers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in harsh environments. This result demonstrates that the UIR $3.3{\mu}m$ band provides us powerful information on the excitation conditions and/or the size distribution of PAHs, which is of importance for understanding the evolutionary process of hydrocarbon grains in the Universe. It also suggests a new diagnostic diagram of two band ratios, such as $I_{3.3}/I_{11.3}$ versus $I_{7.7}/I_{11.3}$, for the interstellar radiation conditions. We discuss on the applicability of the diagnostic diagram to other astronomical objects, comparing the LMC results with those observed in other galaxies such as NGC 6946, NGC 1313, and M51.

Characteristics of oscillating lifted flames in coflow have been investigated experimentally with highly
diluted propane in normal and micro gravities to elucidate the stabilization mechanism. In normal gravity,
oscillating lifted flames with the frequency of 2-5 Hz were observed in a certain range of fuel mole fraction
and jet velocity. The oscillation frequency correlated well with jet velocity in terms of Strouhal number,
defined with the stoichiometric laminar burning velocity. This demonstrated the importance of the
propagation characteristics of tribrachial flames at the base of lifted flames in the flame oscillation.
Microgravity experiments have been conducted after the oscillating lifted flames are stabilized in normal
gravity. During the change in gravitational acceleration, the flames rapidly stabilized as nozzle attached
flame mode and became stationary. This behavior confirmed that the lifted flame oscillation in normal
gravity is due to the buoyancy driven instability. Numerical simulation has also been performed
accounting the change in gravitational acceleration. The results successfully predicted the transition
behavior from oscillating lifted flame in normal gravity to stationary attached flame in microgravity and the
variation of flame shapes during the transition.

Using the uniaxial strain method, the lattice parameters and the atomic positions of the quasi-two-dimensional organic con-ductor θ-(BEDT-TTF)2CsZn(SCN)4 were measured at room temperature with piston pressures up to 10 kbar applied parallel to thec-axis in the conducting plane. The lattice parameterc was predominantlyreduced with increasing the piston pressure although asmall Poisson’s eect occurred in the parametera. Band calculation showed that the transfer integrals under the uniaxial com-pression bythe piston pressure of 10 kbar became similar to those ofh-(BEDT-TTF)2 RbZn(SCN)4. This result is consistent withthat of transport measurements reported alreadyand suggests that a charge disproportionation, which has been observed in theRbZn-compound, occurs also in the present compound under the uniaxial compressive strain.

The crystalline and electronic structures of thea-phase BEDT-TTF organic superconductors were controlled by the uniaxiala-axiswhile thec-axis compression reduced the bandwidth. Similar controls were possible also in theh-phase compounds. Thea-axiscompression made the material metallic although thec-axis one insulating. It is possible to systematically explain these changes inelectronic properties under the uniaxial compression in terms of the changes in the electronic band structure in the conducting layer.. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. The interaction of short intense laser pulses with clusters enhanced the absorption of the incident laser light compared to solid targets. Due to the increased absorption, these targets are heated significantly, leading to enhanced emission of X-rays and generation of multiply charged ions with kinetic energies from tens of keV to tens of MeV. Possible applications of these targets include an X-ray source for microscopy or lithography and an ion source for table-top accelerators. The recent results obtained in Kansai Photon Science Institute for the short, moderate intensity, ~5 × 1017W/cm2, laser pulses interactions with large clusters, are presented. Applications of a femtosecondlaser-plasma cluster-based source for different types of nanostructure imaging are discussed.
PROPERTIES OF DUST IN EARLY-TYPE GALAXIES BASED ON THE ALL-SKY-SURVEY DATA AND NEAR-INFRARED SPECTRA
Mori, T.,Oyabu, S.,Kaneda, H.,Ishihara, D.,Yamagishi, M. The Korean Astronomical Society 2012 天文學論叢 Vol.27 No.4
We present the properties of dust and the near-infrared spectral features in nearby early-type galaxies. The properties of dust are obtained from the AKARI far-infrared all-sky survey diffuse map. The AKARI/IRC is used for the near-infrared spectra. We improve spectral data with the new dark subtraction method on the basis of the knowledge acquired in our laboratory experiments of the engineering-model detector for the IRC. We have succeeded in fitting the continuum by a power-law function and detecting CO and SiO absorption features in early-type galaxy spectra. Comparing the properties of dust and near-infrared spectral features, we find that the power-law slope depends on dust temperature, but not on the dust mass, which suggests that low-luminosity AGNs may contribute to the changes in the power-law slope and dust temperature.

In order to investigate the mechanism of regulation of progesterone production, quail were hypophysectomized at various times during the ovulation cycle, and granulose cells were isolated from follicles 4 hr after the operation. They were incubated in vitro at $40^{\circ}C$ with or without LH or dibutyryl cyclic AMP, and the amounts of progesterone produced during 3 hr of incubation were measured by radioimmunoassay. Hypophysectomy at 8 hr or 20 hr before the predicted time of ovulation caused a reduced responsiveness of F1 granulosa cells to exogenous LH or dibutyrul cyclic AMP. Although hypophysectomy at 24 hr before ovulation caused a slight reduction of responsiveness of F1 granulosa cells, the reduction of the progesterone production during the incubation without any stimuli was prominent by the sham operation. These results suggest that the presence of pituitary gland influences the ability of the granulose cells to produce progesterone in response to LH or dibutyryl cyclic AMP.
