In the KSTAR Tokamak, a 'Tangential Thomson Scattering' (TTS) diagnostic system has been designed and installed to measure electron density and temperature profiles. In the edge system, TTS has 12 optical fiber bundles to measure the edge profiles with 10-15 mm spatial resolution. These 12 optical fibers and their spatial resolution are not enough to measure the pedestal width with a high accuracy but allow observations of L-H transition or H-L transitions at the edge. For these measurements, the prototype ITER edge Thomson Nd:YAG laser system manufactured by JAEA in Japan is installed. In this paper, the KSTAR TTS system is briefly described and some TTS edge profiles are presented and compared against the KSTAR Charge Exchange Spectroscopy and other diagnostics. The future upgrade plan of the system is also discussed in this paper.

We investigate the relation between star formation activity and PAH $3.3{\mu}m$ emission. Our targets are mid-infrared-excess galaxies selected from the AKARI all-sky survey point source catalog. We performed AKARI near-infrared spectroscopy for them. As a result, we obtained $2.5-5{\mu}m$spectra of 79 galaxies, and selected 35 star-forming galaxies out of them. Comparing the PAH $3.3{\mu}m$ luminosities with the infrared luminosities, we find a linear correlation between them. However, by adding the results from literatures for luminous infrared galaxies and ultra-luminous infrared galaxies that are more luminous than our sample, the ratio of the PAH to the infrared luminosity is found to decrease towards the luminous end.
The (γSF) Method - Determination of Radiative Neutron Capture Cross Sections for Unstable Nuclei

An indirect method of determining radiative neutron-capture cross sections for unstable nuclei which we refer to as the γ-ray strength function (γSF) method is outlined and applied to Zr and Sn isotopes. Photoneutron cross sections for ^(91,92,94,96)Zr and ^(117,116)Sn near neutron threshold show the presence of extra γ-ray strengths known as giant M1 and pygmy E1 resonances on top of the low-energy γSF of GDR. Based on the γSF method, we present (n,γ) cross sections for two radioactive nuclei, a long-lived fission product, ^(93)Zr with T^(1/2) = 1.5 × 10^6 y and an s-process branching point nucleus, ^(95)Zr with T^(1/2) = 64.0 d.
Motion Control of Linear Pulse Motor for Artificial Heart
H.Yamada,T.Mizuno,Y.Izumi,H.Wakiwaka,Y.Kataoka,Y.Kikuchi 전력전자학회 1998 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-
This paper deals with the difference of the static and kinetic thrust characteristics of a linear pulse motor (LPM) without and with feedback control for a total artificial heart (TAH). In general, the kinetic thrust of a LPM without feedback control decreases as increasing the mover velocity. The kinetic thrust characteristics of the LPM with feedback control are improved approximately 30 % as compared with the LPM without feedback control in the high velocity range.
