<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The influence of hydrogen on the onset of plastic deformation in a CoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy (HEA) was examined through the analysis of the load at which first pop-in during spherical nanoindentation experiments occurs on hydrogen-charged and subsequently aged specimens. Results reveal that the dissolved hydrogen lowers the plastic flow resistance, indicated by the shear yield strength, <I>τ</I> <SUB>y</SUB>, by modifying defect formation energies. Aging, subsequent to charging, leads to recovery of <I>τ</I> <SUB>y</SUB>, but only partially. The results are discussed in terms of the vacancy-mediated dislocation nucleation, which is supported by the estimated activation volume for deformation.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
A Study on Motivation to Consumer Social Information Search

With the advent of Web2.0 era, more and more consumers begin to use social media to obtain the required information, this kind of information search mode of human interaction -- social information search and traditional human-computer interactive search mode has the essential difference. Understanding the motivation to consumer social information search is of great significance to understand the characteristics of consumer information search. Through the literature review, this study summarizes the three motivations to consumer social information search: risk aversion motivation, entertainment motivation and social motivation. In future studies, we will use structured interviews and empirical methods to further confirm the motivations of consumers' social information search. This study is of certain significance to enrich the theory of social information search and to formulate targeted marketing strategies for enterprises.

A new liquid chromatographic chiral stationary phase based on (2S,3S)-O,O'-bis-(10-undecenoyl)-N,N'-bis-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)-2,3-diamino-1,4-butandiol was prepared starting from (2R,3R)-1,4-bis(benzyloxy)-2,3-butanediol. The new chiral stationary phase was applied to the resolution of racemic anilide derivatives of N-acetyl-a-amino acids, 1,1'-bi-2-naphthol and 3,3'-diaryl-1,1'-bi-2-naphthols. The CSP was also applied to the resolution of some chiral drugs including a diuretic, bendroflumethiazide, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents such naproxen and alminoprofen. In every case, the chiral recognition efficiency of the new CSP was quite excellent.

Radiotherapy is a frequent mode of cancer treatment, although the development of radioresistance limits its effectiveness. Extensive investigations indicate the diversity of the mechanisms underlying radioresistance. Here, we aimed to explore the effects of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 5 (ERK5) on lung cancer radioresistance and the associated mechanisms. Our data showed that ERK5 is activated during solid lung cancer development, and ectopic expression of ERK5 promoted cell proliferation and G2/M cell cycle transition. In addition, we found that ERK5 is a potential regulator of radiosensitivity in lung cancer cells. Mechanistic investigations revealed that ERK5 could trigger IR-induced activation of Chk1, which has been implicated in DNA repair and cell cycle arrest in response to DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs). Subsequently, ERK5 knockdown or pharmacological inhibition selectively inhibited colony formation of lung cancer cells and enhanced IR-induced G2/M arrest and apoptosis. In vivo, ERK5 knockdown strongly radiosensitized A549 and LLC tumor xenografts to inhibition, with a higher apoptotic response and reduced tumor neovascularization. Taken together, our data indicate that ERK5 is a novel potential target for the treatment of lung cancer, and its expression might be used as a biomarker to predict radiosensitivity in NSCLC patients.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>While HPLC chiral stationary phases (CSPs) based on chiral crown ethers have been known useful for the resolution of only racemic primary amino compounds or some secondary amino compounds, in this study, we first demonstrated that the CSP based on (+)-(18-crown-6)-2,3,11,12-tetracarboxylic acid is also useful for the resolution of <I>N</I>-benzoyl-α-amino acids, which do not contain a primary or secondary amino group. Especially, <I>N</I>-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)-α-amino acids were resolved better than corresponding <I>N</I>-(3-nitrobenzoyl)- or <I>N</I>-benzoyl-α-amino acids, the separation (<I>α</I>) and the resolution factors (<I>R</I><SUB>S</SUB>) for the resolution of eight <I>N</I>-(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)-α-amino acids being in the range of 1.06–1.81 and 0.54–2.81, respectively. The optimum mobile phase condition was the mixture of acetic acid–triethylamine–acetonitrile with the ratio of 0.05/0.25/100 (v/v/v).</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The possibility of further enhancing the strength of a (CoCrFeNi)<SUB>94</SUB>Ti<SUB>2</SUB>Al<SUB>4</SUB> high-entropy alloy (HEA), which is already strengthened by Ni<SUB>3</SUB>(Ti,Al) second-phase particles, by grain refinement through high-pressure torsion (HPT) is examined. Concomitant with nanograin formation, HPT was found to induce particle dissolution and structural transformation of the remnant particles. Nanoindentation experiments of nanocrystalline HEA, with and without particles in the pre-HPT microstructure, suggests that grain boundary strengthening is the dominant strengthening mechanism.</P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Dissecting the meteorological and genetic factors affecting rice grain quality in Northeast China

Background The Northeast Plain of China, which is an important region for the production of high grain quality rice in China. However, the grain quality of the rice produced varies across this region, even for the same cultivar. Objective In order to explore the meteorological factors that have the greatest infuence on quality and the transcriptional level diferences between diferent cultivars and diferent locations at grain flling stage. Methods We grew eight rice cultivars in three locations in Northeast China during two growing seasons (2017 and 2018). We recorded meteorological conditions, including air temperature, air temperature range, and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) during the grain-flling stage of each cultivar, and analyzed the grain quality of those eight cultivars. Results Across all eight cultivars, meteorological factors had a stronger efect on eating quality than genotype, while genotype had a stronger efect on milling quality. Of the three environmental factors assessed, PAR was signifcantly correlated with the most grain quality traits. Using RNA-sequencing analysis, we identifed 573 environment-specifc DEGs (Diferentially Expressed Genes), and 119 genotype-specifc DEGs; 11 DEGs were responsive to genotype×environment interactions. These DEGs were involved in many key metabolic processes. Conclusion Our results indicated that interactions among environmental factors, especially PAR, afected rice quality in Northeast China. Further analyses of the DEGs identifed herein may provide useful information for future breeding programs aiming to develop high grain quality rice varieties suitable for cultivation across Northeast China.
