컴퓨터 모의실험을 이용한 Stop-and-wait ARQ 기법 성능 평가

ARQ schemes are commonly used in various communication areas, for instance TCP protocol, to combat communication packet errors and there are three different types of ARQ protocol. In this paper, the performance of stop-and-wait ARQ scheme is evaluated with computer simulation and then compared with analytical results. Two different traffic generation modes are considered: the first one is the saturated traffic model and the other one is periodic arrival model based on exponential distribution. For performance measures, link utilization and average packet delay are used in this paper. According to numerical results, it is known that performance results from computer simulations coincide well with those by mathematical analysis. For the further study, we will continue to carry performance evaluations of two other ARQ schemes, go-back-N ARQ and selective repeat ARQ schemes.

Renal angiomyolipoma is an uncommon benign tumor of the kidney that consists of smooth muscle, blood vessels and mature adipose tissues. The most common benign renal tumor associated with spontaneous non-traumatic perirenal hemorrhage is angiomyolipoma, because of high vascularity. The ultrasonographic and computed tomographic images are sufficiently characteristic to permit accurate preoperative diagnosis. We report 2 cases of renal angiomyolipoma with spontaneous perirenal hemorrhage which were managed with nephrectomy.

Aplastic anemia is a disease characterized by pancytopenia in the peripheral blood and hypocellular bone marrow with the fatty infiltration. The causes of the acquired aplastic anemia were usually related to drugs and immune-related diseases. A 34-years old man was admitted due to general weakness. He has been going hemodialysis for 2 years because of end stage renal disease (ESRD) due to chronic glomerulonephritis. At admission, laboratory tests showed hemoglobin 6.2 g/dL, hematocrit 18.0 %, WBC 5,710mm (neutrophil 71.8%, lymphocyte 19.1%, monocyte 5.9%), reticulocyte 1.9%, platelet 93,000/mm, Fe 12.8 ug/dL, TIBC 204 ug/dL, ferritin 941.47 ng /ml, haptoglobin 0.72 g/L, vitamin B12 508.17 pmol/L, folate 24 ng/mL, total protein 6.54 g/dL, albumin 3.76 g/dL, Alk. pohsphatase 79 IU/L, AST 30.0 IU/L, ALT 39.7 IU/L, total bilirubin 0.57 mg/dl, BUN 79.4 mg/dl and creatinine 10.18 mg/dl. Peripheral blood smear showed the normocytic normochromic anemia with anisocytosis. Anemia was diagnosed but it was irresponsive to the recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO) and blood transfusion. In the bone marrow aspiration smear were there the hypoplastic myeloid and erythroid precursors. The bone marrow biopsy section showed the hypoplasia of all components (10-20%) and the fatty infiltration. We have experienced one case of the idiopathic aplastic anemia in a patient going through hemodialysis and we just report it with documentary records. 저자들은 혈액 투석 중인 환자에서 약물, 면역계 이상등의 원인을 발견할 수 없었음에도 재생 불량성 빈혈이 발생한 1예를 경험하여 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

Background/Aims: Several studies have found that the frequency of colorectal polyps increases significantly from the age of 50 years. The goal of this study was to determine the differences in the clinical characteristics of colorectal polyps between patients aged 50 years and older, and younger patients. Methods: The colonoscopy database of 3,304 patients at the Yeungnam University Medical Center between January 2009 and December 2009 was reviewed retrospectively. In total, 679 patients were divided into the younger group (n=170) and the older group (aged ≥50 years) (n=509). A matched case-control study was performed using propensity scores and 117 patients selected from each group. Results: Compared to the younger group, the older group had a significantly higher proportion of female patients, and patients with hypertension, a smoking history, and a history of taking medications. After performing the matched case-control study, 234 patients and 679 colon polyps were included in the analysis. Compared to the younger patients, the older patients had a significantly higher proportion of multiple lesions (57.3% vs 25.6%, p<0.001), left- and right-side distribution (35.9% vs 12.0%, p<0.001), and larger polyps (mean 9.1 mm vs 6.3 mm, p<0.001). A left-sided distribution was less common in the older group than in the younger group (35.0% vs 51.3%, p=0.025). Conclusions: The methods used to screen for colorectal cancer in older patients should include colonoscopy due to the shift to the right side as a common location for colorectal polyps in that age group. UVB Induces HIF-1α-Dependent TSLP Expression via the JNK and ERK Pathways

Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) may have a key role in the initiation and maintenance of allergic inflammatory diseases, including atopic dermatitis. The present study revealed that UVB radiation exposure could induce TSLP expression in human keratinocytes and a human skin equivalent model. In addition, we investigated the regulatory mechanism of UVB-induced TSLP expression in keratinocytes. TSLP expression was upregulated by transfection with pcDNA3–hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF)-1α (P402A and P564A), which stably expresses HIF-1α protein. UVB-induced TSLP induction in keratinocytes was suppressed in the treatment of mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibitors or small interfering RNAs against HIF-1α. The results of chromatin immunoprecipitation assays indicate the direct involvement of HIF-1α in UVB-mediated TSLP induction. Taken together, these findings indicate that UVB exposure may increase TSLP expression through a HIF-1α-dependent mechanism via the c-JUN N-terminal kinase and extracellular signal-regulated kinase pathways in human keratinocytes. Our data showed that UVB-induced TSLP might increase secretion of the T-helper type 2–attracting chemokine (c–c motif) ligand 17 by human dendritic cells. The present study suggests an important role of HIF-1α in UVB-mediated immune response in keratinocytes.
