This study was conducted on in vitro induction of bulblets from bulb scale explants of Lilium ledebourii and Lilium × Gironde (Asiatic hybrid). Apical and basal segments of bulb scales were cut separately and cultured aseptically on MS basal medium supplemented with different concentrations of 6-benzyladenine (BA) at 0.01 and 0.1 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ and α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) at 0.01 and 0.1 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ and on a medium without plant growth regulators. The greater number and fresh weight of L. ledebourii bulb lets were obtained on medium without plant growth regulators. For Asiatic hybrid, however, the greater number and fresh weight of bulb lets (9.16 and 1.1g, respectively) increased on medium containing BA plus NAA at equal concentrations of 0.1 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹. In both species, the highest number of roots was obtained on medium containing 0.1㎎ㆍℓ?¹ NAA without BA. Basal parts of bulb were more effective than the apical sections.

Mexican lime (Citrus aurantifolia L.) is the most sensitive citrus plant to freezing. To study the effect of water stress on development of freezing tolerance of lime seedlings, changes of chlorophyll content, total soluble sugar, electrolyte leakage (EL), proline, and chlorophyll fluorescence parameters, as indicators of freezing damage were evaluated. The seedlings at the stage of 7-9 leaves were exposed to four levels of field capacity (FC) including 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% FC. Then, water stressed plants were subjected to -2, -4, -6, and -8℃ freezing temperatures for 12 hours. The results showed an increase in EL and total soluble sugar during freezing stress, whereas chlorophyll content, efficiency of photosystem II (Fv/Fm), and electron transfer rate (ETR) considerably decreased. Within the water stressed treatments, 25% FC decreased EL to 71.5% of control, while chlorophyll content, soluble sugars, Fv/Fm, and ETR were significantly increased. Therefore, as a vital indicator, 25% FC water stress could improve freezing tolerance of lime seedlings.

Background: Dermatophytosis is a common and epidemic fungal infection caused by keratinophilic fungi called dermatophytes. These fungi are transmitted from animal to animal or animal to human, and can cause some medical problems. Identifi cation of animal sources of infection was performed to prevent the familial outbreak and progressive epidemics of infection. Methods: In this study, 130 stray dogs in rural areas of meshkinshahr in Ardabil province in Iran were examined from April 2011 to November 2012, during 19 months. From 130 dogs, 110 cases had suspicious lesions to dermatophytosis, skin lesions and alopecia, in 20 cases, there were no signifi cant lesions and were apparently healthy. Skin and hair samples were examined by conventional laboratory methods such as direct examination with Lactophenol cotton blue and KOH 10%. Then they were cultured in SC and SCC and DTM and were incubated at 37° C, 30° C and 25 ° C for up to 4 weeks. Results: Of the 130 samples, two dermatophyte species including Microsporum canis (2 cases) and Trichophyton terrestre (2 cases) were isolated. Alternaria sp. was the most Common saprophytic fungi that isolated from samples and other fungal species, including Penicillium (18. 2%), Aspergillus (9. 5%), Cladosporium (7. 1%), Chrysosporium (7. 1%), Stachybotrys (6. 3%), Fusarium (4. 7%), Acremonium (3. 1%), Scopulariopsis (2. 4%), Ulocladium (2. 4%), Paecilomyces (1. 6%), Chaetomium (0. 8%) and Nattrassia (0. 8%) were isolated. Conclusions: According to low prevalence of dermatophytic species among fungi that isolated from dogs with lesions and without lesions (normal), it can be concluded that the dogs in rural areas of Meshkinshahr are not source of infection and don`t have any role in the epidemiology of dermatophytosis.

The high level of lithium storage in synthetic porous carbons has necessitated the development of accurate models for estimating the specifc capacity of carbon-based lithium-ion battery (LIB) anodes. To date, various models have been developed to estimate the storage capacity of lithium in carbonaceous materials. However, these models are complex and do not take into account the efect of porosity in their estimations. In this paper, a novel model is proposed to predict the specifc capacity of porous carbon LIB anodes. For this purpose, a new factor is introduced, which is called normalized surface area. Considering this factor, the contribution of surface lithium storage can be added to the lithium stored in the bulk to have a better prediction. The novel model proposed in this study is able to estimate the lithium storage capacity of LIB anodes based on the porosity of porous carbons for the frst time. Benefting porosity value (specifc surface area) makes the predictions quick, facile, and sensible for the scientists and experts designing LIBs using porous carbon anodes. The predicted capacities were compared with that of the literature reported by experimental works. The remarkable consistency of the measured and predicted capacities of the LIB anodes also confrms the validity of the approach and its reliability for further predictions.

Hosein Meyghani,Reza Fotouhi Ghazvini,Yousof Hamidoghli 한국원예학회 2005 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.46 No.3
In order to produce shoots from nodal segments of salt tolerant jojoba seedlings, the established explants on MS basal medium containing benzyladenine (BA) and naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), were transferred to 1/2 MS medium supplemented with BA and NAA, kinetin and NAA, and BA, kinetin, and NAA at different concentrations. The number of shoots produced on the medium with 2 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ BA and 0.1 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ NAA (5.0 shoots per explant in average) was higher than the other treatments. Rooting of in vitro shoots was carried out on MS basal medium containing indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) and NAA at different concentrations. The highest rate of rooting occurred when either shoots were first treated with 120 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ IBA solution for 24 h followed by transferring into the MS medium without plant growth regulators or cultured on MS medium supplemented with 4 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ IBA and 2 ㎎ㆍℓ?¹ NAA. More roots were produced on MS medium containing both IBA and NAA than when they were used alone. The mixtures of peat and perlite at a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2 (v/v) were selected as the most suitable media for transplanting or adaptation of jojoba plantlets.

The attention paid by consumers to the lesser known fruits has recently been increased. These fruits have unusual flavors and qualities, and many of which are rich in antioxidant substances such as phenolics specifically anthocyanins. In the present study, biochemical and antioxidant properties of ber (Ziziphus spina-christi), azarole (Crataegus azarolus), raspberry (Rubus hyrcanus), and cornelian cherry (Cormus mas) fruits with varied pigmentation obtained from Iranian native populations were studied. Total phenolics and ascorbic acid contents varied among these populations. Raspberry had the highest total phenolics and ascorbic acid content with 454.7 and 143.2 ㎎?100 g-1 fresh weight, respectively. Consequently, it showed the highest total anthocyanin (182.6 ㎎ pelargonidin-3-glucoside equivalent 100 g-1 fresh weight) content and antioxidant activity (82.3% scavenged 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical). While the levels of total soluble solids and total acidity was highest in cornelian cherry population (12.3 and 9.9%, respectively). Antioxidant capacity was highly correlated with total anthocyanin and total phenolics content (r² = 0.78 and 0.72, respectively), whereas linear correlation between total antioxidant capacity with ascorbic acid was lower (r² = 0.43). The present study showed that the native raspberry fruit is an extremely rich source of antioxidants in comparison with ber, azarole, and cornelian cherry.

The production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plants under low temperature stress causes damage to plants. In order to evaluate the antioxidant responses of Thomson navel young trees (two years old) on different rootstocks under low temperatures, an experiment was conducted in a factorial plan based on completely randomized design. Treatments of temperatures were at seven levels including 9, 6, 3, 0, -3, -6℃, and 25 ± 2℃ (as control) and rootstocks were Sour orange,Citrange and Trifoliate orange. Results of interactive effects of factors showed that electrolyte leakage (EL), antioxidant capacity, catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) activity were significant at P < 0.01. Maximum EL was observed in Thomson navel on Sour orange at -6℃, while the highest antioxidant capacity, CAT and APX activity respectively with mean 75.06%, 0.45 and 4.350 IU・g-1 FW were observed in Thomson navel on Trifoliate orange rootstock at 0, -3 and 0℃. Low temperatures increased EL, lipid peroxidation, antioxidant capacity, superoxide dismutase (SOD), APX, CAT and peroxidase enzyme activities (P < 0.01). Due to effects of rootstock, lipid peroxidation reduced to 52 % (P < 0.01). The biochemical and physiological study of this experiment indicated that Thomson navel on Trifoliate orange rootstock, had best tolerance to freezing stress.
