Differences in the common aortic arch branching pattern arise from abnormalembryological development. Aberrant origin of the right subclavian artery is themost common of these anomalies. We report the case of a 47-year-old female withprogressive dysphagia, found to have an aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA)running posterior to the esophagus on computed tomography angiography. Shewas managed successfully with a hybrid procedure involving a right supraclavicularincision for ARSA ligation and subclavian to carotid transposition followed byendovascular closure of the ARSA origin.
Vortex induced vibration analysis of a cylinder mounted on a flexible rod
Mehdi Zamanian,Luigi Garibaldi 한국풍공학회 2019 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.29 No.6
In this study, vortex induced vibrations of a cylinder mounted on a flexible rod are analyzed. This simple configuration represents the key element of new conception bladeless wind turbine (Whitlock 2015). In this study the structure oscillations equation coupled to the wake oscillation equation for this configuration are solved using analytical perturbation method, for the first time. An analytical expression that predicts the lock-in phenomena range of wind speed is derived. The discretized equations of motion are also solved using RKF45 numerical method. The equations of motion are discretized by Galerkin method. Free vibration mode shape of the structure taking into account the discontinuity of the cross section are used as comparison function. Numerical results are compared to the analytical results, and they show a satisfying agreement. The effect of system parameters on the oscillations of structure and wake as well as on the lock-in domain are presented. Moreover, it is shown that the values of wind speed triggering the start and the stop of the lock-in phenomenon, for increasing wind speed are different from those values obtained during the reverse process, i.e., when the wind speed decreases.
Combined Effect of CO2 andTemperature on Wheat Powdery Mildew Development
Matic, Slavica,Cucu, Maria Alexandra,Garibaldi, Angelo,Gullino, Maria Lodovica The Korean Society of Plant Pathology 2018 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.34 No.4
The effect of simulated climate changes by applying different temperatures and $CO_2$ levels was investigated in the Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici/wheat pathosystem. Healthy and inoculated plants were exposed in single phytotrons to six $CO_2$+temperature combinations: (1) 450 ppm $CO_2/18-22^{\circ}C$ (ambient $CO_2$ and low temperature), (2) 850 ppm $CO_2/18-22^{\circ}C$ (elevated $CO_2$ and low temperature), (3) 450 ppm $CO_2/22-26^{\circ}C$ (ambient $CO_2$ and medium temperature), (4) 850 ppm $CO_2/22-26^{\circ}C$ (elevated $CO_2$ and medium temperature), (5) 450 ppm $CO_2/26-30^{\circ}C$ (ambient $CO_2$ and high temperature), and (6) 850 ppm $CO_2/26-30^{\circ}C$ (elevated $CO_2$ and high temperature). Powdery mildew disease index, fungal DNA quantity, plant death incidence, plant expression of pathogenesis-related (PR) genes, plant growth parameters, carbohydrate and chlorophyll content were evaluated. Both $CO_2$ and temperature, and their interaction significantly influenced powdery mildew development. The most advantageous conditions for the progress of powdery mildew on wheat were low temperature and ambient $CO_2$. High temperatures inhibited pathogen growth independent of $CO_2$ conditions, and no typical powdery mildew symptoms were observed. Elevated $CO_2$ did not stimulate powdery mildew development, but was detrimental for plant vitality. Similar abundance of three PR transcripts was found, and the level of their expression was different between six phytotron conditions. Real time PCR quantification of Bgt was in line with the disease index results, but this technique succeeded to detect the pathogen also in asymptomatic plants. Overall, future global warming scenarios may limit the development of powdery mildew on wheat in Mediterranean area, unless the pathogen will adapt to higher temperatures.

Purpose: Association between variants rs1047972 and rs8173 of the AURKA gene in healthy women and breast cancer (BC) in a Mexican population. Methods: Genomic DNA samples from 409 healthy women and 572 patients with BC were analyzed for variants rs1047972 and rs8173 of the AURKA gene by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Results: TT genotype (odds ratio [OR], 2.5; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.22–5.11; p = 0.0015) and the T allele (OR, 1.16; 95% CI, 1.23–2.12; p = 0.0007) of the rs1047972 variant were associated as risk susceptibility for BC relative to the control group. Contrarily, the GG genotype (OR, 0.64; 95% CI, 0.43–0.94; p = 0.029) was associated as a protective factor of susceptibility of BC of the variant rs8173 of the AURKA gene. Differences were observed in the patients with BC who were carriers of the CT genotype of the rs1047972 variant with overweight, obesity, estrogen receptor-positive plus obesity, Ki-67 (≥ 20%) plus history familial positive of cancer; and for variant rs8173 the BC patients who were CG carriers and presented chemotherapy gastric toxicity, hormonal receptor positive plus chemotherapy gastric toxicity, and menopause status plus chemotherapy gastric toxicity (p < 0.05). Two common haplotypes were identified in the study groups: CG and TC genotypes, were associated as a protective and risk factor, respectively (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Variants rs1047972 and rs8173 of the AURKA gene and the TC haplotype were associated as risk susceptibility factors for BC in this population.
