Juan Manuel Montes,Francisco J. de la Viña,Íñigo Agote,Thomas Schubert,Francisco G. Cuevas,Yadir Torres,José María Gallardo,Jesús Cintas 대한금속·재료학회 2021 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.27 No.2
The simulation of the electrical resistance sintering (ERS) of hardmetal powders has been studied. The ERS process canproduce a quick consolidation of electrical conductive powders by the simultaneous application of pressure and electricalcurrent. A model of the process has been developed, integrating three actions, namely, thermal, mechanical and electrical, and taking into account the nature of both the powders and the die where powders are placed. The model has been implementedin COMSOL Multiphysics, a finite element commercial program. This paper deals with the model fundamentals andhardmetal particular aspects, such as modelling properties of mixed powders and its thermal behaviour. Other parameters inthe model have been tuned to optimally fit the initial experimental data. To check simulation results, measurable parametershave been monitored during experimental tests with WC–6 wt% Co. Once the model was completed and put to work, resultsare discussed.

Central venous disease (CVD) is a serious complication in hemodialysis patients. Neurological manifestations are rare. We describe a female with end-stage renal disease with throbbing headache accompanied by paresthesia, weakness, and abnormal posture of her right hand during dialysis sessions. Motor symptoms completely resolved after each dialysis session, although the headaches persisted for several hours. No neurological deficit was evidenced on physical examination. Digital subtraction angiography identified an incomplete thrombosis of the left brachiocephalic vein with retrograde flow in the internal jugular vein, sigmoid sinus, and transverse sinus on the left side. This case illustrates that cerebral venous congestion due to CVD can produce neurological symptoms. Furthermore, we systematically review the literature to identify the characteristics of the cases described so far. This allows clinicians to know the entity and have a high index of suspicion in a hemodialysis patient who develops neurological symptoms.
In search of “Muda” through the TKJ Diagram. An analysis and Classification
( Manuel F. Suarez-barraza(phd) ),( Francisco G. Rodriguez-gonzalez(phd Candidate) ) 한국품질경영학회 2015 한국품질경영학회 학술대회 Vol.2015 No.2
Purpose. Muda is a Japanese term literally meaning futility, uselessness, idleness, superfluity, waste, wastage or wastefulness. The term was introduced by the Japanese engineer Taiichi Ohno of Toyota Motor Corporation in the 1960s. Therefore, reducing and minimizing Muda is an effective way to increase the operational efficiency and productivity of an organization’s processes. In turn, the technique known as the affinity or TKJ diagram represents a practical way of sorting data or ideas into groups classified by common patterns; it can be regarded as one of the new seven tools of quality. The purpose of this paper is to discover Muda by applying the affinity or TKJ diagram in Mexican organizations. Design/methodology/approach. An exploratory qualitative study was conducted. Using theoretical sampling, we identified and analyzed data from a kaizen training course. Each course workshop was organized by the consulting firm “Mi Empresa” and given to employees of various organizations in various sectors over three years from January 2012 to January 2015. In total, 36 KJ diagrams were obtained from 12 course workshops. Findings. The research provided the first evidence of Muda in Mexican organizations. The Muda of Ohno’s classification was confirmed, but new common patterns of Muda in 21st century organizations also arose. Furthermore, the TKJ diagram proved to be an effective tool of quality to detect it. Research limitations. This paper has the same limitations as all other qualitative research, including analysis subjectivity and questionable generalization of findings. It is also important to highlight that the 36 KJ diagrams yielded 1,026 Muda, a seemingly abundant figure. However, it is a small sample for the number of companies and processes to be found in Mexico. Practical implications (if possible). This paper may prove to be valuable for practitioners and managers involved in the operations and continuous improvement fields. Getting to know Muda in organizations is of great importance for continuously improving organizational processes. This classification will allow greater insight and easier detection. Originality/value. The study contributes to the limited existing literature on total quality management, lean thinking and kaizen and subsequently disseminates this information in order to provide impetus, guidance and support towards improving the quality of organizational processes.
Usefulness of Pharmacogenetic Analysis in Psychiatric Clinical Practice: A Case Report
Manuel A. Franco-Martin,Francisco Sans,Belen García-Berrocal,Cristina Blanco,Carlos Llanes-Alvarez,María Isidoro-García 대한정신약물학회 2018 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.16 No.3
There are many factors involved in the effectiveness and efficiency of psychiatric drug treatment. One of them is psychotropic drug metabolism, which takes place mostly in the liver through the P450 enzyme system. However, there are genotypic variants of this system’s enzymes that can directly affect both the efficacy and the onset of side effects of a given therapeutic regimen. These genotypic changes could partly explain the lack of efficacy of treatment in certain patients. We report the case of a patient diagnosed with bipolar type I disorder that presented multiple and frequent manic episodes in which the efficacy and tolerability of several pharmacological regimens with mood stabilizers and antipsychotics was scarce. The choice of medical treatment should be based on its efficacy and side effect profile. This decision can be made more accurately using the information provided by pharmacogenetic analysis. This case illustrates the importance of pharmacogenetic studies in clinical practice. The results of pharmacogenetic analysis helped to decide on a better treatment plan to achieve clinical improvement and reduce drug-induced adverse effects.

This research aimed to analyse the influence of presentation means in assessing different household product characteristics and to study the influence of physical contact with the product on that assessment. To this end, the presentation of an armchair in four different means was prepared: two offering the chance to touch the product (real setting and virtual reality with passive haptics) and two not offering the physical interaction possibility (virtual reality and 3D interactive image on a screen). The product was assessed by 128 volunteers (74 men, 54 women) on a semantic scale with 12 bipolar pairs. The results revealed that the presentation means did not influence the overall product assessment, but affected the assessment of 3 of 12 features (weight, size, and aesthetics), where coming into physical contact with the product impacted the assessment of these features. Finally, similar assessments of the product were obtained in both means of visual-only presentation.

This paper shows an optimal design for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings based on a criterion of minimum cost. The classical design method for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings is: First, a dimension is proposed that should comply with the allowable stresses (Minimum stress should be equal or greater than zero, and maximum stress must be equal or less than the allowable capacity withstand by the soil); subsequently, the effective depth is obtained due to the maximum moment and this effective depth is checked against the bending shear and the punching shear until, it complies with these conditions, and then the steel reinforcement is obtained, but this is not guaranteed that obtained cost is a minimum cost. A numerical experimentation shows the model capability to estimate the minimum cost design of the materials used for a rectangular combined footing that supports two columns under an axial load and moments in two directions at each column in accordance to the building code requirements for structural concrete and commentary (ACI 318S-14). Numerical experimentation is developed by modifying the values of the rectangular combined footing to from "d" (Effective depth), "b" (Short dimension), "a" (Greater dimension), "${\rho}_{P1}$" (Ratio of reinforcement steel under column 1), "${\rho}_{P2}$" (Ratio of reinforcement steel under column 2), "${\rho}_{yLB}$" (Ratio of longitudinal reinforcement steel in the bottom), "${\rho}_{yLT}$" (Ratio of longitudinal reinforcement steel at the top). Results show that the optimal design is more economical and more precise with respect to the classical design. Therefore, the optimal design presented in this paper should be used to obtain the minimum cost design for reinforced concrete rectangular combined footings.
