Low velocity impact test is conducted on hybrid fiber honeycomb core sandwich panels filled with differentenergy absorbing materials such as Rohacell, wheat husk and polyurethane foam (PUF) using an instrumented drop-weightimpact testing machine as per ASTM D3763-93 standard. Low velocity impact characteristics such as peak load, absorbedenergy and damage mechanisms of the sandwich panels are investigated at 17.16 J, 25.75 J, 34.33 J and 42.91 J energy levelsby varying the height of the dropping weight. Image processing technique is performed to calculate the impact damage areaof the specimens using MATLAB 2016 A. To observe the damage and failure mode in the failed specimen, opticalmicroscopic observation method is used. As increasing the impact energy, fiber fracture at face sheets, core fractures, delamination between hybrid fabric-epoxy layers and indentations failures are perceived by the visual inspection. Accordingto the obtained results, the low velocity properties such as energy absorption capacity, load at initial damage are significantlyimproved and impact damage area is decreased considerably by the PUF filled core sandwich panels. Thus, this analysis putsforward that PUF filled honeycomb core sandwich panel may be a preferable material in the field of composites to overcomedelamination and impact damages and to reduce the weight especially for the applications of advanced aerospace structures.

The translation of Sodom; or, the Quintessence of Debauchery, a play written in the libertine 1670s, and long attributed to the poet, dramatist and satirist John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, raises several problems. The translator will first need to reconsider the definition of the obscene in the context of Restoration libertinism and satire. Secondly, a literariness of the obscene leading to a possible approach for reading and translation will have to be envisaged. Is this literariness present in the aesthetic distance of this literature of the indecent or in the burlesque and satirical dimension of this “hilarotragedy”? Is the translator consequently exempt from any velleity of moral correctness that might have relieved him? One also has to take into account the receptivity of both the source text and the translated text: its inexpressibility, just like its so-called untranslatability, depends on the quality of its reception by the public. Finally, translating the obscene today requires an ethical choice by the translator, not a moral position about the values vehicled by the text, but a sense of responsibility both as one who lives in a certain editorial market economy and within the more cultural dimension for rehabilitating an author.
Add/drop filter for CWDM systems using side-coupled long-period fiber gratings
2005 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.9 No.4
We demonstrate a simple and effective wavelength-tunable add/drop filter suitable for coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) systems. The filter consists of two fibers in contact side by side, with identical long-period fiber gratings (LPG) in each fiber. The LPG couples the power in the fundamental core mode to one of the cladding modes, which is then coupled to the same order cladding mode in the other fiber through evanescent-field coupling between two fibers. Finally, the cladding mode in the second fiber is coupled to its core mode with the help of the other LPG. With an optimal longitudinal offset distance of 10 cm, coupling efficiency as high as -1.68 dB and side lobes smaller than -24 dB were experimentally obtained. The experimental results agreed well with the theoretical ones. The operating wavelength of the proposed add/drop filter was tunable by varying the temperature. The temperature sensitivity was measured to be -0.43 nm/˚C.
