        Dietary encapsulated Bifidobacterium animalis and Agave fructans improve growth performance, health parameters, and immune response in broiler chickens

        Objective: The present study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with Bifidobacterium animalis, Agave fructans, and symbiotic of both encapsulated on growth performance, feed efficiency, blood parameters, and immune status in broiler chickens, and to compare these with diets including antibiotic growth promoters and without additives.Methods: A comparative experimental study was carried out with 135 male Ross 308 broiler chickens. Each trial was divided into 5 equal groups. Control group (CON) received a standard diet without growth promoter; GPA, a standard diet with colistin sulfate and zinc bacitracin (0.25 g/kg of feed); PRE, a standard diet with 1% Agave fructans; PRO, a standard diet with Bifidobacterium animalis (11.14±0.70 log CFU/g); SYM, a standard diet with B. animalis and Agave fructans.Results: A significant decrease in food consumption was found for the GPA, PRE, and SYM, compared to the CON group. The results show a better feed conversion index in PRE and GPA with respect to the CON group with the highest conversion index. Interestingly, the weight of the gastrointestinal tract shows a statistically significant difference between GPA and PRE groups. Moreover, the length of the gastrointestinal tract of the GPA group was less than the PRE group. In the total leukocyte count, there was a statistically significant increase in the GPA group compared to the CON, PRE, and PRO groups, and the heterophiles-lymphocytes index was lower in PRO. Regarding the cytokines, interleukin 10 (IL-10) decreased in PRO compared to CON and PRE, while IL-1β increased in the SYM group.Conclusion: Alternative treatments were shown to achieve similar productive results as growth-promoting antibiotics and showed improvement over diet without additives; however, they have immunomodulatory properties and improved the development of the gastrointestinal tract compared to the treatment of growth-promoting antibiotics.         Effect of dopants on the structure of titanium oxide used as a photocatalyst for the removal of emergent contaminants

        Photocatalysts composed of titanium dioxide modified with B, F, N and P have been synthesized, characterized and applied to the degradation of caffeine, diclofenac, ibuprofen and salicylic acid. The modified TiO2 samples were prepared by the sol–gel technique starting from titanium(IV) isopropoxide and using H3BO3, NH4F, N(C2H5OH)3 and H3PO4 as precursors of the modifiers, with the content varying between 0 and 5 wt%. Structural characterization was based on nitrogen physisorption at 196 C, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), simultaneous thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG/ DTA) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The structural properties of the modified TiO2 solids were significantly different depending on the nature and amount of modifiers and the calcination temperature. TiO2 in the anatase phase was obtained in all cases and was stable upon calcination at 400 C. The photocatalytic degradation of caffeine, diclofenac, ibuprofen and salicylic acid by modified TiO2 was investigated under ultraviolet irradiation at 25 C. The photocatalytic degradation behavior followed the order: caffeine > diclofenac = ibuprofen > salicylic acid. B-doped TiO2 was the most efficient catalyst in the degradation of these selected emerging contaminants.

      • Experience of Virtual and Distance Training for Rural Teachers of Peru. Case study: Educational Robotics Course

        In Peru, according to the Census of Students (ECE) carried out by the Ministry of Education at 2016 (MINEDU), there are sustained differences between learning goals in rural and urban schools. There are more than 20 thousand educational robotic kits distributed nationwide. It requires trained teachers to develop their digital competence and integrate these resources into the teaching-learning process. In this context, a virtual course was designed and executed, showing rural teachers how to plan learning sessions that integrate Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in their pedagogical practice. The course was validated with 2500 registered teachers. In the first court, 300 did not log into the virtual classroom, 500 did not to complete the course, 1170 remained active, 534 successfully completed the course and 473 gained a certificate through the virtual platform. In the second court, there are 667-registered teachers. The conclusions of the experience indicate that it is possible to implement strategies for electronic learning aimed at rural teachers in a sustainable and cost - effective way using ICT, which spontaneously create virtual communities of collaborative learning, which support the process allowing implementation the "Knowledge Management". This experience will allow us to make recommendations for rural education policy in Peru (Fernández Morales, Iriarte Gómez, Mejía Solano, & Revuelta Domínguez, 2017).

        Corrosion activity and solubility in polar oils of three bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide/bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) amide ([NTF2]) anion-based ionic liquids

        The corrosion behaviour and solubility of three bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide1 ([NTf2]) anion-basedionic liquids: 1-dodecyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([C12MIM][NTf2]),tributylmethylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([N4441][NTf2]), and methyltrioctylammo-nium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide ([N1888][NTf2]), as a component in a mixture with different baseoils were analysed. Six polar oils suitable for use in lubrication were utilized as base oil. Solubility testswere performed by using turbidimetry, and corrosion was checked at 4 v/v% by examining the roughnessand chemical composition of the surface after 21 days. The results showed that long carbon chains in thecation improve the solubility greatly in diesters and slightly in polyolesters. Corrosion was not detected atthis concentration.

        Imaging Diagnosis of Perianal Leiomyoma: A Case Report

        A leiomyoma is a benign mesenchymal neoplasm that usually develops where smooth muscle is present. In this report, we present the case of a 75-year-old woman who sought medical attention due to pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence, and without defecatory symptoms. Both pelvic floor ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination showed a well-defined mass in the ischioanal fossa, eventually diagnosed as a perianal leiomyoma. It is considered a rare entity because of its location involving the anal sphincter and clinical features. We describe the ultrasonographic and MRI findings of this perianal leiomyoma, together with differential diagnoses and immunohistochemical characterization.

        I Can Not Wear My Sunglasses: An Unusual Sarcoidosis Presentation

        A 39-year-old Caucasian man was referred to University Hospital Salamanca from a primary care unit due to the presence of an erythematous violaceous nodule at the superior portion of his nose. Physical examination indicated that the firm, fixed erythematous violaceous nodule measured approximately 2 cm in diameter and was located in-ferior to a scar on the nasal bridge. Cutaneous involvement in sarcoidosis occurs in 25% of cases. A wide range of clinical presentations of cutaneous sarcoidosis is recognized. Skin lesions are classified as either non-specific, of which erythema nodosum is the most representative and specific, or as granulomatous, which includes maculo-papular nodules, plaques, infiltrated scars, lupus pernio, ulcerations, warty lesions and erythroderma. Scar sarcoid-osis is a type of cutaneous sarcoidosis.

        Analyses of karyotype by G-banding and high-resolution microarrays in a gender dysphoria population

        Gender Dysphoria is characterized by a marked incongruence between the cerebral sex and biological sex. To investigate the possible influence of karyotype on the etiology of Gender Dysphoria we carried out the cytogenetic analysis of karyotypes in 444 male-to-females (MtFs) and 273 female-to-males (FtMs) that attended the Gender Identity Units of Barcelona and Málaga (Spain) between 2000 and 2016. The karyotypes from 23 subjects (18 MtFs and 5 FtMs) were also analysed by Affymetrix CytoScan™ high-density (HD) arrays. Our data showed a higher incidence of cytogenetic alterations in Gender Dysphoria (2.65%) than in the general population (0.53%) (p < 0.0001). When G-banding was performed, 11 MtFs (2.48%) and 8 FtMs (2.93%) showed a cytogenetic alteration. Specifically, Klinefelter syndrome frequency was significantly higher (1.13%) (p < 0.0001), however Turner syndrome was not represented in our sample (p < 0.61). At molecular level, HD microarray analysis revealed a 17q21.31 microduplication which encompasses the gene KANSL1 (MIM612452) in 5 out of 18 MtFs and 2 out of 5 FtMs that corresponds to a copy-number variation region in chromosome 17q21.31. In conclusion, we confirm a significantly high frequency of aneuploidy, specifically Klinefelter syndrome and we identified in 7 out of 23 GD individuals the same microduplication of 572 Kb which encompasses the KANSL1 gene.

        Molecular Characterization of Polypropylene Heterophasic Copolymers by Fractionation Techniques

        Molecular microstructure, thermal properties and morphology of three polypropylene heterophasic copolymers (PHC) with similar comonomer content were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC),differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), analytical and preparative temperature rising elution fractionation (TREF),scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (13C NMR). These results indicate that there are no differences in solution and thermal properties between unfractionated copolymers. Nevertheless, a physical fractionation by crystallization of these copolymers was developed to carry out a detailed study. Four fractions at different temperatures were collected. The results showed that the PHC’s copolymers are composed by polypropylene, ethylene-propylene rubber (EPR) and, crystallisable sequences with different propylene and/or ethylene comonomers distribution. Despite the similar thermo-chemical properties shown by the raw PHC’s copolymers, the characterization of fractions displayed significant differences between them. These results suggest that the fractionation by crystallization allows the different components in which the PHC’s copolymers are based to be distinguished clearly, and obtain a more comprehensive sense of the molecular structure characterization.
