The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) phosphatase-1 (MKP-1) belongs to the MAPK cascades which are central to cell proliferation and apoptosis. The carcinogenic role of MKP-1 has been reported in many types of cancer but it has rarely been investigated in breast cancer. The present study was designed to evaluate the MKP-1 mRNA expression and its possible regulation by methylation of MKP-1 promoter in the model of several breast cancer cell lines and tissues as well as controls. Our data demonstrate MKP-1mRNA expression significantly decreased in five breast cancer cell lines compared to breast controls (P <0.01). Using the methylation-specific PCR (MSP) analysis,the unmethylated reaction (U) is dominant in both normal cell lines and benign breast tumors (100% vs. 86.2%), whereas the methylated reaction (M) is dominant in both breast cancer cell lines and invasive breast tumors (100% vs. 57.2%). In terms of methylation ratio (M/M+U), methylation level in MKP-1 promoter is significantly higher in the invasive breast tumor tissues (n = 152) than in benign breast tumor tissues (n = 29)(P < 0.0001). Assessing the methylation ratio of the promoter of MKP-1 gene to diagnose the breast malignancy (invasive vs. benign), the area under the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.809(95% CI: 0.711-0.906, P < 0.001). The best performance for this prediction has a sensitivity of 76.32% and a specificity of 82.76% at the cutoff value of 0.38. Taken together, we firstly demonstrated that the promoter methylation of MKP-1 gene is a potential breast cancer biomarker for breast malignancy.
Biosynthesized Au/TiO2@SBA-15 catalysts for selective oxidation of cyclohexane with O2

A variety of TiO2@SBA-15 supporters with various TiO2 loadings were synthesized using a facile sol-gel method. Gold (Au)-based catalysts were prepared with an environmentally benign and economical bioreduction method via Cacumen Platycladi (CP) leaf extract and immobilized on various TiO2@SBA-15 supporters with different TiO2 loadings. The as-prepared biosynthesized Au catalysts were applied in the liquid-phase cyclohexane oxidation. The results showed that the Au nanoparticles were well-dispersed on TiO2@SBA-15, and the Au existed as Au0. These biosynthesized Au catalysts are promising for cyclohexane oxidation, achieving a turnover frequency up to 3,426 h1 with a 14.1% cyclohexane conversion rate.
On knot placement for penalized spline regression

This paper studies the problem of knot placement in penalized regression spline fitting. Given a pre-specified number of knots, most existing knot placement methods allocate the knots in an equally spaced fashion. This paper proposes a simple knot placement scheme for improving such “equally spaced methods”. This new scheme first identifies locations of local extrema in the target function, and then it places additional knots in such places. The rationale behind this is that quite often such local extrema coincide with the critical locations for placing knots. The proposed scheme is shown to be superior in a simulation study.
Online health estimation strategy with transfer learning for operating lithium‑ion batteries

Complex power supply operation conditions complicate the degradation process of lithium batteries, which makes the charge–discharge cycle incomplete and the maximum available capacity not easily accessible. Besides, data-driven methods suffer from limited adaptation and possible overfi tting. This paper proposes an online health estimation strategy with transfer learning for estimating the state of health (SOH) of batteries under varying charge–discharge depths and current rates. It aims to alleviate the diffi culty in estimating SOH for operating batteries, and broaden the application range of the training model. The core of this strategy is a two-domain transfer CNN-LSTM model that estimates targets by transferring the battery degradation trends of multiple constant conditions. First, health indicators (HIs) with relatively high correlations and wide application ranges are extracted from the voltage and current data of the daily charge process. Then HI-based source domain selection criteria are designed. Since the battery experiences full and incomplete-discharged cases leading to various aging rates, a two-domain transfer CNN-LSTM model is designed. Each subnet includes a CNN and an LSTM to accomplish feature adaptation and time series forecasting. The weights of the sub-nets are updated online to track the drift of the time series covariates. Finally, the proposed strategy is verifi ed on target batteries with varying cut-off voltages and currents, which demonstrates notable accuracy and reliability.
Development of a Molecular Marker for Fruiting Body Pattern in Auricularia auricula-judae

The fruiting body pattern is an important agronomic trait of the edible fungus Auricularia auricula-judae, and an important breeding target. There are two types of fruiting body pattern: the cluster type and the chrysanthemum type. We identified the fruiting body pattern of 26 test strains, and then constructed two different near-isogenic pools. Then, we developed sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) molecular markers associated with the fruiting body pattern based on sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers. Ten different bands (189-522 bp) were amplified using 153 pairs of SRAP primers. The SCAR marker “SCL-18” consisted of a single 522-bp band amplified from the cluster-type strains, but not the chrysanthemum strains. This SCAR marker was closely associated with the cluster- type fruiting body trait of A. auricula-judae. These results lay the foundation for further research to locate and clone genes controlling the fruiting body pattern of A. auricula-judae.

From the perspective of philosophical practice, Classified Conversations of Master Zhu is composed of three basic elements: the thread of discourse, context and practice. Thread of discourse means gathering both sides into the same dialogue context, which provides a relatively “fair” communication status and also the theme and direction for the entire practice as well. In terms of context, the differences between two parties in a conversation will temporarily dissolve. Both parties can fully express their own opinions so as to achieve the goal during the conversation, which has provided reassurance and a road to the success of the whole philosophical practice. Practice, embodying in the whole discourse, makes conversation not merely a rational sermon or the cause of one of the interlocutors, but also a performance of a clear practical character and realistic solicitudes, as well as a fully reflection of the theory values and practical significance of Chinese traditional philosophy.

With their simple structure, good characteristics, small size, low weight, high starting torque, and high power density, permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are widely used in industry and national projects. However, accurate PMSM d–q-axis inductance values cannot be obtained after dynamic decoupling of the d–q-axis voltages of a PMSM under vector control. To tackle this challenge, this paper proposes a two-line-same-phase AC standstill measurement (TLSP-ACSM) method. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, both the motor synthetic magnetomotive force and theoretical error of inductance measurement based on the TLSP-ACSM method are analyzed, followed by experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of TLSP-ACSM. By comparing the proposed method with another measurement method, it is demonstrated that the relative error of the d-axis and q-axis inductance measurements is reduced by about 23% and 21%, respectively. When considering magnetic flux leakage, TLSP-ACSM shows better measurement precision and tracking performance.
