      • Morphological Characters and Total Phenolic Contents(TPC) of Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) Germplasm

        Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is known as an oil seed crop originated from southern Asia. Chemical components of safflower have been reported such as phenolic acids, flavonoids, quinochalcones and others. It is vastly utilized in various medical conditions and used for flavoring and coloring purpose. Thus, we examined the amount of total phenolic contents (TPC) and investigated the relation between morphological characters with the TPC in 210 accessions from RDA genebank, Korea. TPC was estimated with Folin-Ciocalteu colorimetric assay. Variations in TPC were evaluated from 21.9 to 147 ㎍ GAE/mg dried extract (DE). Correlation showed there were significant inverse correlations of TPC with leaf width and length while others were not related with TPC. The red color of flower had the lowest range of TPC. The maximum and minimum of TPC was all in the yellow color of flower. Biplot analysis revealed that the positive contributors of Dim1 were leaf width, length, flowering and weight of 100 seeds. Meanwhile, Dim2 was mostly contributed by ripening stage. Accessions K185021 containing high TPC could be used for further research in developing new varieties and functional products.

      • Pacemaker-neuron–dependent disturbance of the molecular clockwork by a <i>Drosophila</i> CLOCK mutant homologous to the mouse <i>Clock</i> mutation

        <P>Circadian clocks are composed of transcriptional/ translational feedback loops (TTFLs) at the cellular level. In Drosophila TTFLs, the transcription factor dCLOCK (dCLK)/CYCLE (CYC) activates clock target gene expression, which is repressed by the physical interaction with PERIOD (PER). Here, we show that amino acids (AA) 657-707 of dCLK, a region that is homologous to the mouse Clock exon 19-encoded region, is crucial for PER binding and E-box-dependent transactivation in S2 cells. Consistently, in transgenic flies expressing dCLK with an AA657-707 deletion in the Clock (Clk(out)) genetic background (p{dClk-Delta}; Clk(out)), oscillation of core clock genes' mRNAs displayed diminished amplitude compared with control flies, and the highly abundant dCLK Delta 657-707 showed significantly decreased binding to PER. Behaviorally, the p{dClk-Delta};Clk(out) flies exhibited arrhythmic locomotor behavior in the photic entrainment condition but showed anticipatory activities of temperature transition and improved free-running rhythms in the temperature entrainment condition. Surprisingly, p{dClk-Delta};Clk(out) flies showed pacemakerneuron-dependent alterations in molecular rhythms; the abundance of dCLK target clock proteins was reduced in ventral lateral neurons (LN(v)s) but not in dorsal neurons (DNs) in both entrainment conditions. In p{dClk-Delta};Clk(out) flies, however, strong but delayed molecular oscillations in temperature cycle-sensitive pacemaker neurons, such as DN(1)s and DN(2)s, were correlated with delayed anticipatory activities of temperature transition. Taken together, our study reveals that the LNv molecular clockwork is more sensitive than the clockwork of DNs to dysregulation of dCLK by AA657-707 deletion. Therefore, we propose that the dCLK/CYC-controlled TTFL operates differently in subsets of pacemaker neurons, which may contribute to their specific functions.</P>

      • Performance of Selected Clothing Systems under Subzero Conditions: Determination of Performance by a Human-Clothing-Environment Simulator

        <P>It is necessary to measure the performance of outdoor/protective clothing materials in terms of comfort properties under dynamic enduse conditions. A vertical type human-clothing-environment simulator was used to evaluate the thermal comfort performance of layered textile materials under dynamic conditions. Fabric layers of PET knit/fleece and PET knit/micro-porous membrane (MPM), which simulate clothing systems, were compared at a transient state from 25 to -10°C. PVC film was used to compare the effects of permeability. Relative humidity and vapor pressure data confirmed condensation on the fabric layers of the clothing systems during the transient period of temperature decrease. At the subzero condition, fabrics with low air permeability kept the water molecules on their inner surface, which deteriorates the permeability of the membranes. The vapor pressure of the air layer next to the environment was maintained at a relatively high level, which will reduce the driving force for moisture transport from sweating skin to the environment.</P>

      • 국내 에코백의 디자인 분석 - 에코백 브랜드를 중심으로

        The purpose of this study is to search the trends of echo-friendly bags design focused on domestic brands. This study was performed by literature reviews of previous studies and associated book, and domestic echo-friendly bag brands were selected with internet data and articles. A total of 537 products from 19 brands were analyzed. Echo-friendly bag design was classified by type, color, materials, fashion motives, brand characteristics, and logo. As a results of the analysis, the most common types were basic shoulder bags, which were practical with both hands free and easily matched with everyday clothes. In materials, fabrics were usual, but diverse materials were seen as an individual style of fashion nowadays. The achromatic colors were the most common and among the chromatic colors, red, yellow, navy were appeared in order. It means simple achromatic designs were numerous and designs using primary colors were common at the same time. There were lots of geometric patterns, letters, stylized patterns, especially in geometric pattern, stripe, dots, checks were numerous. The conclusion of this study were as follows: First, achromatic solid products were main in domestic echo-friendly bags and simple, clean, and practical designs were released more nowadays. Second, some brands showed designs that gives points with strong color and fancy pattern trying to diversify. Third, designers tried to pursuit various composition like set products of shoulder and clutch bags. If they increase design diversification and marketability to the latent values of echo-friendly bag consistently, it can contribute to accelerate the boom of echo designs.

      • 퍼머넌트 플리츠가공이 반응성 염료로 염색된 모직물의 색변화에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the color changes of reactive dyed wool fabrics after imparting permanent pleats with si-ro-set finish. Monoethanolamine sulfite (MEAS) was used as a reducing agent. Color changes were determined by measuring CIELAB values after treating the dyed fabrics with various setting of temperatures, length of time and concentrations of MEAS. The concentrations of MEAS, temperature and treatment time affected the △E values as follows: As the concentration of MEAS increased, △E decreased. As temperature and time increased, color difference increased. Therefore, it was concluded that low temperatures and short treatment time with higher concentrations of MEAS minimizes the color difference effects on reactive dyed wool fabrics.

        재난 연구에 대한 연구자 및 기관생명윤리위원회의 윤리적 고려사항

        코로나바이러스감염증-19(coronavirus disease 2019, 이하 ‘코로나19’)는 전 세계적으로 공중보건 비상사태를 초래하였고, 정치, 경제, 의료, 복지, 교육, 고용 등 사회 전반에 걸쳐 매우 광범위하게 영향을 미치고 있다. 코로나19로 인해 제기되고 있는 다양한 사회적 문제들은 서로 맞물려 연쇄작용을 일으키며 인간의 삶의 방식 뿐만 아니라 인간을 둘러싸고 있는 여러 사회적 환경에 급진적 변화를 초래하고 있다. 그러므로 코로나19와 같은 재난으로 인한 영향과 변화에 적절하게 대응하기 위한 방안을 효과적으로 모색하기 위해서는 재난 관련 각종 관련 자료를 통한 조사 외에도 재난을 경험했거나 경험하고 있는 사람을 비롯한 각계각층의 사람을 대상으로 설문조사나 인터뷰를 통해 실태를 파악하고 의견을 수렴하기 위한 연구가 다양하면서도 체계적으로 이루어질 필요가 있다. 그런데 코로나19와 같은 재난을 주제로 하여 인간을 대상으로 수행되는 연구(이하 ‘재난 연구’)의 경우, 재난을 경험했거나 경험하고 있는 사람이 연구대상자에 포함될 수밖에 없다. 따라서 재난 연구가 수행되는 과정에서 제기되는 윤리적 문제들은 지금까지 다양한 주제로 수행된 사회행동과학연구(Social Behavioral Research)로서의 인간대상연구(human subject research)가 수행되는 과정에서 제기되어온 윤리적 문제들과 다를 수 있다. 그런데도 현재 국내에는 재난 연구를 수행하는 연구자와 이러한 연구를 심의하여 승인 여부를 결정하는 기관생명윤리위원회(Institutional Review Board)가 참고할 수 있는 윤리 가이드라인이 거의 부재한 실정이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 국외에서 발표된 생명윤리 및 연구윤리 관련 보편적인 국제기준을 담은 문서들에서 재난 연구를 수행하는 데 고려해야 할 윤리적 사항으로 제시한 바를 조사·분석하였다. 이를 토대로 재난 연구 수행 시 연구의 과학적 사회적 측면에서의 타당성과 가치가 연구대상자 보호와 균형을 이룰 수 있도록 하기 위해 연구자와 기관생명윤리위원회가 고려해야 할 사항으로 1) 재난 연구와 재난 구호활동의 명확한 구분, 2) 연구로 인해 발생 가능한 위험에 대한 면밀한 평가, 3) 연구 참여 관련 취약성에 대한 고려를 제시하였다. Coronavirus disease 2019(hereinafter "COVID-19") has caused a public health emergency worldwide and has had a very wide impact on society, including politics, economy, medical care, welfare, education and employment. The various social challenges precipitated by COVID-19 are causing chain reactions in conjunction with each other, resulting in radical changes to the social environments surrounding humans as well as how they live. Therefore, to effectively find ways to respond appropriately to the effects and changes of disasters such as COVID-19, comprehensive interdisciplinary research needs to be conducted to identify or interview people who have experienced disasters. However, in the case of a study on humans under the theme of disasters such as COVID-19, people who have experienced or are currently experiencing disasters are bound to be included in the study. Therefore, ethical issues raised in the course of disaster research may differ from those encountered in the course of human subjects research as related to social behavioral research on a variety of topics. Nevertheless, there are currently few guidelines on ethics available in Korea for the researcher conducting disaster research and the Institutional Review Board reviewing disaster research. In this paper, to determine the ethical points to be considered when conducting disaster research, we investigated and analyzed documents containing universal international standards related to bioethics and research ethics published abroad. Based on this, the researcher and Institutional Review Board should 1) ensure a clear distinction between disaster research and disaster relief activity, 2) conduct a close assessment of possible risks from research, and 3) identify vulnerabilities related to research participation.
