This work aimed to develop a solid-phase extraction method using low-cost activated carbon producedfrom waste and modified with 4-(2-thiazolylazo) resorcinol for Cd(II), Pb(II), and Cu(II). The resultsshowed that quantitative recovery of analytes was obtained at pH 6 with 3 Mnitric acid as the eluent anda sample volume up to 1000 mL. The method was validated using certified reference material andaddition-recovery tests. The limits of detection (LODs) for Pb(II), Cd(II), and Cu(II) were 2.03 mg L-1,0.15 mg L-1, and 0.19 mg L-1, respectively. The procedure was applied for determination of analytes infood samples.
A Case of Adult-Onset Still’s Disease Complicated with Diffuse Alveolar Hemorrhage

Adult-onset Still’s disease (AOSD) is an inflammatory disease that presents with a variety of clinical symptoms. Pulmonary involvement is well-known in AOSD and is seen in up to 53% of AOSD cases, with the most common pulmonary diseases being pleural effusion and transient pulmonary infiltrates. We present the first case of chronic AOSD complicated with diffuse alveolar hemorrhage during the acute flare of the disease.

Etoricoxib features antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties concomitantly, suggesting that it may be beneficial in testicular ischemia reperfusion (I/R) damage. Our aim is to investigate the effects of etoricoxib on testicular I/R damage induced with torsion-detorsion (TD). The etoricoxib + torsion-detorsion (ETD) groups of animals were given etoricoxib in 50 and 100 mg/kg of body weight (ETD-50 and ETD-100), while the testes torsion-detorsion (TTD) and sham operation rat group (SOG) animals were given single oral doses of distilled water as a solvent. TTD, ETD-50 and ETD-100 groups were subjected to $720^{\circ}$ degrees torsion for four hours, and detorsion for four hours. The SOG group was not subjected to this procedure. Biochemical, gene expression and histopathological analyses were carried out on the testicular tissues. The levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), myeloperoxidase (MPO), interleukin-1 beta ($IL-1{\beta}$) and tumor necrosis factor alpha ($TNF-{\alpha}$) were significantly higher, and the levels of total glutathione (tGSH) and glutathione reductase (GSHRd) were significantly lower in the TTD group, compared to the ETD-50, ETD-100 and SOG groups. Etoricoxib at a dose of 100 mg/kg better prevented I/R damage than the 50 mg/kg dose. Etoricoxib may be useful in clinical practice in the reduction of I/R damage on testes caused by torsion-detorsion.
Use of vacuum-assisted closure in massive puerperal genital hematoma

Puerperal genital hematomas are rare but life-threatening complications of obstetric emergencies. A pregnant patient(39 weeks) underwent a mediolateral episiotomy during a vaginal delivery. An afterbirth hematoma (approximately20 cm in diameter) was evacuated, but the use of a vacuum-assisted wound closure system was applied after thesutures opened on the 7th postoperative day. On the 10th day of the vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) application, thewound was completely closed. VAC is an alternative treatment modality that can drain an infection and increase theproportion of granulation tissue in humid and irregular surfaces such as the perineum.

Background The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of remote ischemic conditioning on ischemia-reperfusion injury in rat muscle flaps histopathologically and biochemically. Methods Thirty albino rats were divided into 5 groups. No procedure was performed in the rats in group 1, and only blood samples were taken. A gracilis muscle flap was elevated in all the other groups. Microclamps were applied to the vascular pedicle for 4 hours in order to achieve tissue ischemia. In group 2, no additional procedure was performed. In groups 3, 4, and 5, the right hind limb was used and 3 cycles of ischemia-reperfusion for 5 minutes each (total, 30 minutes) was applied with a latex tourniquet (remote ischemic conditioning). In group 3, this procedure was performed before flap elevation (remote ischemic preconditoning). In group 4, the procedure was performed 4 hours after flap ischemia (remote ischemic postconditioning). In group 5, the procedure was performed after the flap was elevated, during the muscle flap ischemia episode (remote ischemic perconditioning). Results The histopathological damage score in all remote conditioning ischemia groups was lower than in the ischemic-reperfusion group. The lowest histopathological damage score was observed in group 5 (remote ischemic perconditioning). Conclusions The nitric oxide levels were higher in the blood samples obtained from the remote ischemic perconditioning group. This study showed the effectiveness of remote ischemic conditioning procedures and compared their usefulness for preventing ischemiareperfusion injury in muscle flaps.
