A 1V 200kS/s 10-bit Successive Approximation ADC for a Sensor Interface

<P>A 200kS/s 10-bit successive approximation (SA) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with a rail-to-rail input signal is proposed for acquiring biosignals such as EEG and MEG signals. A split-capacitor-based digital-to-analog converter (SC-DAC) is used to reduce the power consumption and chip area. The SC-DAC's linearity is improved by using dummy capacitors and a small bootstrapped analog switch with a constant on-resistance, without increasing its area. A time-domain comparator with a replica circuit for clock feed-through noise compensation is designed by using a highly differential digital architecture involving a small area. Its area is about 50% less than that of a conventional time-domain comparator. The proposed SA ADC is implemented by using a 0.18-µm 1-poly 6-metal CMOS process with a 1V supply. The measured DNL and INL are +0.44/-0.4 LSB and +0.71/-0.62 LSB, respectively. The SNDR is 55.43dB for a 99.01kHz analog input signal at a sampling rate of 200kS/s. The power consumption and core area are 5µW and 0.126mm<SUP>2</SUP>, respectively. The FoM is 47fJ/conversion-step.</P>
Two-Tier Storage DBMS for High-Performance Query Processing

This paper describes the design and implementation of a two-tier DBMS for handling massive data and providing faster response time. In the present day, the main requirements of DBMS are figured out using two aspects. The first is handling large amounts of data. And the second is providing fast response time. But in fact, Traditional DBMS cannot fulfill both the requirements. The disk-oriented DBMS can handle massive data but the response time is relatively slower than the memory-resident DBMS. On the other hand, the memory-resident DBMS can provide fast response time but they have original restrictions of database size. In this paper, to meet the requirements of handling large volumes of data and providing fast response time, a two-tier DBMS is proposed. The cold-data which does not require fast response times are managed by disk storage manager, and the hot-data which require fast response time among the large volumes of data are handled by memory storage manager as snapshots. As a result, the proposed system performs significantly better than disk-oriented DBMS with an added advantage to manage massive data at the same time.

A 40-MS/sec 10-bit pipelined analog to digital converter (ADC) with a 1.2 Vpp differential input signal is proposed. The implemented pipelined ADC consists of eight stages of 1.5 bit/stage, one stage of 2 bit/stage, a digital error correction block, band-gap reference circuit & reference driver, and clock generator. The 1.5 bit/stage consists of a sub-ADC, digital to analog (DAC), and gain stage, and the 2.0 bit/stage consists of only a 2-bit sub-ADC. A bootstrapped switch with a constant resistance is proposed to improve the linearity of the input switch. It reduces the maximum VGS variation of the conventional bootstrapped switch by 67%. The proposed bootstrapped switch is used in the first 1.5 bit/stage instead of a sample-hold amplifier (SHA). This results in the reduction of the hardware and power consumption. It also increases the input bandwidth and dynamic performance. A reference voltage for the ADC is driven by using an on-chip reference driver without an external reference. A digital error correction with a redundancy is also used to compensate for analog noise such as an input offset voltage of a comparator and a gain error of a gain stage. The proposed pipelined ADC is implemented by using a 0.18-${\mu}m$ 1- poly 5-metal CMOS process with a 1.8 V supply. The total area including a power decoupling capacitor and the power consumption are 0.95 $mm^2$ and 51.5 mW, respectively. The signal-to-noise and distortion ratio (SNDR) is 56.15 dB at the Nyquist frequency, resulting in an effective number of bits (ENOB) of 9.03 bits.

Spontaneous rupture of mature cystic teratoma occurs rarely, but may lead to a chemical peritonitis. Once rupture of mature cystic teratoma is diagnosed, immediate surgical intervention is necessary. Removal of ruptured ovarian cystic teratoma and copious lavage of abdominal cavity are usually suffi cient to prevent prolonged chemical peritonitis. We report here a rare case of spontaneously ruptured ovarian cystic teratoma diagnosed by computed tomography scan obtained before and after the rupture, and in which chemical peritonitis lasted over 2 months after surgery.
슬관절염에서 전방 십자 인대의 퇴행 변화에 대한 조직학적 연구

목적: 퇴행성 슬관절염에서 전방 십자 인대의 퇴행 변화에 대해 조직학적 양상과 정도를 알아보고 환자의 나이, 전방 십자 인대의 육안적 소견 및 슬관절의 기능적 평가를 분석하고자 한다. 대상 및 방법: 퇴행성 관절염으로 슬관절 인공 관절 전치환술을 시행한 환자 중 80예에 대해 전방 십자 인대의 조직학적 검사를 시행하였다. 퇴행 변화를 시사하는 조직학적 양상으로 점액양 변성(mucoid degeneration), 액화(liquefaction), 초자 변성(hyaline degeneration), 석회화(calcification), 균열(fissuring) 소견을 보였다. 이들 다섯가지 소견의 각각의 정도를 3등급으로 분류하고 이를 합산하여 전방 십자 인대의 퇴행 변화를 조직학적으로 등급화 하였다. 이 결과와 환자의 나이, 전방 십자 인대의 육안적 소견과 Knee Society Score를 이용한 환자의 기능적 평가와의 상관 관계를 비교하였다. 전방 십자 인대의 육안적 소견은 정상, 비정상(정상에 비해 얇아져 있거나 비후 되어 있을 때) 및 파열로 분류하였다. 결과: 전방 십자 인대의 퇴행 변화에 대한 조직학적 등급에 따른 결과는 최하 2에서 최고 10까지 다양한 분포를 보였고 이는 환자의 나이와 유의한 상관관계를 보이지 않았다(p>0.05). 전방 십자 인대의 육안적 소견상 정상인 군은 19예(23.8%)로 조직학적 등급은 평균 3.47 (2-6)이었다. 비정상인 군은 57예(71.3%)로 평균 5.95 (3-10), 파열된 군은 4예(5.0%)로 평균 9.0 (8-10)이었다. 전방 십자 인대의 육안적 소견과 조직학적 퇴행 변화와는 상관 관계가 있었고(p<0.05), Knee Societe Score를 이용한 기능적 평가와 유의한 상관 관계를 보였다(p<0.05). 결론: 전방 십자 인대의 조직학적 퇴행 변화의 정도는 나이와는 무관하고, 전방 십자 인대의 육안적 퇴행 정도는 슬관절의 기능 악화와 관계가 있는 것으로 생각된다. Purpose: To assess the histological findings of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) degeneration in an arthritic knee and its correlation with the gross appearance of the ACL, the patient s age and the functional status of the knee. Materials and Methods: Histological evaluations of the ACL were carried out on 80 patients who had total knee arthroplasty. Five types of ACL degeneration were noted; 1) mucoid degeneration, 2) liquefaction, 3) hyaline degeneration, 4) calcification, and 5) fissuring. A scoring system for the level of ACL degeneration was made. Each type of degeneration was scored and the degree of ACL degeneration was graded by summing each score. The correlation between ACL degeneration and patient's age, gross appearance, and functional evaluation of knee by Knee Society Score (KSS) was analyzed. The gross appearance of the ACL was classified as normal, abnormal (thinned or hypertrophied), and tear. Results: The scores for the histological degeneration of the ACL ranged from 2 to 10, and there was no correlation between the patient's age and the scores (p>0.05). The gross appearance of the ACL was "normal" in 19 cases, "abnormal" in 57, and "tear" in 4 with an average score of histological degeneration in 3.47 (2-6), 5.95 (3-10), and 9.0 (8-10) respectively. The score for the histological degeneration of the ACL was correlated with the gross appearance of the ACL and a functional evaluation by the KSS (p<0.05). Conclusion: The degree of ACL degeneration was not closely related to the patient s age but there was some relationship with the gross degenerative changes in the ACL and the functional loss of the knee.

The goal of this paper is to investigate structural integrity factors of RMI(reflective metal insulation) to confirm the design requirements in nuclear power plant. Currently, a glass wool insulation is using now, but it will gradually be replaced with the reflective metal insulation maded by stainless steel plates. The main function of an insulation is to minimize a heat loss of vessel and pipes in RCS(reactor coolant system). It has to maintain structural a integrity in nuclear power plant life duration. In this study, the structural integrity analysis was carried out both multi-plate and outer shell plate by using a static analysis and experimental test. First, inner multi-plate has a self support structure for being air space. Because the effect of total static weight in multi-layer plate is low, a plate collapse possibility is not high. Considering optimum thin plate pressing process, it has to pre-check the basic physical properties. Second, the outer segment thickness and stiffener shape are verified by the numerical static analysis, and sample test for both type of panel and cylindrical pipe model.
