Making Inferences About Settlements from Satellite Images Using Glowworm Swarm Optimization

Emre Avuçlu,Abdullah Elen,Humar Kahramanli Örnek 대한전기학회 2020 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.15 No.5

Optimization is the process of choosing the best one among existing possibilities under particular circumstances in a problem. There are various algorithms for optimization problems nowadays. Metaheuristic algorithms are the algorithms giving almost optimum solutions at an acceptable duration for the problems of large dimension. Heuristic optimization algorithms with general aim are evaluated in diff erent groups. Swarm intelligence-based optimization algorithms were developed through examining the behaviors and movements of living fl ocks such as birds, fi sh, cats, and bees. With these algorithms, some estimating processes are carried out successfully in all areas. In this study a new approach was presented with a novel idea, by inspiring from the behavior type of Glowworm Swarm Optimization; and an application estimating the total population, square measurement and electricity quantity that was consumed by the chosen areas in a region was developed. The developed application works as a real-time and animated display. When all calculations are fi nished, the animation ends. Estimates also examined England as an example. The diff erence between the estimated value of the actual population of England is calculated as 1.7%. In the estimates for the values of the surface area of England with an error of 1.4%, the estimated values were very close to the actual values. Some other obtained estimation results are presented in the results section

Construction of biosensor for determination of galactose with galactose oxidase immobilized on polymeric mediator contains ferrocene

        Emre Çevik,Mehmet Şenel,M. Fatih Abasıyanık 한국물리학회 2010 Current Applied Physics Vol.10 No.5

A galactose biosensor was developed by immobilizing galactose oxidase (GAox) on poly (glycidyl methacrylate-co-vinylferrocene) (poly (GMA-co-VFc)) film. The enzyme was immobilized via amine group onto polymeric mediator. The biosensor was characterized by the specific activity of the immobilized galactose oxidase, the apparent Michaelis constant , and the stability expressed by time and a number of the performed analysis. The optimized galactose biosensor exhibited a linear response range from 2 to 20 M and detection limit of 0.1 mM toward galactose. The response time of the biosensor was 5 s. The effects of the pH and the temperature of the immobilized galactose oxidase electrode were also studied.

Spontaneous Corpus Cavernosum Abscess in a Healthy Man Using Long-Term Androgenic Anabolic Steroids

Emre Tüzel 대한남성과학회 2015 The World Journal of Men's Health Vol.33 No.1

Abscess formation of the corpus cavernosum is very rare. Here, we report a case of long-term anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) abuse that is suspected to have facilitated the development of a corpus cavernosum abscess in a healthy bodybuilder. Cultures obtained from the abscess contained Staphylococcus epidermidis, a microorganism that almost exclusively affects immunocompromised patients. Therefore, prompt drainage of pus from cavernosal bodies should be the primary aim of the treatment. This case illustrates the potential danger of AAS suppressing the immune system and causing a serious infection.

Potentiometric urea biosensor based on poly(glycidylmethacrylate)-grafted iron oxide nanoparticles

        Emre Çevik,Mehmet S¸ enel,Abdülhadi Baykal 한국물리학회 2013 Current Applied Physics Vol.13 No.1

Urease enzyme was covalently attached on the poly(glycidylmethacrylate) (PGMA)-grafted iron oxide nanoparticles on Au electrode for the fabrication of urea biosensor. The telomere of poly(- glycidylmethacrylate) (PGMA) with a trimethoxysilyl terminal group was synthesized by telomerization of glycidylmethacrylate. Iron oxide nanoparticles were coated with telomere of poly(- glycidylmethacrylate) in order to obtain good enzyme immobilization platform. The telomere and nanoparticles were characterized by using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The biosensor’s potentiometric response was measured as a function of urea concentration in phosphate buffer solution (10 mM, pH 7.5) and showed a linear range of 0.25e5.0 mM urea. The produced biosensor exhibited a good response time of w8 s and was stable for about two months. The basic features (optimum pH, optimum temperature, interference and storage stability) of the enzyme electrode were determined

Flexural properties of a light-cure and a self-cure denture base materials compared to conventional alternatives

        Emre Mumcu,Altug Cilingir,Burc Gencel,Tonguc S?l?n 대한치과보철학회 2011 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.3 No.3

PURPOSE A new light curing urethane dimethacrylate and a cold curing resin with simpler and faster laboratory procedures may have even improved flexural properties. This study investigated the 3-point flexural strengths and flexural moduli of two alternate base materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cold curing resin (Weropress) and a light curing urethane dimethacrylate base material (Eclipse). Along with Eclipse and Weropress, a high impact resin (Lucitone199) and three conventional base materials (QC 20, Meliodent and Paladent 20) were tested. A 3-point bending test was used to determine the flexural strengths and flexural moduli. The mean displacement, maximum load, flexural modulus and flexural strength values and standard deviations for each group were analyzed by means of one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) (with mean difference significant at the 0.05 level). Post hoc analyses (Scheffe test) were carried out to determine the differences between the groups at a confidence level of 95%. RESULTS Flexural strength, displacement and force maximum load values of Eclipse were significantly different from other base materials. Displacement values of QC 20 were significantly different from Lucitone 199 and Weropress. CONCLUSION The flexural properties and simpler processing technique of Eclipse system presents an advantageous alternative to conventional base resins and Weropress offers another simple laboratory technique.

Poly(glycidylmethacrylate-co-vinyl ferrocene)-grafted iron oxide nanoparticles as an electron transfer mediator for amperometric phenol detection

        Emre Çevik,Mehmet S¸ enel,Abdulhadi Baykal,M. Fatih Abasıyanık 한국물리학회 2013 Current Applied Physics Vol.13 No.8

An amperometric phenol biosensor was constructed by using poly(glycidylmethacrylate-co-vinyl ferrocene) grafted iron oxide nanoparticles for detection of different phenolic compounds (catechol, aminophenol, phenol, p-cresol, pyrogallol). The poly(glycidylmethacrylate-co-vinyl ferrocene) and nanoparticles were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The copolymer grafted iron oxide nanoparticles and Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) were covalently attached on gold (Au) electrode surface. The effect of pH, temperature and characteristic features such as; reusability and storage stability were studied. The electrode showed good response time within w3 s. The electrocatalytic response showed a linear dependence on the phenolic compounds concentration ranging from 0.5 to 17.0 mM.

Quantum codes with improved minimum distance

        Emre Kolotouglu,Mustafa Sari 대한수학회 2019 대한수학회보 Vol.56 No.3

The methods for constructing quantum codes is not always sufficient by itself. Also, the constructed quantum codes as in the classical coding theory have to enjoy a quality of its parameters that play a very important role in recovering data efficiently. In a very recent study quantum construction and examples of quantum codes over a finite field of order $q$ are presented by La Garcia in \cite{Guardia}. Being inspired by La Garcia's the paper, here we extend the results over a finite field with $q^2$ elements by studying necessary and sufficient conditions for constructions quantum codes over this field. We determine a criteria for the existence of $q^2$-cyclotomic cosets containing at least three elements and present a construction method for quantum maximum-distance separable (MDS) codes. Moreover, we derive a way to construct quantum codes and show that this construction method leads to quantum codes with better parameters than the ones in \cite{Guardia}.

Preparation and Characterization of Polyethylene Glycol Functional Hydroxyapatite/Polycaprolactone Electrospun Biomembranes for Bone Tissue Engineering Applications

        Emre Yavuz,Ramazan Erdem,Ertan Küçüksayan,Esin Akarsu,Murat Akarsu 한국섬유공학회 2021 Fibers and polymers Vol.22 No.5

Surfaces of previously synthesized Hydroxyapatite particles (HAP) have been modified with polyethylene glycolfunctional silane (PEG-400Si). For the surface modification of HAP, firstly, synthesis of PEG-400Si was performed byurethane reaction of hydroxyl and isocyanate groups. Then, HAP was synthesized by sol-gel method. Afterwards, surfacemodification of HAP was realized with PEG-400Si. SEM, TEM, XRD and FTIR analyses were utilized to characterize themorphology and structural properties of the synthesized and modified particles. Results revealed that the surface of HAP wasmodified successfully and the crystal structure of HAP was not changed after modification. Electrospinning process wasconducted to obtain unmodified and modified HAP incorporated nanofibrous biomembranes and the characteristics andbiological performances of these membranes have been compared to each other. SEM analysis presented that defect-free andround shape nanofibers obtained and the fiber diameter ranged from 230±114 nm to 760±291 nm. In vitro biologicalevaluations revealed that all electrospun nanofibrous biomembranes were nontoxic and the one with PCL/PEG-400Si-HAPexhibited greatest cellular protein expression approximately 1.5 times higher than the PCL biomembrane for 24 h, 48 h and72 h.

The effect of air conditioning positions, air conditioning fluid speed, and temperature on thermal comfort in the truck cabin

Emre Turgut,Uğurcan Yardımcı 대한기계학회 2022 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.36 No.6

The effects of air conditioning parameters in the truck cabin on thermal comfort were numerically investigated using ANSYS. Air conditioner positions, fluid velocities coming out of air conditioner vents, and outlet temperatures of the fluid were determined. In the analysis, three different air conditioning positions, three different temperatures, and six different speeds were used. Predicted mean vote (PMV) and predicted percentage of dissatisfied (PPD) values were calculated according to the results obtained. The best average PMV was found in position 2 with -0.055781108, whereas the worst average PMV was found in position 3 with −1.112957448. The best average PPD value was found in position 2 with 5.12, and the worst average PPD value was found in position 3 with 31.63. In addition to PMV graphics, temperature and velocity distributions in the truck cabin are given with contour graphics. All the data obtained were evaluated together to determine the best combination.

Generalized Parallel Transport and Coordinate Transformations in f(R) Gravity

Emre Dil 한국물리학회 2016 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.69 No.12

In this paper, we study the generalized parallel transport of vectors and generalized coordinate transformations between generalized reference frames described in f(R) gravity. After constructing the generalized parallel transport relations and the generalized transformation laws in f(R) gravity, we discuss the implications of these laws and present the differences between f(R) gravity and Einstein’s general relativity. For a constant Ricci scalar case with de Sitter-like behavior for a de Sitter space-time, we find that the parallel transport is invariant under the conformal transformation from general relativity to f(R) gravity. However, for a non-de Sitter space-time, parallel transport differs by an extra field term.
