Evaluation of resistance to permethrin, cypermethrin and deltamethrin in different populations of Musca domestica (L.), collected from the Iranian dairy cattle farms

        Ahmadi Ebrahim,Khajehali Jahangir,Rameshgar Fariborz 한국응용곤충학회 2020 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.23 No.2

The house fly, Musca domestica (Linnaeus) (Diptera: Muscidae), is a major pest for human and livestock health and is also resistant to different insecticides. Herein, six M. domestica populations were collected, five of them from industrial cattle farms and the Koohrang population from a remote area as a susceptible population. The resistance/susceptibility of populations to three pyrethroids was evaluated. High levels of permethrin resistance were observed in all field populations and the resistance ratios (RRs) were estimated to vary from 52- to 129-fold. Resistant populations also exhibited resistance to other pyrethroids (cypermethrin and deltamethrin), with RRs ranging between 45- and 180-fold. According to synergistic (piperonyl butoxide, diethyl maleate and triphenyl phosphate) and enzymatic assays, resistant populations exhibited multiple resistance phenotypes. Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450s), glutathione S-transferases (GSTs), and carboxylesterases (CarEs) were found to be involved in pyrethroid resistance in Isfahan population, P450s and GSTs in Mobarake population and CarEs detoxified pyrethroids in Natanz and Alavijeh populations. As substitution of Leucine (CTT) with Phenylalanine (TTT) at position 1014 of the voltage sensitive sodium channel (VSSC) gene is the most common mutation conferring resistance to pyrethroids in M. domestica, we sequenced a partial fragment of IIS6 and L1014F mutation was detected in all resistant populations. The present study provides valuable information for early detection of pyrethroid resistance and developing resistance management strategies in the house fly populations.

The Effects of Hearing Aid Digital Noise Reduction and Directionality on Acceptable Noise Level

        Roghayeh Ahmadi,Hamid Jalilvand,Mohammad Ebrahim Mahdavi,Fatemeh Ahmadi,Ali Reza Akbarzade Baghban 대한이비인후과학회 2018 Clinical and Experimental Otorhinolaryngology Vol.11 No.4

Objectives. Two main digital signal processing technologies inside the modern hearing aid to provide the best conditions for hearing aid users are directionality (DIR) and digital noise reduction (DNR) algorithms. There are various possible settings for these algorithms. The present study evaluates the effects of various DIR and DNR conditions (both separately and in combination) on listening comfort among hearing aid users. Methods. In 18 participants who received hearing aid fitting services from the Rehabilitation School of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences regularly, we applied acceptable noise level (ANL) as our subjective measure of listening comfort. We evaluated both of these under six different hearing aid conditions: omnidirectional-baseline, omnidirectional-broadband DNR, omnidirectional-multichannel DNR, directional, directional-broadband DNR, and directional-multichannel DNR. Results. The ANL results ranged from −3 dB to 14 dB in all conditions. The results show, among all conditions, both the omnidirectional-baseline condition and the omnidirectional-broadband DNR condition are the worst conditions for listening in noise. The DIR always reduces the amount of noise that patients received during testing. The DNR algorithm does not improve listening in noise significantly when compared with the DIR algorithms. Although both DNR and DIR algorithms yielded a lower ANL, the DIR algorithm was more effective than the DNR. Conclusion. The DIR and DNR technologies provide listening comfort in the presence of noise. Thus, user benefit depends on how the digital signal processing settings inside the hearing aid are adjusted.

Chemoprotective Effects of Hesperidin Against Genotoxicity Induced by Cyclophosphamide in Mice Bone Marrow Cells

        Ahmadi, Amirhosein,Hosseinimehr, Seyed Jalal,Naghshvar, Farshad,Hajir, Ebrahim,Ghahremani, Mehran 대한약학회 2008 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.31 No.6

The preventive effect of hesperidin as a flavonoid was investigated in mouse bone marrow cells against genotoxicty induced by cyclophosphamide. Mice were orally (gavages) pretreated with solutions of hesperidin at four different doses (50, 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg b.w.) for five consecutive days. Mice were injected intraperitoneally on the fifth day with cyclophosphamide (50 mg/kg b.w.) and killed after 24 h for the evaluation of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (MnPCEs) and the ratio of PCE/(PCE+NCE) (polychromatic erythrocyte/ polychromatic erythrocyte + normochromatic erythrocyte). Three last doses of hesperidin significantly reduced frequency of MnPCEs induced by cyclophosphamide (p<0.0001). Hesperdin at dose 200 mg/kg b.w. reduced MnPCEs 2.37 time and also completely normalized PCE/(PCE+NCE) ratio. Histological examination of bone marrow showed that hesperidin affected on proliferation and hyper cellularity of immature myeloid elements in bone marrow that reduced by cyclophsopahmide. It is obvious that hesperidin, may with antioxidative activity, reduced the oxidative stress and genotoxicity induced by cyclophosphamide in mouse bone marrow cells.

Effect of Debris on Piers Group Scour: An Experimental Study

Ebrahim Rahimi,Kourosh Qaderi,Majid Rahimpour,Mohammad Mehdi Ahmadi 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.4

Debris accumulation upstream of bridge piers is a destructive agent against the piers stability. In this study, the effect of debrisgeometrical characteristics on the local scour at piers group was investigated. A large set of experimental tests were conducted toinvestigate the effect of piers configurations, as well as, the shape, thickness, length, and position of debris on the dimensions of scourhole. The results showed that the debris with rectangular shape caused the most scour depth. In addition, among the differentconfigurations of bridge piers, the group piers (2 × 2) demonstrated the largest scour hole. In this configuration, high complexinteractions occurred among the flow, sediment and piers which generated strong horseshoe and wake vortices around the piers. Theobservations showed that the maximum depth of scour hole increases as the debris thickness increases. In addition, more the debriseffective length, more the depth of scour hole. In the case of debris with rectangular shape, as the relative thickness of debrisincreased from 0.5 to 2.67, the depth of scour hole increased 67%, 80%, 84% and 104%, in single, side by side, tandem, and grouppiers (2 × 2), respectively. By increasing the distance of debris from the water surface, the depth of scour hole increased at the first, and then decreased when the relative submergence depth of debris became 0.46. In this condition, the debris acted as a collar, prevented the bed from scour. The measured scour depths were compared with common empirical formula, the formula weremodified by considering the experimental results of this study.

The Synthesis of N-Methylbis[2-(dodecylthio)ethyl]amine (SNS) and Investigation of Its Efficiency as New Mononuclear Catalyst Complex in Copper-Based ATRP

        Hassan Hajifatheali,Ebrahim Ahmadi,Andrzej Wojtczak,Zvonko Jaglicic 한국고분자학회 2015 Macromolecular Research Vol.23 No.11

This study is a report on atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) using a ligand, N-methylbis[2-(dodecylthio)ethyl]amine (SNS), which is tridentate ligand with mixed donor atoms. This ligand was synthesized in a simple way and at a low cost and was used to prepare a Cu catalyst complex (Cu/ SNS) during the process of polymerization. The effects of various factors such as different molar ratios (100, 300, and 700 [monomer]:[initiator]) and cuprous halides (Br and Cl) on the polymerization of this ligand were investigated. The resulting catalyst complex mediated a living polymerization of MMA, yielding polymers with controlled molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distributions (1.09 < PDI < 1.4). The Highest PDI values were observed in the polymerization of the 700 molar ratio. The ligand, catalyst crystals formed at the end of polymerization, and synthesized polymers were characterized via UV-VIS, FTIR, CV, NMR, and GPC spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray crystallography as appropriate. The X-ray results for catalyst crystals showed that the catalyst was the deactivator (CuII Br2/SNS) of the ATRP equation and existed as a mononuclear catalyst complex.

Removal of oil from biodiesel wastewater by electrocoagulation method

        Mohsen Vafaie Sefti,Saeb Ahmadi,Ebrahim Sardari,Hamed Reza Javadian,Reza Katal 한국화학공학회 2013 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.30 No.3

An attempt has been made to remove oil and grease (O&G) from biodiesel wastewater as well as O&G and turbidity in the presence of H2O2 and polyaluminum chloride (PAC), as a coagulant-aid by an electrochemical method using iron as sacrificial electrodes. The effects of current density, amount of hydrogen peroxide using as an oxidizing agent and addition of coagulant-aid, on percent removal and energy consumption have been investigated. The removal efficiency of O&G was in the range of 62-86%, whereas O&G removal was 100% in the current density range of 10-12.5 mAcm−2 depending on the concentrations of H2O2 and coagulant aid. It is obtained that electrocoagulation in the absence of coagulant aid and oxidant is not too efficient for the treatment of this type of wastewater.

Effects of Endurance Training on the Serum Levels of Tumour Necrosis Factor-α and Interferon-γ in Sedentary Men

        Abdolreza Sotoodeh Jahromi,Abdossaleh Zar,Fatemeh Ahmadi,Peter Krustrup,Khosrow Ebrahim,Friborz Hovanloo,Davar Amani 대한면역학회 2014 Immune Network Vol.14 No.5

Physical activity could be considered one of the factors thataffect the immune system status and function. To find the relationbetween exercise and cytokines, we examined the possibleeffects of an 8-week endurance training program on theserum levels of cytokines, including tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in sedentarymen. A total of 30 healthy young male volunteers wererandomly divided into an endurance training group and a controlgroup. The training group followed a specific exerciseprotocol (running on a treadmill for 15∼30 min at 50∼70%maximal heart rate) for 8 weeks and the control group did notparticipate in any exercise program. Venous blood sampleswere collected from both the groups 24 h before and 24 hand 48 h after the exercise. Repeated ANOVA was used forstatistical purposes. The serum levels of TNF-α and IFN-γwere determined by ELISA. Significant (p<0.05) andnon-significant (p>0.05) decreases were observed in theserum levels of IFN-γ and TNF-α, respectively, after the8-week endurance training program. Our findings indicatedthat an 8-week endurance exercise may affect the serum levelsof some inflammatory cytokines, suggesting the beneficialrole of this training protocol in elderly population andpeople with certain conditions (inflammation of the vertebraeor other inflammatory diseases).

The behavior of concrete slabs in composite beam with C and L shaped angle shear connectors has been studied in this paper. These two types of angle shear connectors' instalment have been commonly utilized. In this study, the finite element (FE) analysis and soft computing method have been used both to present the shear connectors' push out tests and providing data results used later in soft computing method. The current study has been performed to present the aforementioned shear connectors' behavior based on the variable factors aiming the study of diverse factors' effects on C and L shaped angle in shear connectors. ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference System), has been manipulated in providing the effective parameters in shear strength forecasting by providing input-data comprising: height, length, thickness of shear connectors together with concrete strength and the respective slip of shear connectors. ANFIS has been also used to identify the predominant parameters influencing the shear strength forecast in C and L formed angle shear connectors.
