The purpose of this study is to develop models and instruments for teaching and assessing scientific experiments and practices. General objectives for teaching and evaluating scientific experiments and practices in secondary schools were analyzed and categorized into three domains:they were inquiry skill, scientific thinking skill, and scientific attitude. The sub-categories for each domain were constructed, and specific objectives for each general objective were also stated in terms of behavioral objectives according to Mager's suggestion. The tables of specification (content×behavior) were developed in order to assist secondary school teachers to teach and evaluate scientific experiments in class. In addition, we introduced some useful assessment techniques which can be adopted to evaluating learning outcomes of each specific objective. The sample test items corresponding to each objective were listed for practical usage in class.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Kyung Hee Allergic Disease Herbal Formula (KAHF) on atopic dermatitis (AD) and its mode of action. Our clinical study showed KAHF reduced Severity Scoring of Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD) indexes and subjective symptom scores. In parallel, the decreased levels of interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-5 in serum, which contributed to its AD-mitigating effect was observed. To reveal the underlying mechanisms of KAHF in AD, its anti-inflammatory effect on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced responses in RAW 264.7 cells was examined. KAHF was found to significantly inhibit the productions of nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E₂ (PGE₂), and IL-1β in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. Consistently, KAHF potently inhibited protein and mRNA expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Furthermore, KAHF inhibited LPS-induced activation of nuclear factor (NF)-κB. Taken together, our data suggest that KAHF has a beneficial effect on several eicosanoid-related skin inflammations, such as atopic dermatitis.

Objectives : Prevalence of night eating habit associated with substance use and obesity is increasing rapidly in children and adolescents. Further, staying up late and eating snacks late at night were known as leading health risk behaviors for children, suggesting the potential adverse effect of night-eating habit on children. However, only few reports had been issued on the effect of night-eating habit on gastrointestinal symptom and SUI-TAI(水滯) symptom of children. Therefore, we aimed to investigate clinical characteristics of children by night-eating symptom status. Methods : Parents were asked to give a detailed answer to a systemized medical history questionnaire concerning night-eating habit, gastrointestinal symptom and SUI-TAI symptom of their children. Medical records of 28 children treated in the Department of Pediatrics, Hospital of Oriental Medicine, were the subject of this study. Clinical characteristics of two groups of children who with no night-eating habit and frequent night-eating group(eating at night more than 3 times per week) were analysed. In addition, the correlation analysis between clinical characteristics were performed. Results : Children with frequent night-eating habit(n=7, more than 3 days of night-eating a week) were observed to have more aggravated gastrointestinal symptom and SUI-TAI symptom compared with those without night-eating habit(n=13). In parallel, the association of gastrointestinal symptom and SUI-TAI symptom was demonstrated(n=28). Conclusions : It is notable that deranged gastrointestinal function and aggravated SUI-TAI symptom were observed among children generally regarded as healthy. Therefore, endeavors to correct night-eating habit as well as to treat aggravated gastrointestinal and SUI-TAI symptoms are needed for the promotion of health of children.

For Somatometric study on the face of the Korean, the author measured transversal width of eye, intercanthal distance, dorsal length of the nose, height of columella, length of philtrum, transversal width of mouth, length of ear and width of ear in 251 heathy cases. Among the total cases, 127 were male and 124 female. Ages ranged from to over 20 years. Further observation and study made through these measurements were chronological growth development between male and female by statistical analysis. The results of studies: 1. Mean value and standard error of each part are presented bellow; 1) Transversal widths of eyes are male 22.200±0.986mm and female 21.583±0.701mm for newborns, and for adults, male 31.777±0.640mm and female 33.125±0.639mm. 2) Intercanthal distances are male 22.500mm 0.500mm and female 22.583±0.596mm for newborns, and for adults, male 33.8880.934mm and female 34.500±0.779mm. 3) Dorsal lengths of noses are male 17.200±0.646mm and female 16.8333±0.405mm for newborns, and for adults, male 43.000±0,552mm and female 40.875±1.315mm. 4) Heights of columellas are male 6.500±0.401mm and female 6.250±0.445mm for newborns, and for adults, male 15.555±0.444mm ad female 13.625±0.497mm. 5) Lengths of philtrums are male 9.400±0.541mm and female 9.916±0.336mm for newborns, and for adult, male 17.111±0.873mm and female 15.375±1.100mm 6) Transversal widths of mouths are male 23.100±1.260mm and female 25.416±0.668mm for newborns, and for adults, male 46.777±1.164mm and female 44.000±1.669mm. 7) Lengths of ears are male 36.800±0.940mm and female 36.000±1.015mm for newborns, and for adults, male 63.222±1.392mm and female 58.125±1.726mm. 8) Widths of ears are male 23.600±0,520mm and female 24.000±0.577mm for newborns, and for adults, male 30.888±0.789mm and female 29.250±0.700mm. 2. In the course of growth development all parts of the face except width of philtum are markedly active in both sex under one year of age. 3. The growth difference betwen male and female is found in height of columella, transversal width of mouth and length of ear. 4. In the range of growth development, dorsal length of nose is the widest and width of ear is the narrowest among the parts of the face.

PdCl₂-CuCl₂catalyst supported on activated carbon was examined for the low temperature oxidation of CO. The catalyst developed in the present study was active and stable at ambient conditions if water were existing in the feed gas stream. The addition of Cu(NO₃)₂into the PdCl₂-CuCl₂catalyst significantly enhanced the CO oxidation activity. X-ray diffraction study revealed that the role of Cu(NO₃)₂was to stabilize active Cu(Ⅱ) species, Cu₂Cl(OH)₃, on the catalyst surface which maintains the redox property of palladium. When HCl and SO₂were also existing in the feed, they easily inactivated the catalyst. It was found that HCl and SO₂inhibited the formation of active Cu(Ⅱ) species on the catalyst surface.
