        Unruptured Supraclinoid Internal Carotid Artery Aneurysm Surgery : Superciliary Keyhole Approach versus Pterional Approach

        Objective : A superciliary keyhole approach is an attractive, minimally invasive surgical technique, yet the procedure is limited due to a small cranial opening. Nonetheless, an unruptured supraclinoid internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysm can be an optimal surgical target of a superciliary approach as it is located in the center of the surgical view and field. Therefore, this study evaluated the feasibility and surgical outcomes of a superciliary keyhole approach for unruptured ICA aneurysms. Methods : The authors report on a consecutive series of patients who underwent a superciliary approach for clipping unruptured ICA aneurysms between January 2007 and February 2012. The data were compared with a historical control group who underwent a pterional approach between January 2003 and December 2006. Results : In the superciliary group, a total of 71 aneurysms were successfully clipped without a residual sac in 70 patients with a mean age of 57 years (range, 37-75 years). The maximum diameter of the aneurysms ranged from 4 mm to 14 mm (mean${\pm}$standard deviation, $6.6{\pm}2.3$ mm). No direct mortality or permanent morbidity was related to the surgery. The superciliary approach demonstrated statistically significant advantages over the pterional approach, including a shorter operative duration (mean, 100 min), no intraoperative blood transfusions, and no postoperative epidural hemorrhages. Conclusion : A superciliary keyhole approach provides a sufficient surgical corridor to clip most unruptured supraclinoid ICA aneurysms in a minimally invasive manner.

        Spontaneous Cerebellar Hemorrhage with the Fourth Ventricular Hemorrhage : Risk Factors Associated with Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt

        Objective : The purposes of this study are to investigate the factors that may be related to ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt in patients with cerebellar hematoma and the effect of severe fourth ventricular hemorrhage, causing obstructive hydrocephalus on subsequent VP shunt performance. Methods : This study included 31 patients with spontaneous cerebellar hematoma and concomitant fourth ventricular hemorrhage, who did not undergo a surgical evacuation of hematoma. We divided this population into two groups; the VP shunt group, and the non-VP shunt group. The demographic data, radiologic findings, and clinical factors were compared in each group. The location of the hematoma (whether occupying the cerebellar hemisphere or the vermis) and the degree of the fourth ventricular obstruction were graded respectively. The intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) score was used to assess the IVH severity. Results : Ten out of 31 patients underwent VP shunt operations. The midline location of cerebellar hematoma, the grade of fourth ventricle obstruction, and IVH severity were significantly correlated with that of VP shunt operation (p=0.015, p=0.013, p=0.028). The significant variables into a logistic regression multivariate model resulted in statistical significance for the location of cerebellar hemorrhage [p=0.05; odds ratio (OR), 8.18; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.00 to 67.0], the grade of fourth ventricle obstruction (p=0.044; OR, 19.26; 95% CI, 1.07 to 346.6). Conclusion : The location of the cerebellar hematoma on CT scans and the degree of fourth ventricle obstruction by IVH were useful signs for the selection of VP shunt operation in patients with spontaneous cerebellar hematoma and concomitant acute hydrocephalus.

      • A study on ergonomic bus design for aging persons

        Objective: 고령자의 편의를 위한 설계 및 배치와 안전을 위한 요소를 고려하여 고령자를 위한 인간공학적 버스개선 방안을 조사 연구한다. Background: 통계청에 따르면 우리나라는 이미 2000년에 저 출산 고령화 사회로 진입하였고, 2026년경에는 고령자의 비율이 전체 인구의 20.8%를 넘어 설 것으로 예측되어 초 고령 사회진입을 목전에 두고 있다. Method: 고령자의 버스 사용 설문조사를 통하여 고령자들의 버스의 이용도 및 만족도를 파악한 뒤 고령자들의 버스 이용에 대한 불편함을 조사하였다. Results: 고령자 버스 이용만족도 조사 결과 남성, 여성 모두 버스를 대중교통 중 가장 많이 이용하는 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 121명 중 50%가 보통의 만족도를 느끼고 있으며 많은 이용 빈도수 에도 불구하고 고령자들의 만족도는 높지 않았다. Conclusion: 본 연구의 결과는 고령자들의 버스 이용 시 불편도를 조사해 고령자 사고율을 감소시키고 고령자들의 사회참여율을 증가시킬 것으로 판단된다.

        중공업 설계부서 작업자의 작업 조건과 근골격계질환에 대한 연구

        Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of musculoskeletal disorders of design department in heavy industry through the investigation of musculoskeletal diseases symptoms and VDT work survey. Background: Since the advent of computers, the range of activity of computers has increased exponentially. VDT syndrome occurred as users and usage periods increased. The incidence of musculoskeletal disorders in the VDT syndrome has been steadily increasing and seriousness of economic and social problems is emerging. Method: This study participated 254 workers from the design department of heavy industries. Based on the questionnaire, we carried out the statistical test between the degree of pain of the body of the design department workers and the VDT working environment. Results: Independence test showed that VDT work environment affected body parts such as neck, shoulder, waist, arm/elbow, hand/finger/wrist and eye fatigue. Conclusion: This study will contribute to the prevention of musculoskeletal diseases and improvement of health of workers of design department in heavy industry. Application: The relationship between working conditions and the musculoskeletal disorders identified in this study can be used as a basic data for the design of VDT tasks.

        본 논문에서는 레이저 슬릿광과 2대의 카메라를 이용한 3차원 정보 추출 시스템을 소개한다. 그리고 얻어진 3차원 정보에 대해 활용성과 표시성을 고려한 거리화상 생성법과 3차원 좌표가 구해지지 않은 점에 대한 처리로서 스플라인 보간법을 이용한 보간처리에 대해서도 실험결과와 함께 보여준다.

        In this paper, 3D information extracting system using laser slit light and tow CCD cameras is proposed. Distance image expression method and the interpolation algorithm for obtained 3D information are also discussed. Finally, experimental results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed systems and algorithms.

      • Nano Droplet Vaporization using Molecular Dynamics on Parallel Computers

        The purpose of this study is to simulate droplet vaporization in the microscopic regime. Molecular dynamics (MD) can calculate properties for droplets statistically without considering the discontinuous interface between a liquid droplet and surrounding gas. However, massive computation is required for calculating force interactions between molecules, thus making parallel computation a necessity. Force decomposition was used as the algorithm for parallel processing. Two phases, the liquid droplet and ambient gas, all consisting of argon molecules, was created and equilibrated by mass diffusion and temperature control of an argon cluster initially inside a vacuum. After equilibration the periphery of the system was heated to vaporize the droplet. Thermodynamic properties such as the density, pressure, and temperature were sampled for each interval. The results here show that the vaporization rate of submicron droplets concur with the D² - law.

        <P>A metal-catalyst-free, mild, and efficient synthetic protocol for polycyclic 1,4-benzodiazepines via cascade [5 + 2]/[2 + 2] cycloadditions between pyridinium zwitterions and arynes is reported. Mechanistic experiments revealed that pyridinium zwitterions act as 1,5-dipoles in [5 + 2] cycloadditions with arynes for the construction of 1,4-benzodiazepines, which further undergo [2 + 2] cycloaddition resulting in the one-pot formation of one CN bond and three CC bonds.</P>

      • 개인 인장 인식시스템의 구현

        The personal seal is mainly used in eastern cultural area. Even if the frequency in use of it is gradually decreasing due to the simplification of administrative affairs, it is still used with caution to make use of one's right of property and to authenticate many other sensitive matters related to real estate in Korea. Because of the reasons mentioned above, it is uncomfortable to be issued a certificate of a legal seal impression. One has to attend the local office where his seal is registered to get a certification. There are several obstacles have to be solved to computerize it such as DB construction of precise seal images and recognition system with the registered legal seal images and input one. This paper describes the personal seal recognition system from image input procedure to sequential processes which provide the basis of interpretation centered on the final decision algorithm. Even though hardware device would be necessitated to construct a better recognition system, as a prototype, many image processing techniques and algorithms have been adopted and devised to solve the problem in a software point of view.
