Serial Changes of CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ Regulatory T Cell in Canine Model of Sepsis Induced by Endotoxin
YU, Dohyeon,KIM, Junhwan,PARK, Chul,PARK, Jinho The Japanese Society of Veterinary Science 2014 The Journal of veterinary medical science Vol.76 No.5

ABSTRACT

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) suppress the immune system and maintain the homeostasis of the immune system in healthy dogs. In septic patients, the percentage of circulating Tregs is increasing, which may cause the sepsis-induced immunosuppression. This study was performed to investigate the changes of the percentage of Tregs in total lymphocytes of the peripheral blood in the experimental canine endotoxemia model. The animals injected with a high dose lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced severe leukopenia followed by leukocytosis, but the total lymphocytes number was relatively consistent. As a result of flow cytometric analysis, the percentage of Tregs in total lymphocytes of the peripheral blood was 8.45 ± 1.30% (day 0), and it temporarily decreased 2.54 ± 1.16% (day 1) and increased continuously until the end of the experiment (14.34 ± 4.10% on day 3 and 25.70 ± 7.39% on day 7), respectively. This study provides basic information in physiologic and immunologic changes in Tregs in dogs with sepsis model.

Non-B, Non-T Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in a Cat
DoHyeon Yu 한국임상수의학회 2023 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.40 No.4
A 7-year-old neutered male, domestic shorthair cat presented anorex- ia and lethargy. The complete blood cell count revealed severe non-regenerative anemia, lymphocytic leukocytosis, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. On the peripheral blood smear examination, medium to large lymphoblastic cells with moderate amounts of basophilic cytoplasm were observed in up to 70% of peripheral leukocytes. Feline leukemia and immunodeficiency viruses were not detected using a commercial diagnostic kit. While splenomegaly and blunt mar- gins of the caudoventral liver were observed in abdominal radiography, changes in the intra-abdominal lymph nodes were not remarkable. Ultimately, flow cy- tometric immunophenotyping from the peripheral blood revealed a negative for B-cell markers (CD21–/CD79a–) and T-cell markers (CD3–/CD4–/CD5–/CD8–). Based on the hematological examination and the immunophenotyping assay, the cat was diagnosed with non-B, non-T acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Here, we report a rare case of non-B, non-T acute lymphoblastic leukemia to raise awareness and provide information on clinical symptoms and laboratory test and immunophenotyping analysis results.
Paraneoplastic Hypereosinophilia in a Dog with Intestinal T-Cell Lymphoma
DoHyeon Yu 한국임상수의학회 2023 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.40 No.1
Paraneoplastic hypereosinophilia, characterized by the infiltration of eosinophils into systemic organs, has rarely been reported in dogs with intestinal lymphoma. A 12-year-old spayed female Maltese with eosinophilia in the periph- eral blood and ascites was found to have muscular layer thickening in the small intestine. Histologically, there was transmural infiltration of small to intermediate sized neoplastic lymphocytes that were immunohistochemically CD3-/CD79a-. PCR for antigen receptor rearrangement demonstrated clonal T cell receptor gene population. A moderate number of eosinophils were present along with neoplastic lymphocytes in the small intestine, and eosinophil infiltration was also noted in the abdominal lymph nodes and spleen. The present case reports intes- tinal T-cell lymphoma with generalized paraneoplastic hypereosinophilia. Clini- cians should be aware that hypereosinophilia can be found in the organs, body cavity fluid, and peripheral blood of dogs with intestinal lymphoma.
Laryngeal Paralysis in a Cat with Malignant Thymoma
DoHyeon Yu 한국임상수의학회 2023 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.40 No.1
A 10-year-old castrated male Domestic Shorthair cat visited a veteri- nary medical teaching hospital for emergency dyspnea. The cat was hypoxic and hypotensive, and stridorous respiration was remarkable. Visual inspection con- firmed laryngeal paralysis and a lack of mobility of the left larynx. Megaesoph- agus, aspiration pneumonia, cranial mediastinal mass, and positive Tensilon test results using neostigmine were observed, indicating acquired myasthenia gravis sec- ondary to thymic neoplasia. After 10 minutes of neostigmine 0.02 mg/kg IV admin- istration, laryngeal paralysis and dyspnea resolved. Histopathlogical examination for the cranial mediastinal mass after surgical resection confirmed malignant thymoma. Here, we report a case of acquired myasthenia gravis in a cat with a malignant thymoma that presented with life-threatening dyspnea due to laryn- geal paralysis. Feline laryngeal paralysis is uncommon, and myasthenia gravis, a cause of laryngeal paralysis in cats, has not yet been reported. Myasthenia gravis should be considered in cats with laryngeal paralysis.

Food culture and food additives in modern society are inextricably linked. However, the names of food additives are unfamiliar and diverse, so many people do not know what they are used for, what functions they have, or what regulations they have for safety. OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is used to recognize additives in food and provide information such as type, function, stability and side effects to help people eat a healthy diet.
