Vol.- No.27
Color comparison between non-vital and vital teeth
Delia Cristina Greta,Horațiu Alexandru Colosi,Cristina Gasparik,Diana Dudea 대한치과보철학회 2018 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.10 No.3
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to define a color space of non-vital teeth and to compare it with the color space of matched vital teeth, recorded in the same patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In a group of 218 patients, with the age range from 17 to 70, the middle third of the buccal surface of 359 devitalized teeth was measured using a clinical spectrophotometer (Vita Easyshade Advance). Lightness (L*), chromatic parameters (a*, b*), chroma (C*), hue angle (h) and the closest Vita shade in Classical and 3D Master codifications were recorded. For each patient, the same data were recorded in a vital reference tooth. The measurements were performed by the same operator with the same spectrophotometer, using a standardized protocol for color evaluation. RESULTS. The color coordinates of non-vital teeth varied as follows: lightness L*: 52.83–92.93, C*: 8.23–58.90, h: 51.20–101.53, a*: -2.53–24.80, b*: 8.10–53.43. For the reference vital teeth, the ranges of color parameters were: L*: 60.90–97.16, C*: 8.43–39.23, h: 75.30–101.13, a*: -2.36–9.60, b*: 8.36–39.23. The color differences between vital and non-vital teeth depended on tooth group, but not on patient age. CONCLUSION. Non-vital teeth had a wider color space than vital ones. Non-vital teeth were darker (decreased lightness), more saturated (increased chroma), and with an increased range of the hue interval. An increased tendency towards positive values on the a* and b* axes suggested redder and yellower non-vital teeth compared to vital ones.

Science in the Philippines was previously taught in English but is now being delivered at the grade 3 level using Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) across the country to address the gaps in scientific literacy which are embedded in the K to 12 Curriculum. This study analyzed the perception of teachers and parents on the use of MTB-MLE in science classes in terms of language for learning and implementation, and the perception of teachers on its challenges and its use in science teaching. A modified survey questionnaire was adapted from Burton (2013), Filmore (2014) and Lualhati (2018) and was answered by 54 teachers and 96 parents of Grade 3 students from 6 public and private schools in Baguio City. Mean, standard deviation, ranking and t-test were employed for the statistical treatment of data using SPSS. It was revealed that teachers and parents strongly agreed on the use of MTB-MLE as language for learning and perceived their schools ready for its implementation. Lack of instructional materials in Ilocano ranked first among the perceived challenges by the teachers. The use of Ilocano in science classes was perceived by the teachers to enhance students’ academic performance but more preference was given to English as a medium of instruction. This sheds light that there is a misalignment in MTB-MLE policy and implementation. It also implies that parents’ and teachers’ perceptions are important in its implementation. It is recommended that further studies be conducted on the use of MTB-MLE in science classes across the country, and thus, may help policy makers, curriculum developers and stakeholders create a sound curriculum and materials in the context of MTB-MLE science teaching and learning.

Purpose: This study aims to determine the marketability of the heritage sites in Region III, Philippines. More specifically, it will obtain information on the: (a) profile of the heritage sites in Central Luzon; (b) dimensional issues of their marketability along social, environmental, and economic lines; (c) quality of services in terms of tangibility, responsiveness, empathy, assurance, and reliability; and (d) its business model canvas. Research design, data, and methodology: This will utilize a descriptive survey of the heritage sites in Central Luzon, namely: Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, and Bataan. There will be 60 respondents, including 5 facilitators, 24 residents, and 31 tourists. The results will be statistically measured through the measures of central tendencies, dispersion, and the test of significance. Result and conclusion: This study will comprehensively examine the local tourism sector, benefiting various stakeholders. It serves as a valuable resource for tourists by providing insights into destination marketing strategies and enhancing heritage tourism experiences. Administrators benefit from coping strategy evaluations, aiding in the formulation of effective strategies aligned with industry goals. Tourism businesses align with industry objectives and the study streamlines ordinances for site protection for local government units. Additionally, the community gains empowerment through insights into employable activities and potential businesses, influencing assessments of the justification for local preservation ordinances.
