      • Rare earths from secondary sources: profitability study

        Innocenzi, Valentina,De Michelis, Ida,Ferella, Francesco,Veglio, Francesco Techno-Press 2016 Advances in environmental research Vol.5 No.2

The paper is focused on the economic analysis of two hydrometallurgical processes for recovery of yttrium and other rare earth elements (REEs) from fluorescent phosphors of spent lamps. The first process includes leaching with sulphuric acid and precipitation of a mixture of oxalates by oxalic acid, the second one includes leaching with sulphuric acid, solvent extraction with D2EHPA, stripping by acid and recovery of yttrium and traces of other rare earths (REs) by precipitation with oxalic acid. In both cases the REEs were recovered as oxides by calcination of the oxalate salts. The economic analysis was estimated considering the real capacity of the HydroWEEE mobile's plant ($420kg\;batch^{-1}$). For the first flow-sheet the cost of recycling comes to $4.0{\euro}kg^{-1}$, while the revenue from the end-product is around $5.40{\euro}kg^{-1}$. The second process is not profitable, as well as the first one, taking into account the composition of the final oxides: the cost of recycling comes to $5.2{\euro}kg^{-1}$, while the revenue from the end-product is around $3.56{\euro}kg^{-1}$. The process becomes profitable if the final RE oxide mixture is sold for nearly $50{\euro}kg^{-1}$, a value rather far from the current market prices but not so unlikely since could be achieved in the incoming years, considering the significant fluctuations of the Res' market.

Production system influences color stability and lipid oxidation in gluteus medius muscle

Salim Ana Paula Amaral de Alcântara,Ferreira Micheli da Silva,Monteiro Maria Lucia Guerra,Lima Loíse Caroline Santos de,Magalhães Isabelle Trezze Marins,Conte-Júnior Carlos Adam,Mano Sérgio Borges 아세아·태평양축산학회 2023 Animal Bioscience Vol.36 No.5

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the color and oxidative stability of beef gluteus medius (GM) from cattle raised in organic and non-organic production systems. Methods: The GM samples (n = 10) were obtained from organic (ORG; n = 5) or nonorganic (NORG; n = 5) beef samples, sliced into 2.54-cm steaks, packaged in aerobic conditions, and stored for nine days at 4°C. ORG and NORG steaks were compared regarding myoglobin concentration, pH, instrumental color, delta E (ΔE), metmyoglobin reducing activity (MRA), and lipid oxidation on days 0, 5, and 9. Results: Feeding system did not influence (p>0.05) the myoglobin concentration. ORG steaks exhibited greater (p<0.05) meat pH, yellowness, and MRA, whereas NORG steaks exhibited greater (p<0.05) redness, chroma, R630/580, delta E, and lipid oxidation. ORG and NORG steaks exhibited similar (p>0.05) lightness and hue angle. During storage, ORG and NORG exhibited an increase in muscle pH, hue angle, and lipid oxidation; and a decrease (p<0.05) in redness, yellowness, chroma, and color stability (R630/580). Both samples exhibited a stable (p>0.05) pattern for lightness and MRA. Conclusion: Therefore, the production system can affect beef color and lipid stability during storage.

Treatment of fluid catalytic cracking spent catalysts to recover lanthanum and cerium: Comparison between selective precipitation and solvent extraction

Valentina Innocenzi,Francesco Ferella,Ida De Michelis,Francesco Veglio 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.24 No.-

The paper is focused on the study of hydrometallurgical processes for recovery of rare earths (RE) from fluid catalytic cracking catalysts (FCCC). According to the experimental results two processes were proposed: in the first one RE were recovered as double sulfates by selective precipitation with sodium hydroxide after leaching with sulfuric acid. The second approach consisted of dissolution of powder by acids, solvent extraction by (2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (D2EHPA), stripping and precipitation of RE oxalates using oxalic acid. Experiments showed that solvent extraction was found to be beneficial in terms of achieving improved final products quality with greater purity (98%).

Preliminary Studies on the Antinociceptive Activity of Vaccinium ashei Berry in Experimental Animal Models

        Maria Rosana Ramirez,Leandra Guterres,Odila E. Dickel,Micheli R. de Castro,Amelia T. Henriques,Ma´rcia M. de Souza,Daniela Martı´ Barros 한국식품영양과학회 2010 Journal of medicinal food Vol.13 No.2

The aim of this study was to carry out pharmacological screening in order to evaluate the potential effects of lyophilized fruits of different cultivars of Vaccinium ashei Reade (Family Ericaceae) berries, commonly known as rabbiteye blueberries, on nociception. This was achieved using the formalin, hot plate, tail-flick, and writhing tests in mice. During this experiment the mice consumed approximately 3.2–6.4mg/kg/day (p.o.) of the anthocyanins. The extract was administered for 21 days or 60 minutes before test. Morphine and diclofenac (10mg/kg, p.o.) as the standard drug (positive control) and water (via oral gavage) as the negative control were administered before all tests. The blueberry extract produced a significant decrease in constrictions induced by acetic acid and caused graded inhibition of the second phase of formalin-induced pain. Moreover, in both the hot plate and tail-flick tests, it significantly increased the threshold. These data suggest that the extract from V. ashei produced antinociceptive effects, as demonstrated in the experimental models of nociception in mice. Additional experiments are necessary in order to clarify the true target for the antinociceptive effects of rabbiteye blueberry extract.

Multibody modelling of N DOF robot arm assigned to milling manufacturing. Dynamic analysis and position errors evaluation

Stefano Baglioni,Filippo Cianetti,Claudio Braccesi,Denis Mattia De Micheli 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.1

Nowadays, with the large use of robot manipulators in the most different fields of industrial production, two main aims must be commonlyreached: robot dynamic behavior improvement and end-effector position errors reduction. For a N DOF robot arm, in case of specificapplications such as milling manufacturing, one of the main source of end-effector position errors can be identified with joint compliances. This aspect, well known in literature, has been confirmed by experimental tests and measurements carried out on a specificrobot assigned to non-standard milling manufacturing of marble objects (sculptures realization). To approach and analyze this issue theauthors chose the multibody simulation environment. Hence, the authors developed a parametric modelling procedure that, by determiningthe robot characteristics through CAD model and technical data sheet investigation, provides reliable multibody dynamic models ofgeneric N DOF robot arms. In this modelling approach the robot geometry construction is based on a standard strategy typical of thisresearch field (i.e. Denavit-Hartenberg, Veitschegger-Wu). The developed procedure enables to obtain robot representation at variouscomplexity levels according to the number of modelled robot components and actuation typology (Motion laws defined both in displacementor applied torque). Eventually, for a specific test case, the authors were able to correctly simulate the robot dynamic behavior,as it was demonstrated by numerical/experimental comparison. In this way the influence of the joint compliance behavior and actuatorrotational inertia effects on end-effector position accuracy was analyzed.
