This work aimed to develop an edible coating based on Mexican lime ( Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) pectic extract and essentialoil on Haden mango ( Mangifera indica L.) to extend its shelf life. Mango cubes were coated by immersion in a lime pecticextract (1% pectin w/v), lime essential oil (0.05% v/v), and glycerol (0.7% v/v) solution for 2, 5, and 10 min. Subsequently, coated and uncoated (control) test samples were stored for 21 days, and physical–chemical and microbiological analyseswere performed every 3 days. The results showed no signifi cant diff erences for total soluble solids, pH, and fi rmness. On thesixth day, bacterial growth was signifi cantly lower in coated mangos than in the control (log 6.08 ± 0.49 and 7.63 ± 0.20 UFCg −1 , respectively). The application of the edible coating extended the shelf life of minimally processed mangos by 3 days, delaying physical and chemical changes as well as bacterial growth.

In the present investigation the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al-Mg alloys prepared by twin roll casting (TRC), varying rolling speed, (i.e., 3, 4, and 5rpm) were studied. Optical microstructures of the all the samples show dendritic morphology. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS) studies show segregation of alloying elements at the interdendritic regions. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation confirms the presence of intermetallic phase (Mg5Al8) at the grain boundaries. It was observed that the secondary dendritic arm spacing (SDAS) increases (marginally) with rolling speed. Also the microhardness and tensile strength decreases with increase in rolling speed.

In the present investigation the microstructure and age-hardening behaviour of Al-Mg-Si alloy prepared by twin roll casting (TRC), varying rolling speed (i.e., 3, 4, and 5rpm), were studied. The as-cast samples were subjected to optical microscopy (OM) to understand the effect of rolling speed on the alloy microstructure. Significant difference in grain size and shape was observed for all the alloys in as-cast condition. The as-cast samples were solutionized at 540oC for 2h followed by isothermal heating at 180oC for different time intervals. Thereafter, the as-cast and solutionized samples were subjected to scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Segregation of solute atoms at grain boundaries were observed for both as-cast as well as solutionized samples. Age-hardening results show that time to attain peak hardness decreases for the alloy produced by higher rolling speed.

The metabolic response of Labeo rohita to thermal acclimation was assessed. Advanced fingerlings of L. rohita (average weight $31{\pm}1.4g$) were acclimated to 31, 33 and $36^{\circ}C$ compared with ambient temperatures ($26^{\circ}C$) for 30 days and different enzymes associated with stress response were estimated. Glycolytic enzyme-Lactate dehydrogenase, (LDH, E.C.1.1.1.27), TCA cycle enzyme-Malate dehydrogenase (MDH, E.C.1.1.1.37), Protein metabolizing enzymes-Aspartate amino transferase (AST, E.C.2.6.1.1) and Alanine amino transferase (ALT, E.C.2.6.1.2) of liver, gill and muscle, Gluconeogenic enzymes-Fructose 1,6 Bi phosphatase (FBPase, E.C. 3.1.3.11) and Glucose 6 phosphatase (G6Pase, E.C. 3.1.3.9) of liver and kidney were significantly (p<0.05) different with increasing acclimation temperatures. Heat Shock Protein-70 (HSP-70) was expressed in increasing intensity at 31, 33 and $36^{\circ}C$ but was not expressed at $26^{\circ}C$. Results suggest that higher acclimation temperatures enhance metabolism and L. rohita maintains homeostasis between $26-36^{\circ}C$ via an acclimation episode. Such adaptation appears to be facilitated by resorting to gluconeogenic and glycogenolytic pathways for energy mobilization and induction of HSPs.

Multiferroic gadolinium (Gd) doped BiFeO 3 (BFO) and PbTiO 3 (PT) samples [(Pb 1−x Bi 0.5x Gd 0.5x )(Fe x Ti 1−x )O 3 ] with x = 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 0.7 are formulated by adopting the solid state reaction process. The impact of gadolinium substitution in the crystal structure, morphological behavior and electrical properties has been studied. By altering the Gd concentration in the solid solution a change in the structure is observed that is from tetragonal to rhombohedral. The size of the grain in the compounds reduces as a result of enrich in gadolinium content of the furnished sample. The subsidence of lead minimizes the toxic behavior of the material with significant improvements in dielectric response of gadolinium modifi ed BiFeO3 – PbTiO 3synthesized system. From the impedance study, the material presents negative temperature coefficient of resistance characteristics and the impedance is due to the presence of grain and grain boundary eff ect inside the materials. It is realized that the remnant polarization decreases and frequency dependent ac conductivity increases with the concentration of gadolinium in the electronic system. From conductivity study, the equipped electronic materials show non-exponential type of conductivity relaxation.

In this present study the (Pb 1/2 Ba 1/2 )(Ni 1/2 W 1/2 )O 3 , [PBNW] perovskite compound has been formulated and synthesized by adopting a solid-state reaction technique. The detailed structural, morphological, and electrical characterization has been carried out to explore its characteristics for further application in the field of electronic devices and sensors. With the help of x-ray diff raction analysis orthorhombic structure has been recognized. Dielectric, impedance spectroscopy, and a.c. conductivity analysis has been carried out through a wide range of temperatures as well as frequency (temperature range 25–500 °C, frequency range 1 kHz to 1 MHz). Presence of a single semi-circular arc from Nyquist analysis points toward the grain contribution of the sample. An equivalent circuit model has been developed to explore its electrical behavior. The activation energy, as well as the charge carrier mobility, has been estimated. Methodical studies for dielectric properties at high temperatures are accomplished for analysing electrical inhomogeneity allied with surfaces, grain boundaries, or grains, which are imperative for fundamental characterization and device fabrication.

The success of rearing with presently available conventional bivoltine is unpredictable in some seasons of the tropical regions due to highly fluctuating adverse climatic conditions. Thus, in order to popularize bivoltine breeds in tropical parts of India, it is very much essential to have a bivoltine breed(s), which can give stable cocoon crop under variable environments. With this objective a breeding programme was undertaken to improve the survival trait in bivoltine silkworm by introducing multivoltine genes into bivoltine through back crossing. Resultant bivoltine lines showed significantly higher survival in compared to the receptor (Bivoltine) parent and control bivoltine breed. Esterase isozyme analysis revealed similar banding pattern in the developed bivoltine and in the donor multivoltine, which predicts the introgression of multivoltine character into evolved bivoltine.
