      • HPV, Cervical Cancer and Pap Test Related Knowledge Among a Sample of Female Dental Students in India

Doshi, Dolar,Reddy, B Srikanth,Karunakar, P,Deshpande, Kopparesh Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.13

Background: The present study was designed to ascertain knowledge about HPV, cervical cancer (CC) and the Pap test among female dental students of Panineeya Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Hyderabad, India. Materials and Methods: A self-administered questionnaire covering demographic details, knowledge relating to human papilloma virus (HPV) (8 items), cervical cancer (4 items) and the Pap smear (6 items) was employed. Responses were coded as "True, False and Don't Know". Mean and standard deviation (SD) for correct answers and levels of knowledge were determined. Results: Based on the year of study, significant differences in knowledge of HPV werenoted for questions on symptoms (p=0.01); transmission from asymptomatic partners (p=0.002); treatment with antibiotics (p=0.002); start of sexual activity (p=0.004); and recommended age for HPV vaccination (p=0.01). For knowledge regarding CC, significance was observed for the age group being affected (p=0.008) and symptoms of the disease in early stages (p=0.001). Indications for Pap smear tests like symptoms' of vaginal discharge (p=0.002), marital status (p=0.01) and women with children (p=0.02) had significant difference based on the year of study. Based on religion, transmission of HPV via pregnancy, HPV related diseases except CC and preventive measures except condom use and oral contraceptives showed significant differences. However, significant variation with religion was observed only for two preventive measures of CC (Pap test; p=0.004) and HPV vaccination (p=0.003). Likewise, only the frequency of Pap test showed a significant difference for religion (p=0.001). Conclusions: This study emphasizes the lack of awareness with regard to HPV, CC and screening with pap smear even among health professionals. Hence, regular health campaigns are essential to reduce the disease burden.

생강 뿌리썩음증상의 병징학, 기생체간 상호작용 및 약제방제

        ANIL DOSHI,SNEH MATHUR 한국응용곤충학회 1987 한국응용곤충학회지 Vol.26 No.4

Three diffeerent types of symptoms were observed according to the pathogen associated with the rhizomes. The maximum rotting was observed in case when Pythium aphanidermatum was inoculated first followed by Fusarium solani. There was no interaction in case of root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita and Pythium aphanidermatum. Average per cent germination of the rhizomes were increased significantly in each treatment and maximum in case of Alliette(.25%). The per cent pre & post drenching rotting was minimum in case of Alliette, Burgandy mixture, Dithane-M 45 and Difolatan. These fungicides also increase the yield of rhizome significantly.

DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF COUPLED DYNAMICS CODE 'TRIKIN' FOR VVER REACTORS

        Obaidurrahman, K.,Doshi, J.B.,Jain, R.P.,Jagannathan, V. Korean Nuclear Society 2010 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.42 No.3

New generation nuclear reactors are designed using advanced safety analysis methods. A thorough understanding of different interacting physical phenomena is necessary to avoid underestimation and overestimation of consequences of off-normal transients in the reactor safety analysis results. This feature requires a multiphysics reactor simulation model. In this context, a coupled dynamics model based on a multiphysics formulation is developed indigenously for the transient analysis of large pressurized VVER reactors. Major simplifications are employed in the model by making several assumptions based on the physics of individual phenomenon. Space and time grids are optimized to minimize the computational bulk. The capability of the model is demonstrated by solving a series of international (AER) benchmark problems for VVER reactors. The developed model was used to analyze a number of reactivity transients that are likely to occur in VVER reactors.

A CHARACTERISTICS-BASED IMPLICIT FINITE-DIFFERENCE SCHEME FOR THE ANALYSIS OF INSTABILITY IN WATER COOLED REACTORS

Dutta, Goutam,Doshi, Jagdeep B. Korean Nuclear Society 2008 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.40 No.6

The objective of the paper is to analyze the thermally induced density wave oscillations in water cooled boiling water reactors. A transient thermal hydraulic model is developed with a characteristics-based implicit finite-difference scheme to solve the nonlinear mass, momentum and energy conservation equations in a time-domain. A two-phase flow was simulated with a one-dimensional homogeneous equilibrium model. The model treats the boundary conditions naturally and takes into account the compressibility effect of the two-phase flow. The axial variation of the heat flux profile can also be handled with the model. Unlike the method of characteristics analysis, the present numerical model is computationally inexpensive in terms of time and works in a Eulerian coordinate system without the loss of accuracy. The model was validated against available benchmarks. The model was extended for the purpose of studying the flow-induced density wave oscillations in forced circulation and natural circulation boiling water reactors. Various parametric studies were undertaken to evaluate the model's performance under different operating conditions. Marginal stability boundaries were drawn for type-I and type-II instabilities in a dimensionless parameter space. The significance of adiabatic riser sections in different boiling reactors was analyzed in detail. The effect of the axial heat flux profile was also investigated for different boiling reactors.

Morphological and morphometric study of pulmonary vein anatomy in relation to cardiac invasive and electrophysiological procedures

        Harshal Oza,Bhavik Doshi 대한해부학회 2023 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.56 No.4

Pulmonary veins (PVs) and their myocardial sleeves play an important role in the development of atrial fibrillation. Hence, detailed knowledge of PV anatomy is required to improve the procedural success rate and prevent complicationsduring cardiac procedures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the PV anatomy along with anatomical variations inthe Indian population. Total 100 formalin fixed cadaveric hearts were examined. The number and pattern of the PVswere observed along with the measurement of their horizontal and vertical diameters. The ovality index for each PV wascalculated. Classical PV pattern was observed in 62% cases. Variant pattern like additional right middle PV pattern and leftcommon PV pattern were found in 20% and 10% cases respectively. A separate pattern with presence of both right middlePV and left common PV was observed in 6% cases. In the classical pattern right superior PV was the largest followed by rightinferior, left superior and left inferior PV. The additional right middle PV had the smallest diameter whereas the left commonPV had the largest diameter. Almost all the veins had greater vertical diameters in comparison to horizontal diameters. Thevariant PVs were oval and had greater ovality index compared to the normal PVs. In classical pattern 54.8% hearts whereas invariant pattern 79% hearts had one or more oval PV. The given data can help clinicians for planning and execution of variousinterventional and electrophysiological procedures involving PVs.

A Nationwide Assessment of the “July Effect” and Predictors of Post-Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography Sepsis at Urban Teaching Hospitals in the United States

        Rupak Desai,Upenkumar Patel,Shreyans Doshi,Dipen Zalavadia,Wardah Siddiq,Hitanshu Dave,Mohammad Bilal,Vikas Khullar,Hemant Goyal,Madhav Desai,Nihar Shah 대한소화기내시경학회 2019 Clinical Endoscopy Vol.52 No.5

Background/Aims: To analyze the incidence of post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) sepsis in the early (Julyto September) and later (October to June) academic months to assess the “July effect”. Methods: The National Inpatient Sample (2010–2014) was used to identify ERCP-related adult hospitalizations at urban teachinghospitals by applying relevant procedure codes from the International Classification of Diseases, 9th revision, Clinical Modification. Post-ERCP outcomes were compared between the early and later academic months. A multivariate analysis was performed to evaluatethe odds of post-ERCP sepsis and its predictors. Results: Of 481,193 ERCP procedures carried out at urban teaching hospitals, 124,934 were performed during the early academicmonths. The demographics were comparable for ERCP procedures performed during the early and later academic months. A higherincidence (9.4% vs. 8.8%, p<0.001) and odds (odds ratio [OR], 1.07) of post-ERCP sepsis were observed in ERCP performed during theearly academic months. The in-hospital mortality rate (7% vs. 7.5%, p=0.072), length of stay, and total hospital charges in patients withpost-ERCP sepsis were also equivalent between the 2 time points. Pre-ERCP cholangitis (OR, 3.20) and post-ERCP complications suchas cholangitis (OR, 6.27), perforation (OR, 3.93), and hemorrhage (OR, 1.42) were significant predictors of higher post-ERCP sepsis inprocedures performed during the early academic months. Conclusions: The July effect was present in the incidence of post-ERCP sepsis, and academic programs should take into considerationthe predictors of post-ERCP sepsis to lower health-care burden.

Mini-Bentall Surgery: The Right Thoracotomy Approach

        Manish Jawarkar,Pratik Manek,Vivek Wadhawa,Chirag Doshi 대한흉부외과학회 2021 Journal of Chest Surgery (J Chest Surg) Vol.54 No.6

Surgeons are increasingly using the right mini-thoracotomy approach to perform aortic valve surgery. This approach has shown better results in terms of blood loss and length of hospital stay than the sternotomy approach. For selected patients requiring aortic root and ascending aorta surgery, a right mini-thoracotomy approach may prove beneficial. In our technique, we placed a 5-cm horizontal skin incision in the right second intercostal space. Femoro-femoral cardiopulmonary bypass was established. A valved aortic conduit was used for aortic root replacement. The patient’s postoperative course was uneventful, with a short hospital stay. This technique offers a minimally invasive approach to aortic root and ascending aorta surgery with easy adaptability and reduced costs.

Study of Patients with Bilateral Knee Osteoarthritis Undergoing Total Knee Replacement Procedure with Coexisting Lumbar Spondylosis Symptoms

        Londhe Sanjay Bhalchandra,Shah Ravi Vinod,Patwardhan Meghana,Doshi Amit Pankaj,Londhe Shubhankar Sanjay,Subhedar Kavita,Kundnani Vishal G.,Patel Jwalant Y. 대한척추외과학회 2021 Asian Spine Journal Vol.15 No.6

Study Design: This is a prospective cohort study involving patients who were followed for 2 years after total knee replacement (TKR) to determine changes in lumbar spine and knee symptoms. Purpose: The objectives of this study were to determine the percentage of patients undergoing bilateral TKR who present with coexisting lumbar spine problems and determine if TKR relieves lumbar spine symptoms. Overview of Literature: No studies quantify the percentage of TKR patients who experience relief of lumbar spine symptoms after TKR surgery. Methods: The study included 200 patients (164 females, 36 males) undergoing primary TKR. Follow-up was performed at 4 weeks, 3, 6, 12, and 24 months. Lumbar spine and knee symptom improvements were assessed using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and Oxford Knee Score, respectively. Results: All 200 patients undergoing bilateral TKR presented with radiographic lumbar spine degenerative pathology; 60% (n=120) of the patients presented with moderate to severe clinical symptoms of lumbar spondylosis, including 54% (n=108) with degenerative lumbar spondylosis and lumbar canal stenosis and 6% (n=12) with degenerative spondylolisthesis. Of the 120 patients who presented with lumbar spine problems, 90% (n=108) reported improvement in their symptoms; the ODI score improved from 42.5%±4.1% preoperative score to 15.6%±2.3% postoperative score (p-value<0.001). Of the 12 patients with no improvement, 10 patients underwent percutaneous procedures for their lumbar spine pathology with good results, one patient underwent surgery, and one declined any intervention. Conclusions: A significant number of patients (60%) undergoing bilateral TKR also present with symptomatic lumbar spine problems. Patients with mild to moderate lumbar spine degenerative symptoms and no associated severe radiating pain on activity are more likely to experience relief of their symptoms post-TKR.
