Multiphysics Modeling and Simulation of Strength Development and Distribution in Cemented Tailings Backfill Structures

Liang Cui,Mamadou Fall 한국콘크리트학회 2018 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.12 No.3

Cemented paste backfill structures are complex underground cementitious structures. After fresh cemented paste backfill (CPB; a mix of tailings, binder and water) is poured into underground stopes (mined-out voids), its strength which is a key mechanical design criterion of CPB structures, gradually develops with time. The development of CPB strength is governed by the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical (THMC) processes in the CPB mass. Therefore, to assess and predict the changes to CPB strength and its distribution within the CPB mass, a multiphysics model on CPB strength is proposed in this study, and has been successfully validated against a series of experimental data. Then, the validated model is used to investigate the changes in the strength of CPB structure under various influential factors in the field (e.g., backfilling strategy, inclination angle of stope, and filling rate). The obtained results provide better insight into the process of the strength increase and spatial distribution in CPB structures as well as contribute to more cost-effective engineering designs of CPB structures.

Numerical Simulation of Consolidation Behavior of Large Hydrating Fill Mass

Liang Cui,Mamadou Fall 한국콘크리트학회 2020 International Journal of Concrete Structures and M Vol.14 No.3

Underground mined-out voids need to be backfilled for the stability of the surrounding rock and also to increase ore extraction from adjacent pillars. One of the relatively newer means is cemented paste backfilling, which has been extensively adopted in underground mining operations around the world. During and after the placement of cemented paste backfill (CPB) into stopes, complex multiphysics (thermal, hydraulic, mechanical and chemical) processes take place in the large mass of CPB and could affect its consolidation behavior. An analysis of the consolidation process in CPB mass is essential for the assessment of CPB behavior and cost-effective designs in practice. In this paper, multiphysics simulation of the consolidation behavior of CPB mass is performed under different conditions, including the mixture recipe, and backfilling, drainage, surrounding rock and curing conditions. It is found that the in situ consolidation behavior of CPB structures is a function of the multiphysics processes that occur in the cementing backfill mass. Moreover, the rock mass conditions, including the geometry and rock wall roughness, influence the consolidation process of CPB structures. Cement content, curing time and backfilling rate play a crucial role in the consolidation process of CPB. The obtained results can facilitate a better understanding of the consolidation behaviour of CPB for backfill designers and engineers, and thus contribute to enhance the engineering of CPB structures.

Synthesis, Application, and Recovery of Alkali-Clearable Disperse Dyes Containing Azo Pyridone Structure

        Liang Jin,Tao Qian,Ren-Liang Wang,Tao Zhu,Wei-Guo Chen,Hua Jiang,Zhi-Hua Cui 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.4

Carboxylic acid ester disperse dyes containing an azo pyridone structure have a high molar extinction coefficient, excellent washing color fastness, and simple synthetic methods. Dyes were readily synthesized through a conventional diazocoupling reaction between the reactant ethyl p-aminobenzoate and a coupling component containing an azo pyridonestructure. Subsequently, the molecular structures of the target products were characterized by FTIR, mass spectrometry,1H NMR, 13C NMR, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The synthesized dyes were used to dyepoly(ethylene terephthalate) fabric, and their washing and rubbing color fastness properties were tested and compared underdifferent post-treatment methods. Moreover, under the condition of alkali clearing, the relationships among different alkaliconcentrations and clearing effects were studied to determine the optimal alkali clearing process conditions for dyed fabrics, and the minimum alkali consumption required to obtain the best results was determined. It was found that carboxylic esterdisperse dyes containing an azo pyridone structure showed good dyeing performance and alkali-clearable properties onpolyester fibers. In addition, in hydrolyzate recovery, BaCl2 (salting out) can be used instead of acidification to recover thedye hydrolyzate, which has good environmental benefits.

      • Radiosensitivity Enhancement by Arsenic Trioxide in Conjunction with Hyperthermia in the EC-1 Esophageal Carcinoma Cell Line

        Cui, Yan-Hui,Liang, Hai-Jun,Zhang, Qing-Qin,Li, Si-Qing,Li, Xiao-Rui,Huo, Xiao-Qing,Yang, Qing-Hui,Li, Wei-Wei,Gu, Jian-Fa,Hua, Qin-Liang,Lu, Ping,Miao, Zhan-Hui Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4

Objective: To explore the effect on radiosensitivity of arsenic trioxide ($As_20_3$) in conjunction with hyperthermia on the esophageal carcinoma EC-1 cell line. Method: Inhibition of EC-1 cell proliferation at different concentrations of $As_20_3$ was assessed using the methyl thiazolyl blue colorimetric method (MTT method), with calculation of $IC_{50}$ value and choice of 20% of the $IC_{50}$ as the experimental drug concentration. Blank control, $As_20_3$, hyperthermia, radiotherapy group, $As_20_3$ + hyperthermia, $As_20_3$ + radiotherapy, hyperthermia + radiotherapy and $As_20_3$ + hyperthermia + radiotherapy groups were established, and the cell survival fraction (SF) was calculated from flat panel colony forming analysis, and fitted by the 'multitarget click mathematical model'. Flow cytometry (FCM) was used to detect changes in cell apoptosis and the cell cycle. Results: $As_20_3$ exerted inhibitory effects on proliferation of esophageal carcinoma EC-1 cells, with an $IC_{50}$ of 18.7 ${\mu}mol/L$. After joint therapy of $As_20_3$ + hyperthermia + radiotherapy, the results of FCM showed that cells could be arrested in the $G_2$/M phase, and as the ratio of cells in $G_0/G_1$ and S phases decreased, cell death became more pronounced. Conclusion: $As_20_3$ and hyperthermia exert radiosensitivity effects on esophageal carcinoma EC-1 cells, with synergy in combination. Mechanistically, $As_20_3$ and hyperthermia mainly influence the cell cycle distribution of EC-1 esophageal carcinoma cells, decreasing the repair of sublethal damage and inducing apoptosis, thereby enhancing the killing effects of radioactive rays.

        량최정(Cui-Jing Liang),방호열(Ho-Yeol Bang) 한국무역연구원 2017 무역연구 Vol.13 No.4

China’s own domestic market has attracted many countries which are on the verge of completing the process of internationalization. There is a need to understand the important factors when customers are buying products and the basic rules for purchasing. But we find that such researches are few. Previous consumer theories are generally aimed at Western countries and developed countries. The purpose of this study therefore is to test whether the previous theoretical research is also applicable to the Chinese market. From the standpoint of the enterprise, consumer innovation is the most important reason for purchasing intention. This paper aims to explain the many essential differences between China and the West and other developed countries, such as its social system and cultural environment and that the products chosen in this paper are intelligent machines, whose characteristics are that the product life is short and is prone to faster replacement. The more innovative consumers will buy intelligent products compared to conservative products. The purchase of intelligent machine products reflects the innovative. Finally, this paper examines the impact of innovation on the buying intentions for consumers in China and South Korea

Effects of In-Situ BaB6/Al Composite Inoculant on the Mechanical and Corrosion Behavior of Al–7Si–0.3Mg Alloy

        Yingguang Liang,Chunxiang Cui,Hongtao Geng,Lu Liu,Sen Cui,Shichao Yang 대한금속·재료학회 2023 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.29 No.4

In this work, as an inoculant, in-situ BaB6/Al composites was fabricated and used to refine the α-Al dendrites and modify theeutectic Si of A356.2(Al–7Si–0.3Mg) alloy. BaB6/Al ingot and ribbon composites mainly contain two phases, α-Al and BaB6. In BaB6/Al ribbons, nano-size BaB6ceramic particles exist and disperse uniformly which help to better exert the inoculanteffect in A356.2 alloy. YS, UTS, EL and HV of B2 alloy are 36.3%, 18.3%, 46.4% and 20.8% higher than the base alloy (B0),respectively. The ductile fracture characteristics are more obvious. Moreover, B2 alloy shows the best corrosion resistance. Aland BaB6form a clear, stable and well matched interface, so BaB6particles can act as the heterogeneous nucleation of α-Aland refine the A356.2 alloy. Furthermore, the combined of free micro-alloying elements Ba and B in BaB6/Al compositespromote the twins formation, which change the eutectic Si to fine fibrous and granular shape.

      • Prognostic Value of C-Reactive Protein in Esophageal Cancer: a Meta-analysis

Zheng, Tian-Liang,Cao, Ke,Liang, Cui,Zhang, Kai,Guo, Hai-Zhou,Li, De-Ping,Zhao, Song Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.19

Background: The classical inflammatory biomarker, C-reactive protein (CRP), has been identified to be related to progression of esophageal cancer. Some research showed that elevated pretreatment serum CRP indicated a poor prognosis, but results have been inconsistent. Materials and Methods: We searched the Medline, Embase and the Cochrane Central Search Library for suitable studies and a meta-analysis of eleven (1,886 patients) was conducted to examine the relationship between elevated serum CRP level and overall survival (OS) in esophageal cancer cases. Moreover, correlation analyses were conducted to assess links between pretreatment serum CRP level and tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage as well as T, N, M grade, respectively. Results: The pooled analysis showed that elevated pretreatment serum CRP level was significantly associated with poorer overall survival (HR 2.09, 95%CI 1.52-2.87, p<0.01). Subgroup analyses were conducted by "country", "cut-off value", "treatment" and "number of patients", and no single factor could alter the result. Elevated pretreatment serum CRP was significantly correlated with more advanced TNM stage and T, N, M grade respectively. Conclusions: Elevated pretreatment serum CRP levels are associated with poorer prognosis in esophageal cancer patients, and could serve as a useful biomarker for outcome prediction.
