Three-Dimensional Porous Collagen/Chitosan Complex Sponge for Tissue Engineering

Kim, Sung Eun,Cho, Yong Woo,Kang, Eun Jung,Kwon, Ick Chan,Lee, Eunhee Bae,Kim, Jung Hyun,Chung, Hesson,Jeong, Seo Young The Korean Fiber Society 2001 Fibers and polymers Vol.2 No.2

A three-dimensional, porous collagen/chitosan complex sponge was prepared to closely simulate basic extracellular matrix (ECM) constitutes, collagen and glycosaminoglycan. The complex sponge was prepared by a lyophilization method and had the regular network with highly porous structure, suitable for cell adhesion and growth. The pores were well interconnected, and their distribution was fairly homogeneous. The complex sponge was crosslinked using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl aminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) and N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) to increase its boilogical stability and enhance its mechanical properties. The crosslinking medium has a great effect on the inner structure of the sponge. The homogeneous, porous structure of the sponge was remarkably collapsed in an aqueous crosslinking medium. However, the morphology of the sponge remained almost intact in a water/ethanol mixture crosslinking milieu. Mechanical properties of the collagen/chitosan sponge were significantly enhanced by EDC-mediated crosslinking. The potential of the sponge as a scaffold for tissue engineering was investigated using a Chinese hamster ovary cell (CHO-K1) line.

Exploring Nurses Perceptions of Nursing Home Care in South Korea: A Qualitative Study

        Cho Eunhee,Kim Hyejin,Chang Soo Jung,Kim Hyang,Kim Jeongah 한국노인간호학회 2020 노인간호학회지 Vol.22 No.2

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe nurses perceptions of nursing services provided to nursing home residents, facilitators and challenges of providing care for these residents, and the need to improve the quality of care in the nursing home setting. Methods: Data were collected through semi-structured, audio-recorded interviews with 19 nurses from six nursing homes in South Korea from February to June 2015. A thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Five themes emerged: resident- and family-centered care as quality care, the importance of registered nurses in providing quality care, the importance of collaborating with care workers and resident s families, needs for nursing-home facility-level support for quality care, and needs for national policy for quality care. Conclusion: To improve the quality of care in nursing homes requires organizational and policy endeavors to increase the number of nurses per shift, provide systematic education for care workers, and develop strategies for collaboration with care workers and families. Nursing-home facility-level support and national policy are also required to meet the complex healthcare needs of nursing home residents with multiple chronic conditions.

      • I’M WATING FOR ‘IT’: ON THE PSYCHOLOGY OF STOCKPILING POINTS

Eunhee Cho,Jihyun Jin 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2016 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2016 No.7

Loyalty programs are one of the most widely used strategy to promote sales and manage consumer relationship. According to Stourm, Bradlow, and Fader (2015), loyalty programs are divided into two types: non-linear programs and linear programs. Of these two programs, linear loyalty programs are increasingly expanding thanks to the development of digital technology. However, it is doubtful whether the findings of previous researches investigating non-linear loyalty programs also hold true for linear loyalty programs. Our study aims to investigate what induces consumers to stockpile or use their points in linear loyalty programs. This is particularly important because it seems that consumers really have no economic incentive to stockpile points in such programs. They are not rewarded for their “stockpiling” behavior- the amount of points accumulated for 1 dollar remains the same regardless of whether a consumer has already accumulated 100 points or 10000 points. The present research shows that in linear loyalty programs, consumers stockpile points just for the sake of “it”. That is, our studies show that the degree to which consumers perceive their effort to invest until they reach certain point level (goal) to be high or low influences consumers’ stockpiling decision. Specifically, when consumers expect that they have to invest greater effort, they are more likely to accumulate points compared to when they expect they don’t have to invest a lot of effort. In the main study, we show that this effect was mediated by consumers’ anticipation utility. Also, we found an interesting phenomenon that shows even when a certain point level is not obviously given consumers still set their own goals and calculate their effort needed to reach the goal.
