      • Regulatory Mechanisms of Annexin-Induced Chemotherapy Resistance in Cisplatin Resistant Lung Adenocarcinoma

        Adenocarcinoma of lung has high incidence and a poor prognosis, woith chemotherapy as the main therapeutic tool, most commonly with cisplatin. However, chemotherapy resistance develops in the majority of patients during clinic treatment. Mechanisms of resistance are complex and still unclear. Although annexin play important roles in various tumor resistance mechanisms, their actions in cisplatin-resistant lung adenocarcinoma remain unclear. Preliminary studies by our group found that in cisplatin-resistant lung cancer A549 cells and lung adenocarcinoma tissues, both mRNA and protein expression of annexins A1, A2 and A3 is increased. Using a library of annexin A1, A2 and A3 targeting combined molecules already established by ourselves we found that specific targeting decreased cisplatin-resistance. Taken together, the underlined effects of annexins A1, A2 and A3 on drug resistance and suggest molecular mechanisms in cisplatin-resistant A549 cells both in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, the study points to improved research on occurrence and development of lung adenocarcinoma, with provision of effective targets and programmes for lung adenocarcinoma therapy in the clinic.

      • A Detection Framework of Malicious Code Based on Multi-Classifiers Ensemble

        Malicious code detection is one of the important missions of malicious code analysis. Current researches on the detection of malicious code mostly focused on single classifier, whereas the single classifier is not suitable for the detection based on features of different types. We utilized multi-classifiers ensemble based on fuzzy integral to improve the accuracy of the detection framework. A framework based on the Choquet fuzzy integral was proposed to fuse the analysis results of the base classifiers with different features. And the genetic algorithm was used to obtain the fuzzy measure. Finally, the result of Choquet fuzzy integral was compared to a threshold predefined to determine the maliciousness of binary code. Experiment showed that the framework proposed in this paper could be used to determine the maliciousness of binary code more accurately.

        BMB Reports : Poly(ADP-ribose) protects vascular smooth muscle cells from oxidative DNA damage

        Vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) undergo death during atherosclerosis, a widespread cardiovascular disease. Recent studies suggest that oxidative damage occurs in VSMCs and induces atherosclerosis. Here, we analyzed oxidative damage repair in VSMCs and found that VSMCs are hypersensitive to oxidative damage. Further analysis showed that oxidative damage repair in VSMCs is suppressed by a low level of poly (ADP-ribosyl)ation (PARylation), a key post-translational modification in oxidative damage repair. The low level of PARylation is not caused by the lack of PARP-1, the major poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase activated by oxidative damage. Instead, the expression of poly(ADP-ribose) glycohydrolase, PARG, the enzyme hydrolyzing poly(ADP-ribose), is significantly higher in VSMCs than that in the control cells. Using PARG inhibitor to suppress PARG activity facilitates oxidative damage-induced PARylation as well as DNA damage repair. Thus, our study demonstrates a novel molecular mechanism for oxidative damage-induced VSMCs death. This study also identifies the use of PARG inhibitors as a potential treatment for atherosclerosis.         Blast-Resistance and Damage Evaluation of Concrete Gravity Dam Exposed to Underwater Explosion: Considering the Initial Stress Field

        There is an increasing concern on the vulnerability of concrete gravity dams under blast loads. To a better evaluation of the blast-resistance, the effect of the initial stress field is taken into consideration herein. Firstly, a fluid-solid coupling numerical model is established to investigate the blast-resistance of concrete gravity dams. The numerical results indicate that the initial stress field has non-neglectable effect on the shock wave propagation, blast vibration, and failure mode of concrete gravity dams. The damage of dam base may be overestimated without the consideration of initial stress field. Moreover, a parametric study are carried out for further investigations of the dynamic responses and damage properties under various explosion scenarios (explosive charge, detonation depth, and standoff distance). With the consideration of the initial stress field, it can be concluded that the dam head nearest the explosive source is the weakest part, and the safety of the dam base is another important consideration, which may lead to severe dam-break floods. At last, a new method is proposed and recommended to evaluate the blast resistance of the whole concrete gravity dam, where the blast-induced vibration and penetration depth of cracks are suggested for the dam crest and dam base, respectively.

      • Prediction of protein-protein interactions between viruses and human by an SVM model

        <P><B>Background</B></P><P>Several computational methods have been developed to predict protein-protein interactions from amino acid sequences, but most of those methods are intended for the interactions within a species rather than for interactions across different species. Methods for predicting interactions between homogeneous proteins are not appropriate for finding those between heterogeneous proteins since they do not distinguish the interactions between proteins of the same species from those of different species.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>We developed a new method for representing a protein sequence of variable length in a frequency vector of fixed length, which encodes the relative frequency of three consecutive amino acids of a sequence. We built a support vector machine (SVM) model to predict human proteins that interact with virus proteins. In two types of viruses, human papillomaviruses (HPV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV), our SVM model achieved an average accuracy above 80%, which is higher than that of another SVM model with a different representation scheme. Using the SVM model and Gene Ontology (GO) annotations of proteins, we predicted new interactions between virus proteins and human proteins.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Encoding the relative frequency of amino acid triplets of a protein sequence is a simple yet powerful representation method for predicting protein-protein interactions across different species. The representation method has several advantages: (1) it enables a prediction model to achieve a better performance than other representations, (2) it generates feature vectors of fixed length regardless of the sequence length, and (3) the same representation is applicable to different types of proteins.</P>

        Language Research in International Business: An Author Co-citation Analysis

        국제 비즈니스(IB) 연구 분야의 언어 관련 연구가 급증하고 있으며, 현재 많은 학자들이 언어를 중요한 테마의 하나로 다루고 있다. 국제 비즈니스(IB) 영역에서 언어와 관련된 연구가 증가하고는 있으나, 연구 주제가 가지고 있는 본연의 복잡성을 경험적 측면과 이론적 측면에서 개념화를 하기 위한 실질적인 도전에 직면해 있는 상황이다. 이에 국제 비즈니스(IB)의 언어와 관련한 연구방법에 대하여 문헌분석방법 등을 적용한 새로운 방법을 제안하는 바이다. 이는 학문 간의 경계를 뛰어넘는 언어의 고유 특성을 고려하여 타학문 간의 연계성을 가지고 있는 이론의 시각을 통해 국제 비즈니스(IB) 영역의 언어에 대하여 좀 더 심도 있는 이해와 연구 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구는 국제 비즈니스(IB) 분야의 주요 논문 222편(1975년~2016년)에 대하여 문헌분석을 진행하였다. 그 결과 전통적인 문헌 분석방법에 비해 좀 더 심도 있는 분석 결과를 얻을 수 있었으며, 언어에 대한 정치적·구조적·문화적 이해 세 가지의 논점을 발견하였다. 본 세 가지의 논점은 16개 국제 비즈니스(IB) 학회지의 “언어에 대한 연구방향”을 비교분석하여, 타 연구 분야의 연구 방향과의 유사성을 확인하고 후속 연구의 방향을 제시하였다. The number of articles regarding language in international business (IB) research fields has rapidly increased, and many scholars now consider language an important research topic in these fields. Despite the increased study of language in IB fields, scholars continue to be faced with substantial challenges for empirically and theoretically conceptualizing the complexity of this research theme. Thus, we recommend that studies regarding language in IB adopt new methodologies such as bibliometric methods. In addition, language studies should transcend disciplinary boundaries and draw from and integrate various theories from other disciplines such as communication to gain a more profound understanding of language in international business. Our bibliometric study of 222 articles published in the top international business journals from 1975 to 2016 permits deeper analyses than traditional literature reviews. We identify three main research trends: the political view of language, the instrumental view of language and the cultural view of language. In addition, we compared the research trends of language in IB journals with that of 16 communication journals to determine whether similarities exist between the research trends of IB and other research fields. In addition, we suggest which topics should be analysed in future IB studies.

        A quick, accurate and general ultra performance liquid chromatography method for evaluating the quality of enological tannins

        Commercial enological tannins from variousorigins have been widely used in modern wine making. Inorder to investigate the diverse quality of tannin products, aquick, accurate and simple UPLC method was developed,which could simultaneously determine 11 principle characteristiccomponents of hydrolysable tannins and condensedtannins. The optimum resolution of the tannins wasachieved on a Waters Acquity UPLC-BEH C18 column(2.1 mm 9 50 mm, 1.7 lm) at 280 nm with gradient elution. The method was validated to achieve desired specificity,linearity, precision, accuracy and stability. Thedeveloped method was successfully applied to 30 commercialenological tannins from different origins for theirquality evaluation. The 30 tannin samples were qualitativelydistinguished into hydrolysable, condensed or mixturetannins, and quantificationally classified into fourlevels of excellent, good, fair and poor products. Themethod could be used for quick evaluating the quality ofenological tannins in practical use.

      • The Composition-Tunable Polydiacetylenic Complex Films: Conformational Change upon Thermal Stimulation and Preferential Interaction with Specific Small Molecules

        <P>Polydiacetylenic complex films were prepared using 10,12-pentacosadiynoic acid (PCDA) and para-xylenediamine (<I>p</I>XDA) upon acid-base interactions. The thermochromatic reversibility of the complex films was modulated by changing the mixed molar ratio (3 : 1, 2 : 1, and 1 : 1) of the two molecules. The corresponding conformational changes of the complex films were studied by ex situ FTIR analysis upon thermal stimulation for the first time. In addition, the binding specificities of <I>α</I>-, <I>β</I>-, and <I>γ</I>-cyclodextrins (CDs) with the films were studied, where the <I>α</I>-CDs can induce stronger red fluorescent emission of the films. These fundamental results may be useful for platforms that use these polydiacetylenic complex films as optoelectronic devices or chemical/biological sensors.</P>

        Research progress of defective MoS2 for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

        The potential application of MoS 2 as a potential H 2 precipitation photocatalyst has received widespread attention and is considered a promising alternative to precious metal cocatalysts due to its richness and low cost. However, the catalytic active center of MoS 2 is only along the edge of the MoS 2 layer. Both theoretical and experimental studies have shown that defect engineering can increase the active site of MoS 2 and has superior activity in catalytic reactions. Therefore, this review describes the nature, defect types, and preparation of defective MoS 2 . Due to the recombination of MoS 2 and semiconductor has specifi c interface characteristics, Schottky heterojunctions can provide accelerated charge separation and lower Schottky barriers for photocatalytic applications, they are eff ective photocatalysts. Therefore, the preparation of the defect MoS 2 -supported semiconductor photocatalyst and its application in the photocatalytic water splitting reaction are also introduced. This article’s profound understanding of defects can consolidate basic photocatalysis theory and provide new insights for the rational design of satisfactory defect engineering photocatalytic materials.
