Lanthanide(III)-Doped Magnetite Nanoparticles
De Silva, Channa R.,Smith, Steve,Shim, Inbo,Pyun, Jeffrey,Gutu, Timothy,Jiao, Jun,Zheng, Zhiping American Chemical Society 2009 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.131 No.18
<P>Nearly monodisperse lanthanide-doped magnetite nanoparticles were obtained by thermally decomposing a mixture of Fe(acac)(3) and Ln(acac)(3) (acac = acetylacetonate; Ln = Sm, Eu, Gd) in the presence of passivating surfactants. Magnetic studies revealed room-temperature ferromagnetic behaviors of these doped nanoparticles, distinctly different from those of the undoped parent magnetite or the doped nanoparticles prepared by a coprecipitation method.</P>

Drug induced liver injury (DILI) is a global issue and acetaminophen (APAP) is considered as the main cause of this. Due to increasing incidents of DILI, current study attempted to investigate an alternative but better role of terazosin (alpha-adrenergic blocker) in APAP-induced acute liver injury in an animal model using New Zealand rabbits. APAP (1 g/kg of body weight) was given to New Zealand rabbits either with or without terazosin (0.5 mg/kg) and serum was collected after 4 h. Serum alanine transaminase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and ferritin level were determined to analyze the liver functioning of treated rabbits. Furthermore, total cholesterol (TC), total lipids (TL), high-density lipoproteins (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglycerides (TG) levels were estimated to find any change in lipid profile of the treated animals. Moreover, the urea and creatinine levels assayed the actual renal functionality. To identify any modification in gene expression, qPCR of cytochrome P2E1 (CYP2E1) was performed. Terazosin in combination with APAP enhanced liver functioning by reducing the levels of liver injury markers viz. ALP and ALT, while lipid profile was also lowered by down regulation of TC, TL, LDL and TG with enhanced HDL levels. It caused significant down regulation of expression level of CYP2E1. It is concluded that terazosin has better effects induced on the recovery of normal liver functioning, by improving the liver profile, lipid profile and renal functioning both at tissue and molecular levels.
2D Inverse Problem in a Distributed Parameter System
Said Rachidi,Rafik Channa,Asma Karama 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2013 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.11 No.6
In this paper, we present a numerical solution for an inverse heat problem to estimate 2D space-wise coefficient in a parabolic system describing heat transfer. The inverse problem is recast into an optimization problem solved with a conjugate gradient method. This approach use the non linear optimization formulation by minimizing a cost function taking into account both the measured outputs of the system and the outputs calculated by means of the model. The solution is performed by using the free finite element software FreeFem. Numerical example is carried out to check the validity of the proposed method.

For survival of human beings clean water is an essential commodity whereas contamination in drinking water threatens to mankind. The main cause of water contamination is social and development activities of human being along with increasing population. The community in the study area has acute shortage of drinking water along with about 40 to 60% has no access to safe drinking water. This study indicates drinking water quality of two major sources of coastal belt of Karachi one is supplied by Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB) as tap water and the other through groundwater. The physicochemical analysis was carried out by following the standard methods for checking the quality of drinking water. The analyzed results showed that the quality of groundwater was unfit as potable water. The most critical situation was observed as high level of contamination followed by high turbidity and increased salinity levels. TDS in surface water were found 12% above and TDS in groundwater was 20% below the National Drinking Water Quality Standards (NDWQS) of Pakistan as well as the permissible WHO drinking water quality guidelines.
Visual Cryptography Based on an Interferometric Encryption Technique
이상수,김수중,Jung-ChanNa,Sung-WonSohn,CheechangPark,Dong-HoanSeo 한국전자통신연구원 2002 ETRI Journal Vol.24 No.5
This paper presents a new method for a visual cryptography scheme that uses phase masks and an interferometer. To encrypt a binary image, we divided it into an arbitrary number of slides and encrypted them using an XOR process with a random key or keys. The phase mask for each encrypted image was fabricated under the proposed phase-assignment rule. For decryption, phase masks were placed on any path of the Mach-Zehnder interferometer. Through optical experiments, we confirmed that a secret binary image that was sliced could be recovered by the proposed method.
Comprehensive Review on Kisspeptin and Its Role in Reproductive Disorders
Holly Clark,Waljit S.Dhillo,Channa N.Jayasena 대한내분비학회 2015 Endocrinology and metabolism Vol.30 No.2
Kisspeptin has recently emerged as a key regulator of the mammalian reproductive axis. It is known that kisspeptin, acting centrally via the kisspeptin receptor, stimulates secretion of gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH). Loss of kisspeptin signaling causes hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism in humans and other mammals. Kisspeptin interacts with other neuropeptides such as neurokinin B and dynorphin, to regulate GnRH pulse generation. In addition, a growing body of evidence suggests that kisspeptin signaling be regulated by nutritional status and stress. Kisspeptin may also represent a novel potential therapeutic target in the treatment of fertility disorders. Early human studies suggest that peripheral exogenous kisspeptin administration stimulates gonadotrophin release in healthy adults and in patients with certain forms of infertility. This review aims to concisely summarize what is known about kisspeptin as a regulator of reproductive function, and provide an update on recent advances within this field.

Electrospinning has become a popular method in fiber production due to increased interest in nanofibertechnology. It has been an efficient tool to prepare nanofibers for the treatment of waste water. It is a multipurpose, costeffectiveway of spinning that provides rapid formation of fibers. This study provides an easy and efficient method for thepreparation of a novel polyvinyl pyrrolidone titanium oxide (PVPT) composite by electrospinning for the treatment of leadcontaminated water. In this purpose, homogeneously distributed TiO2 powder and TiO2 included PVP nanofibers weresandwiched into PCL nano fibrous layers. SEM and FTIR analysis were used to witness the synthesis of composite and themorphology of the produced PVPT structures. Average fiber diameter for pure PVP was calculated as 143±35 nm while itwas found 114±31 nm for PVPT. Optimum removal was achieved at pH 8; agitation time 30 min, initial concentration of leadsolution 10 mg l-1 and adsorbent dosage 50 mg. The kinetics of adsorption was well described by second order kinetic modelwith the correlation coefficient 0.99. Monolayer adsorption capacity of PVPT was calculated as 33.33 mg g-1.

Studies on the biology, life table parameters, and functional response of the green lacewing, Chrysoperlacarnea, were carried out on papaya mealybug, Paracoccus marginatus, under laboratory conditions. Thehighest larval survival rate (90.50%) was recorded on S. cerealella and then on P. marginatus (85%). Thehighest life table values of C. carnea, lx (0.91), R0 (106.45), T (50 days), Mx (263), and rm (0.10), wererecorded on S. cerealella, whereas doubling time (6.95) and death rate (0.11) were recorded onP. marginatus. The 1st instar of C. carnea to both nymphal instars of P. marginatus exhibited type IIfunctional response, whereas the 2nd and 3rd instars exhibited type III functional response. Predatorssuch as C. carnea with type III functional response to P. marginatus are recognized as an effectual biologicalcontrol agent as it can efficaciously establish and manage the P. marginatus population.
