Una primera aproximación a las interferencias pragmáticas en estudiantes E/LE coreanos de niveles iniciales e intermedios

        ( Carlos Catalán Capdevila ) 한국스페인어문학회(구 한국서어서문학회) 2020 스페인어문학 Vol.0 No.96

This work aims to identify the main pragmatic interferences and highlight their relevance in its teaching in Spanish as a foreign language to Korean students. For this purpose, we have analyzed the theoretical aspects of pragmatics, making a brief theoretical review of the experts, including the linguists Gabriela Reyes and Mª Victoria Escandell, and taking as a reference the Curriculum Plan of the Cervantes Institute (PCIC). On the other hand, we have look at some forms completed by Korean students of Spanish language, as well as a survey to DELE teachers and examiners in the Republic of Korea, researching, for this reason, several works focused on the South Korean context.

Minimizing Residual Vibrations for Non-Zero Initial States:Application to an Emergency Stop of a Crane

Joaquim Maria Veciana,Salvador Cardona-Foix,Pau Català 한국정밀공학회 2013 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

This paper presents an approach to design command inputs for the reduction of residual vibrations in mechanical systems for nonzero initial states. The technique starts with the development of a standard input shaper in a second order oscillator, and adds the initial states of the system to the formulation. However, it is proven that the obtained input shaper does not guarantee a null residual vibration when it is convolved with any unshaped command. To obtain an analytically proven zero-vibration response, it is required to include the parameters that characterize the response of the system to a selected normalized unshaped command in the formulation. By introducing an appropriate processing time delay and by measuring the initial states using a feedback sensor, the proposed method has been applied in a real time scenario where an emergency stop of a crane is required, assuming that initially the payload is swaying. The analyzed systems are those that can be modeled as discrete linear ones and can be described with constant parameter motion equations. Experimental results show the efficacy of the developed method with its application to a scaled crane test platform.

Modified Adaptive Input Shaping for Maneuvering Cranes Using a Feedback MEM Gyroscope with Null Drift

Joaquim Maria Veciana,Salvador Cardona-Foix,Pau Català 한국정밀공학회 2015 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

This paper presents an adaptive algorithm to reduce residual vibrations when the feedback sensor used has null drift along the time. The adaptive approaches are useful to deal with large variations of the system parameters at each maneuver, such as it occurs in cranes. For the feedback sensor, the use of inertial measurement units such as Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) is increasingly extended because of their cost, size, robustness and power consumption. However, the effectiveness of the adaptive input shaping algorithms is compromised because of this drift, which is a commonly raised issue in this kind of devices. The study presented in this manuscript focuses on the development of an automatic compensation of this drift to obviate frequent calibrations. It is based on a non-asymptotic algebraic identification technique, which does not require initial conditions and has a short convergence time. This study uses the Zero-Vibration (ZV) input shaper technique, and the null drift is added to the algorithm as a parameter to be identified. The proposed method is particularized for single maneuvers of cranes with a gyroscope as feedback sensor, in a real time scenario. Experimental results show the efficacy of the method on a scaled crane test platform.

Prognostic Factors and Decision Tree for Long-Term Survival in Metastatic Uveal Melanoma

        Daniel Lorenzo,María Ochoa,Josep Maria Piulats,Cristina Gutiérrez,Luis Arias,Jaume Català,María Grau,Judith Peñafiel,Estefanía Cobos,Pere Garcia-Bru,Marcos Javier Rubio,Noel Padrón-Pérez,Bruno Dias,Jo 대한암학회 2018 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.50 No.4

Purpose The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the existence of a bimodal survival pattern in metastatic uveal melanoma. Secondary aims were to identify the characteristics and prognostic factors associated with long-term survival and to develop a clinical decision tree. Materials and Methods The medical records of 99 metastatic uveal melanoma patients were retrospectively reviewed. Patients were classified as either short ( 12 months) or long-term survivors (> 12 months) based on a graphical interpretation of the survival curve after diagnosis of the first metastatic lesion. Ophthalmic and oncological characteristics were assessed in both groups. Results Of the 99 patients, 62 (62.6%) were classified as short-term survivors, and 37 (37.4%) as long-term survivors. The multivariate analysis identified the following predictors of long-term survival: age  65 years (p=0.012) and unaltered serum lactate dehydrogenase levels (p=0.018); additionally, the size (smaller vs. larger) of the largest liver metastasis showed a trend towards significance (p=0.063). Based on the variables significantly associated with long-term survival, we developed a decision tree to facilitate clinical decision-making. Conclusion The findings of this study demonstrate the existence of a bimodal survival pattern in patients with metastatic uveal melanoma. The presence of certain clinical characteristics at diagnosis of distant disease is associated with long-term survival. A decision tree was developed to facilitate clinical decision-making and to counsel patients about the expected course of disease.

A Method to Estimate Occupational Health and Safety Costs in Construction Projects

        Eugenio Pellicer,Gloria I. Carvajal,M. Carmen Rubio,Joaquín Catalá 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.18 No.7

This paper presents the results of a research project carried out in Spain that aims to develop a method that let employers to assess, during the design phase, the occupational health and safety costs of a specific construction project. This method classifies costs in four categories: insurance costs, prevention costs, accident costs, and recovery of costs. Labor accident data were obtained from 1990 to 2007 for the entire Spanish construction industry, and these data were subsequently homogenized and exploited. A mathematical model was created for computing each cost category. This method allows employers and project managers to estimate aprioristically the cost incurred as a result of occupational health and safety during the project, based on tangible values such as the construction project budget or the work schedule, as well as statistical data. An application to this method in a case study illustrated that the occupational health and safety costs for that construction project came to approximately 5% of the total cost of the budget.

Intensive care unit professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain: social and work-related variables, COVID-19 symptoms, worries, and generalized anxiety levels

        Fernando J. García-Hedrera,Fernanda Gil-Almagro,F. Javier Carmona-Monge,Cecilia Peñacoba-Puente,Patricia Catalá-Mesón,Lilian Velasco-Furlong 대한중환자의학회 2021 Acute and Critical Care Vol.36 No.3

Background: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 outbreak has been identified as a pandemic and global health emergency. It presents as a severe acute respiratory disease. The rapid dissemination of the disease created challenges for healthcare systems and forced healthcare workers (HCWs) to deal with many clinical and nonclinical stresses. The aim of our research is to describe work conditions, symptoms experienced by HCWs, worries about contagion, and generalized anxiety symptoms and compare those findings across regions in Spain. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted using an online survey. Critical care units throughout Spain were included. The sample comprised HCWs working in intensive care units from March to May 2020. We assessed work variables, physical symptoms, worries about contagion, and anxiety (generalized anxiety disorder-7 questionnaire). Results: The final sample comprised 448 surveys. Among the respondents, 86.9% (n=389) were nursing professionals, and 84.8% (n=380) were women. All participants cared for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients during the study period. Workload during the pandemic in Madrid was judged to be higher than in other regions (P<0.01). The availability of personal protective equipment was found to be higher in Cataluña. The most frequently experienced symptom was headaches (78.1%). Worries about self-infection and the possibility of infecting others received mean scores of 3.11 and 3.75, respectively. Mean scores for generalized anxiety levels were 11.02, with 58.7% of the professionals presenting with generalized anxiety syndrome during the assessment. Conclusions: In this study, we found high levels of anxiety among HCWs caring directly for COVID-19 patients, which could produce long-term psychological alterations that still need to be assessed.

Embedding quasi-static time series within a genetic algorithm for stochastic optimization: the case of reactive power compensation on distribution systems

        Juan M. Lujano-Rojas,Ghassan Zubi,Rodolfo Dufo-López,José L. Bernal-Agustín,José L. Atencio-Guerra,João P. S. Catalão 한국CDE학회 2020 Journal of computational design and engineering Vol.7 No.2

This paper presents a methodology for the optimal placement and sizing of reactive power compensation devices in a distribution system (DS) with distributed generation. Quasi-static time series is embedded in an optimization method based on a genetic algorithm to adequately represent the uncertainty introduced by solar photovoltaic generation and electricity demand and its effect on DS operation. From the analysis of a typical DS, the reactive power compensation rating power results in an increment of 24.9% when compared to the classical genetic algorithm model. However, the incorporation of quasi-static time series analysis entails an increase of 26.8% on the computational time required.

Buckling analysis of partially embedded pile in elastic soil using differential transform method

Catal, Seval,Catal, Hikmet Huseyin Techno-Press 2006 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.24 No.2

The parts of pile, above the soil and embedded in the soil are called the first region and second region, respectively. The forth order differential equations of both region for critical buckling load of partially embedded pile with shear deformation are obtained using the small-displacement theory and Winkler hypothesis. It is assumed that the behavior of material of the pile is linear-elastic and that axial force along the pile length and modulus of subgrade reaction for the second region to be constant. Shear effect is included in the differential equations by considering shear deformation in the second derivative of the elastic curve function. Critical buckling loads of the pile are calculated for by differential transform method (DTM) and analytical method, results are given in tables and variation of critical buckling loads corresponding to relative stiffness of the pile are presented in graphs.

Catal, Seval Techno-Press 2014 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.52 No.5

The parts of semi-rigid connected and partially embedded piles in elastic soil, above the soil and embedded in the soil are called the first region and second region, respectively. The upper end of the pile in the first region is supported by linear-elastic rotational spring. The forth order differential equations of both region for critical buckling load of partially embedded and semi-rigid connected pile with shear deformation are established using small-displacement theory and Winkler hypothesis. These differential equations are solved by differential transform method (DTM) and analytical method and critical buckling loads of semirigid connected and partially embedded pile are obtained, results are given in tables and graphs are presented for investigating the effects of relative stiffness of the pile and flexibility of rotational spring.

APPLICATIONS OF JACK'S LEMMA FOR CERTAIN SUBCLASSES OF HOLOMORPHIC FUNCTIONS ON THE UNIT DISC

Catal, Batuhan, ornek, Bulent Nafi Korean Mathematical Society 2019 대한수학회논문집 Vol.34 No.2

In this paper, we give some results on ${\frac{zf^{\prime}(z)}{f(z)}}$ for the certain classes of holomorphic functions in the unit disc $E=\{z:{\mid}z{\mid}<1\}$ and on ${\partial}E=\{z:{\mid}z{\mid}=1\}$. For the function $f(z)=z^2+c_3z^3+c_4z^4+{\cdots}$ defined in the unit disc E such that $f(z){\in}{\mathcal{A}}_{\alpha}$, we estimate a modulus of the angular derivative of ${\frac{zf^{\prime}(z)}{f(z)}}$ function at the boundary point b with ${\frac{bf^{\prime}(b)}{f(b)}}=1+{\alpha}$. Moreover, Schwarz lemma for class ${\mathcal{A}}_{\alpha}$ is given. The sharpness of these inequalities is also proved.
