Clothing purchase behavior and the Canadian household life cycle
Anne-Marie Germain,Serge Carrier,Miche`le Beaudoin 한국마케팅과학회 2014 Journal of Global Fashion Marketing Vol.5 No.2
The first intention of this research is to test ifWells and Gubar’smodel (1966) of consumer behavior, based on the life cycle, still explains the Canadian population’s consumption behavior. A second objective, if warranted, is to determine the possibility to segment the Canadian population based on life cycles with the aim of explaining garment/apparel consumption. Using the Survey of Household Spending from Statistics Canada (2009), this article analyses total clothing expenditures and their subcategories of expenses for women and girls, men and boys, and children. Each expense is analyzed using two different data: (1) gross amount of money spent annually and (2) percentage of the category on household total spending. The three hypotheses of this research are validated, confirming (H1) the non-representativeness of Wells and Gubar’s model; (H2) the importance of integrating single households in the life-cycle model since their purchase behaviors are significantly different from those of traditional households; (H3) the possibility to segment based on life-cycle criteria to better understand Canadian realities.
The Implementation of ChatGPT-assisted Writing Instruction in ESL/EFL Classrooms
황규홍,Heywood, Damian,Carrier, Joseph 새한영어영문학회 2023 새한영어영문학 Vol.65 No.3
This article explores integrating AI tools like ChatGPT into university-level EFL writing instruction. It discusses several potential uses of ChatGPT in writing instruction, including brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing. For brainstorming, ChatGPT can be used to generate ideas and prompts for students. For drafting, it can provide sentence structures and pre-writing activities that guide students to compose more complex and engaging constructions. For revision, it can help students avoid grammatical and syntactic errors, avoid inadvertent plagiarism, and analyze sentence structures to improve clarity, concision, and coherence. For editing, it can proofread the work for grammatical errors, and provide guidance on formatting and citation styles. It appears that implementing AI tools in ways that benefit students is a complex and difficult task for teachers, but they will continue to have a significant impact on higher education.

School sport provides a structured setting for teaching life skills. Although the research has focused mainly on coaches, sport psychology consultants (SPCs) can also foster positive development in student-athletes. The objective of this study was to examine the experiences of SPCs in teaching life skills development and transfer to student-athletes in sport-study programs specific to high school settings. A basic qualitative study consistent with a constructivist paradigm was used. Semi-structured interviews were held with seven SPCs employed in a sport-study program. First, results revealed that all SPCs held a holistic philosophy and aimed for student-athletes’ positive development. Second, SPCs incorporated some life skills development and transfer strategies into their interventions (e.g., workshops, group discussions). Third, SPCs encountered certain challenges in teaching life skills development and transfer, and particularly in following up on life skills transfer and working with other stakeholders (e.g., psychoeducators, social workers). Despite the SPCs’ efforts to teach life skills development and transfer, the results highlight the need for better training in effective interventions.

Sinha, Arvind,Martin, Elizabeth M.,Lim, Ki-Taek,Carrier, Danielle Julie,Han, Haewook,Zharov, Vladimir P.,Kim, Jin-Woo Korean Society for Agricultural Machinery 2015 바이오시스템공학 Vol.40 No.4
Background: Cellulose is a ubiquitous, renewable and environmentally friendly biopolymer, which has high promise to fulfil the rising demand for sustainable and biocompatible materials. Particularly, the recent progress in the synthesis of highly crystalline cellulose-based nanoscale biomaterials, namely cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs), draws significant attention from many research communities, ranging from bioresource engineering, to materials science and engineering, to biological and biomedical engineering to bionanotechnology. The feasibility of harnessing CNCs' unique biophysicochemical properties has inspired their basic and applied research, offering much promise for new biomaterials with diverse advanced functionalities. Purpose: This review focuses on vital issues and topics on the recent advances in CNC-based biomaterials with potential, in particular, for bionanotechnology and biological and biomedical engineering. The challenges and limitations of CNC technology are discussed as well as potential strategies to overcome them, providing an essential source of information in the exploration of possible and futuristic applications of the CNC-based functional "green" nanomaterials. Conclusion: CNCs offer exciting possibilities for advanced "green" nanomaterials, driving innovative research and development in a wide range of fields, including biological and biomedical engineering.

In this paper, an approach on the dynamic rollover characteristics has been introduced and explained using some of the latest information from NHTSA. A new NCAP test has been announced by NHTSA including Static Stability Factor and Fish-Hook test which is a dynamic test for the prediction of dynamic rollover propensity. From 2004, a new star rating on rollover propensity results of new cars has been issued by NHTSA to US customer. Until now the rating is an only reference data for the purchasing process of customer. Basically, it is not a regulation item of car makers, but information for the selecting their own cars. This rating is an index for the rollover risk for each vehicle. In the near future, this rating may be a critical data for the sales of cars in US, especially, for SUV. Therefore, we have to understand the status of rollover related research in the world and have to prepare with the change of market requirements and information of customer. This dynamic rollover related topic is a research area of vehicle dynamics parts before crash and rollover. The star rating on the rollover is based on the huge rollover crash information and vehicle basic dimension like as tread and height of center of gravity data. Also, a dynamic test result has been adopted as a scaling factor for the compensation of static criteria for the decision making on the rollover propensity. The start point on this approach for rollover related topic is the exact measuring basic dimensions and the clear understanding of rollover mechanics based on vehicle dynamics. We have to make a development strategy for the consideration of rollover at the early design stage before the major freezing. Finally, basic rollover mechanics, parameters of dynamic rollover, strategy on rollover mechanics, and the state-of-the-art of dynamic rollover related topics are introduced in this paper.

Based on ROC curve analysis, a NT-pro BNP of 100 was deemed the most relevant cutoff value to predict primary outcome with Youden's index=131.84. In sequential Cox models, a model based on clinical data and resting echocardiography variables (χ2 =6.87) was improved by NT-proBNP (χ2 =13.9) and presence of CR in ESE (χ2 =20.8; <I>p</I> =0.0002).</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>In asymptomatic moderate to severe or severe degenerative MR and preserved LVEF, the presence of CR in ESE and NT-proBNP provide important incremental clinical determinants.
