Word final and intervocalic glottalised /t/ replacement in Estuary English: Variety of Essex
Camilo André,s B. Carvajal 경희대학교 언어정보연구소 2016 언어연구 Vol.33 No.2
Carvajal, Camilo Andrés B. 2016. Word final and intervocalic glottalised /t/ replacement in Estuary English: Variety of Essex. Linguistic Research 33(2), 193-204. The realisation of /t/ as a glottal stop [ʔ] is a phenomenon described as occurring in word medial or final position (Docherty, 2010; Fabricius, 2002; Przedlacka, 2002; Roach, 1973). In English, sociolinguistic studies and phonological corpora (Schleef, 2013; Tagliamonte & Temple, 2005) have tried to frame and predict the context of glottal stops, since it is perceived as a phenomenon of change which is an index of membership to the Cockney or Estuary English, different from the variety of London. We explored a set of tokens containing glottalisation of the alveolar stop segment /t/ from a recorded corpus of naturally occurring data (British reality TV show The Only Way is Essex) in order to predict instances of glottal replacement. Main findings suggest that both onset or coda position are insufficient variables to determine the occurrence of [ʔ], but stress does allow a better calculation for contexts of glottalisation replacement. The present analysis expands prior findings in the literature by involving syllabic boundaries and stress to determine the maintenance of the alveolar feature in all studied samples, as well as to support former predictions that glottalised /t/ emerges in syllable final or intervocalic contexts relying on pure articulatory grounds. The realisation of /t/ as a glottal stop [?] is a phenomenon described as occurring in word medial or final position (Docherty, 2010; Fabricius, 2002; Przedlacka, 2002; Roach, 1973). Main findings suggest that both onset or coda position are insufficient variables to determine the occurrence of [?], but stress does allow a better calculation for contexts of glottalisation replacement. Novus-io: An Internet of Things Platform for Academic Projects
( Camilo Lozoya ),( Alberto Aguilar-gonzalez ),( Antonio Favela-contreras ),( Arturo Zamora ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2018 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.12 No.12
Internet of things (IoT) is based on a global dynamic information network with cloud services where a great number of devices (things) exchange data to provide added-value services and products. There are several commercial and open source IoT platforms available in the market to connect devices to internet; however, they have cost and operational constraints that make them not suitable for academic projects. In this work, an IoT platform, known as Novus-io, is introduced in order to support academic projects for undergraduate students. With this platform and proper training, undergraduate students from different majors (not only from information technology and electronics) are capable to upgrade their school projects with IoT functionalities. The objective of this approach is to provide to any undergraduate student skills and knowledge on IoT, so they will be prepared, in their imminent step toward professionalism, to understand the relevance of digital services in today´s world.

Background: Revision anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructions are usually complex owing to previous tunnels. The objective of this study is to report the results of a revision ACL reconstruction technique with a tibial tunnel performed from the anterolateral plateau associated with an anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstruction. Methods: Patients with at least two ACL reconstructions that failed and who had significant enlargement and confluence of tunnels in the medial tibial plateau and underwent revision ACL reconstruction associated with ALL reconstruction with the tibial tunnel for the ACL performed from the lateral plateau between 2017 and 2019 were evaluated. All patients were evaluated by physical examination, International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC), and Lysholm functional scales. Results: Six patients who underwent this surgical procedure were evaluated. All patients were sports practitioners and presented a grade 3 pivot shift. The mean age was 28.5 ± 8.2 years, and the mean follow-up time was 34.1 ± 12.8 months. No patient had a new graft rupture, but three (50%) had grade 1 pivot shift. Four patients had minor complications with no clinical impact on the final result. All except one patient were able to return to pre-injury type of sports, at a mean time of 14.6 ± 2.3 months after surgery. Conclusion: The anterolateral tibial tunnel technique using an Achilles tendon allograft for revision ACL reconstruction after multiple failures associated with an ALL reconstruction showed good results and no major complications. The anterolateral tunnel can be considered a good alternative in cases of medial tibial confluence or significant enlargement of the medial tunnels in re-revision procedures.
Molecular diversity of the VP2 of Carnivore protoparvovirus 1 (CPV-2) of fecal samples from Bogotá

Background: Carnivore protoparvovirus 1, also known as canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2), is the main pathogen in hemorrhagic gastroenteritis in dogs, with a high mortality rate. Three subtypes (a, b, c) have been described based on VP2 residue 426, where 2a, 2b, and 2c have asparagine, aspartic acid, and glutamic acid, respectively. Objectives: This study examined the presence of CPV-2 variants in the fecal samples of dogs diagnosed with canine parvovirus in Bogotá. Methods: Fecal samples were collected from 54 puppies and young dogs (< 1 year) that tested positive for the CPV through rapid antigen test detection between 2014–2018. Molecular screening was developed for VP1 because primers 555 for VP2 do not amplify, it was necessary to design a primer set for VP2 amplification of 982 nt. All samples that were amplified were sequenced by Sanger. Phylogenetics and structural analysis was carried out, focusing on residue 426. Results: As a result 47 out of 54 samples tested positive for VP1 screening, and 34/47 samples tested positive for VP2 980 primers as subtype 2a (n = 30) or 2b (n = 4); subtype 2c was not detected. All VP2 sequences had the amino acid, T, at 440, and most Colombian sequences showed an S514A substitution, which in the structural modeling is located in an antigenic region, together with the 426 residue. Conclusions: The 2c variant was not detected, and these findings suggest that Colombian strains of CPV-2 might be under an antigenic drift.

In the indeterminate chronic period of Chagas disease (ChD) the treatment has not been conclusive, because the serological negativization requires many years. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of nifurtimox (NF) in the treat- ment of chronic ChD in prolonged follow-up by serological techniques of indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) IgG comparing 2 groups of patients, treated and non treated. Mann-Whit- ney test was performed for ELISA and IFA, with significant difference between the groups (P < 0.05). IgG levels were lower in individuals treated compared with untreated patients, indicating chemotherapeutic efficacy in prolonged follow-up.
