        Competition among Firms in Digital Convergence era

        Digital convergence which means the convergence of industry areas related to digital technologies is an important phenomenon in business, which will decide the fates of firms in the near future. The only firms which can create synergy effects from digital convergence are expected to be the winners in the fierce competition of digital convergence era. In our analysis, we examine the strategy of an integrated firm which has businesses in two different industry areas which are related to each other. By using a game theoretical model, we show how the integrated firm can win over two single separated firms which have business in only one industry area each by leveraging the two businesses the integrated firm has. In our welfare analysis, we also show that this convergence may be even beneficial to consumers, which seems counter?intuitive to social concerns about anti?competitive behaviors by integrated firms. Additionally, we study comparison between industry convergence and product convergence.

      • Long Tail in Daily Deal Industry

        The renowned Pareto rule of 80/20 has been challenged in the electronic marketplace with the emergence of long tail economy. Mass customization on top of the Internet infrastructure is expected to explain these changes of product concentration. In this paper, we empirically analyzed the micro-transactional data of a Groupon-like daily deal web site to identify the changes of product and customer concentration. The results show the long tail pattern aligned with the previous research on the e-commerce literature on the long tail. We find that the notification setting on email or SMS about daily deal influences the patterns of sales concentration.

        Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) has become a very popular business area to study as it represents new patterns of collaboration and social interaction in the virtual world. In this study, we empirically raise the issues of identity fraud in MMORPGs. In principle, the online game classification system controls the scope of users’ activities with regard to the level of age appropriateness. However, the results from this study cast doubt on the effect of the current classification system in that distinctive behavior differences were not found to exist from one age group to another. Specifically, the econometric and multivariate analyses show that the behaviors of the group whose ages are around 40 is very similar to those of the group whose ages are under 14.

        Information Asymmetry Issues in Online Lending : A Case Study of P2P Lending Site

        Peer-to-Peer(P2P : 개인간) 금융은 인터넷 오픈마켓을 통해 이뤄지는 다수의 대출자와 대부자 간의 신용 대출 서비스이다. P2P 금융은 전세계적으로 빠른 성장을 보이고 있으며, 미소금융(Microfinance)의 성장에 대한 관심이 증폭된 후, 인터넷 대부시장은 사회적 신용대여의 대안으로 부각되고 있다. 국내에서도 제도권금융에서 대출을 받을 수 없는 저신용등급자들이 증가하면서 기존 제도권금융을 이용할 수 없는 금융 소외계층의 대출 서비스의 대안으로 급부상하고 있다. P2P 금융은 인터넷을 통한 신용 대출 및 대출자 속성 상, 채무 불이행 위험에 노출될 가능성이 높음에도 불구하고 이자율에 비해 대손 위험성이 상당히 낮은 편으로, 대출자는 신용도 보다 낮은 이자율로 자금을 확보할 수 있고, 투자자는 타 재테크에 비해 높은 수익을 얻을 수 있는 장점을 지녔다. 본 연구는 P2P 금융을 개념화하고 국내외 P2P 금융 사이트 중 대표 사이트를 분석한 결과를 통해 P2P 금융 서비스의 논점을 정리하고 연구 주제로서의 가능성을 검토한다. 특히, 기존 금융기관들이 대출 서비스 제공 시 발생하게 되는 정보 비대칭 문제를 P2P 금융 사이트에서 어떻게 적용되는지 논의한다. Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending is an open marketplace for loans not from bank but from individuals online. Financial transactions are facilitated directly between individuals (“peers”) without any intermediation of a traditional financial institution. A market study by renowned research company forecasts that P2P lending will grow very fast and a couple of P2P lending sites in Korea also are getting attentions by providing the alternative financial services. In P2P lending market, Lender will enjoy higher income generated from the loans in the form of interest than interest that can be earned by financial products provided by official financial institutions. Furthermore, lenders are able to decide who they would lend the money for themselves. Meanwhile, borrowers with low credit scores are able to finance their liquidity requirement with low cost and convenient access to the Internet. The objective of this paper is to introduce P2P lending and its issues of information asymmetry. We provide the insights from the case study of one of P2P lending sites in Korea and review the issues in P2P lending market as research topics. Specifically, information asymmetry issues in both traditional financial institutions and P2P lending are discussed.

        A Case Study on Mobile Web and Social Network Service in Digital Music Market : The New Management of NeowizBugs

        오늘날, 음악 서비스의 새로운 환경이 디지털 음악산업에 변화를 가져왔고. 다양한 형태의 음악 콘텐츠가 제공되고 있다. 따라서, 다양한 콘텐츠 확보가 독점적 경쟁 음악 시장에서 중요하다. 이러한 상황하에서, 웹 2.0은 다양한 소셜네트워크 환경을 제공하고, 소셜네트워크서비스는 기존의 정보중심 인터넷서비스와는 다른 인적관계를 중시한다. 모바일 소셜네트워크서비스는 모바일 기기사용이 증가함에 따라 사회적으로 이슈화 되고 있다. 네오위즈벅스는 음악 특성화된 소셜네트워크서비스인 세이클럽을 운영하는 네오위즈인터넷과 합병했다. 그리고 에스엠 엔터테인먼트와 콘텐츠관련 협약을 체결했다. 따라서, 통합법인은 확보된 디지털 콘텐츠와 소셜네트워크서비스를 연동시키는 비즈니스 모델을 확보, 운용하고 있다. 일반적으로 음악특화 소셜네트워크서비스는 광고기반 비즈니스 모델과 음악추천 시스템을 활용한다. 본 연구는 네오위즈벅스 사례를 소개함으로써, 웹 2.0, 모바일 소셜네트워크서비스, 스마트폰 등을 포함하는 유비쿼터스 환경에 알맞은 음악 유통사의 성공전략을 알아보고자 한다. The new environment of music service has brought changes in digital music industry. Today, various forms of music contents are presented in ubiquitous environments. Thus, securing various contents becomes very important in monopolistic competition of music market. Under the circumstance, web 2.0 provides a networking environment to form diverse relations. Social Network Service (SNS) is a service to emphasize people relation and is different from information-centered Internet service. And mobile SNS becomes popular as Smartphone rapidly increases. NeowizBugs merged with NeowizInternet managing Sayclub of a music-specified SNS site. And the firm confirms comprehensive contents by making ties with SM entertainment. Thus, the integration corporation secures and manages a new business model by linking digital contents with SNS. Generally, musicspecified SNS has advertisement business model and uses a recommend system utilizing the database of users. By introducing the case of NeowizBugs, this study tries to identify the success strategy of music distributors fitting ubiquitous environment including web 2.0, mobile SNS, Smartphone, etc.

      • 자율주행 차량을 위한 Full Redundancy MDPS 시스템 개발

        An autonomous vehicle is a vehicle that travels to a given destination by recognizing the surrounding environment without the driver’s intervention, judging the driving situation, and controlling the vehicle. In an autonomous driving vehicle, the MDPS system is a system that performs a steering function by receiving an operating command of an autonomous driving system that the vehicle judges and drives completely independently of the driver. The risk of accidents is very high in case of failure of the steering device in the autonomous driving stage 3 or more without obligation of the driver. Therefore, a Full Redundancy MDPS system that requires normal steering function even when MDPS system fails is needed. The control system of the Full Redundancy MDPS can produce a normal 100% output with a double designed motor each output 50%. If one of the dual designed control systems fails, it can generate 50% of the output, so the MDPS system can maintain the steering force even in case of failure. In this paper, we describe the redundant design of parts such as torque sensor, motor position sensor, motor winding and ECU for the development of Full Redundancy MDPS of autonomous vehicle that maintains the steering force even in case of failure. In addition to the performance in the single condition, we have applied the system through the actual vehicle and evaluated it.
