The potato has been used as a part of key staple foods in Korea. Recently, the demand for the potato tends to increase due to its nutritional quality, and the quantity of imports has rapidly been increasing. Contamination of seed potato by pathogens especially could cause a severe reduction of total production. In order to solve the problem, Korea Research Insistute of Bioscience and Biotechnology(KBIBB) developed the new commodity called a "potato microtuber". Before its production and distribution, researches on new commodity should be undertaken in many aspects, especially in terms of economic aspects. The main objectives of this study are to measure the economic value of the potato microtubers and to forecast its spreading effects and to examine the Contingent Valuation Method(CVM) could be accepted in the economic analysis for a new agricultural product, here in potato microtubers. Through the regression results, the consumer behavior analysis had performed for potential users of potato microtubers, and through the demand function derived by the consequence of functional relationship, consumer's surplus was estimated.

Modern biotechnology, specifically for the use of recombinant DNA(rDNA), has brought about a revolution in our ability to control and use life forms. Most of the world's leading countries view biotechnology as the key scientific and industrial discipline for the 21st century and are making all-out efforts for scientific and technological advance in the related fields. The impact of biotechnology on the nation's economy has been growing explosively as such diverse industries invested increasingly on the fruits of biotechnological research. However, such an impact could only be realized through concerted endeavours from the government to private sectors for guarantee of the successful technological advances in this scientific area. There are risks associated with every technology; the classical application of biotechnology has not been exempt. For example, the introduction of bio-tech to agriculture might be destroied the ecosystems. Therefore, to increase the research budgets by the government and private sectors, we need to identify the public attitudes and preference on the acceptance of bio-technology and on the potential economic value of it. For the study, we surveied 959 persons including students enrolled in college of agriculture, Chungnam National University. And to measure the economic value of biotechnology, we use the Contingent Valuation Method(CVM) which is considered as the new approaching method in the bio-technology field.

One of protection methods for computer internal data is to pursue data flow in program and to control its flow. In this thesis, we propose a mechanism which guarantees secure information flow in a program. By investigating security classes of all the variables in a statement and judging necessary condition for secure information flow, proposed model descriminates the program whether it is secure or not. Out model can be implemnted at language translation time, particularly semantic analysis phase, by pursuing security class transfer of each statement.

An attenuated classical swine fever virus (CSFV), Suri strain, is a variant derived from a vaccine virus, LOM strain. This study was performed to elucidate the molecular biologcal properties of CSFV Suri strain, and to obtain the basic data for molecular epidemiological approaches for the disease. The truncated form of gp55 gene without the C-terminal trasmembrane domain, in size of 1,023bp, was amplified by RT-PCR and sequenced by dye terminator cyclic sequencing method, and inserted into BamHI site of pAcGP67B baculovirus vector, establishing a cloned pAcHEG plasmid. By the nucleotide sequences determined, 341 amino acid sequences were predicted. As compard the nucleotide and amino acid sequences of gp55 of Suri with the various CSFV, Suri strain showed the high homology over 99.1% with ALD and LOM strains, but comparably the lower homology with Alfort and Brescia. In comparison of amino acid sequence in variable domain of gp55 protein, the similar tendency of homology was observed. In hydrophobicity analysis, all of four CSFV strains revealed the analogous patterns of hydrophobicity. The numbers and locations of N-glycosylation site and cysteine residuse in gp55 were analyzed, those of Suri strain being coincident with ALD and LOM strains. The results suggest that gp55 in Suri strain has the high similarity to those in ALD and LOM strains in terms of the nucleotide and amino acid sequences and the functional properties of gp55 protein.

In a previous report, we demonstrated that ginsenoside Rc, one of major ginsenosides from Panax ginseng, enhances γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptorA (GABAA)-mediated ion channel currents. However, little is known about the effects of ginsenoside metabolites on GABAA receptor channel activity. The present study investigated the effects of ginsenoside metabolites on human recombinant GABAA receptor (α₁β₁γ2s) channel activity expressed in Xenopus oocytes using a two-electrode voltage clamp technique. M4, a metabolite of protopanaxatriol ginsenosides, more potently inhibited the GABA-induced inward peak current (IGABA) than protopanaxadiol (PPD), a metabolite of PPD ginsenosides. The effect of M4 and PPD on IGABA was both concentration-dependent and reversible. The half-inhibitory concentration (IC??) values of M4 and PPD were 17.1±2.2 and 23.1±8.6 μM, respectively. The inhibition of IGABA by M4 and PPD was voltage-independent and non-competitive. This study implies that the regulation of GABAA receptor channel activity by ginsenoside metabolites differs from that of ginsenosides.

In a previous report, we demonstrated that ginsenoside Rc, one of major ginsenosides from Panax ginseng, enhances ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid (GABA) $receptor_A$ ($GABA_A$)-mediated ion channel currents. However, little is known about the effects of ginsenoside metabolites on $GABA_A$ receptor channel activity. The present study investigated the effects of ginsenoside metabolites on human recombinant $GABA_A$ receptor (${\alpha}_1{\beta}_1{\gamma}_{2s}$) channel activity expressed in Xenopus oocytes using a two-electrode voltage clamp technique. M4, a metabolite of protopanaxatriol ginsenosides, more potently inhibited the GABA-induced inward peak current ($I_{GABA}$) than protopanaxadiol (PPD), a metabolite of PPD ginsenosides. The effect of M4 and PPD on $I_{GABA}$ was both concentration-dependent and reversible. The half-inhibitory concentration ($IC_{50}$) values of M4 and PPD were 17.1${\pm}$2.2 and 23.1${\pm}$8.6 ${\mu}M$, respectively. The inhibition of $I_{GABA}$ by M4 and PPD was voltage-independent and non-competitive. This study implies that the regulation of $GABA_A$ receptor channel activity by ginsenoside metabolites differs from that of ginsenosides.
