        To investigate a horizontal windrose and the mixing height in Masan coastal area, a local atmospheric flow and the concentration of air pollutants were analyzed by abserved data from AWS, airsonde and air sampler. The land-sea breeze model and the ISCST2 model of U. S. EPA(Environmental Protection Agency) were used to predict the concentration of air pollutants such as SO2 and TSP. As a result, during spring the principal wind direction in the Masan region is mainly represented by windrose of the WNW and NW, which can be induced by land breeze and the SE and SSW of sea breeze even if weak wind speed. The mixing height during the measurement was marked with the range from 400 m(0900 LST) to 1450 m(1500 LST), and the height of an inverse layer was presented as the range from 30 m(2100 LST) to 150 m(0300 LST). It is very important to cosider the local wind field for the accurate diffusion and movement of air pollutants in coastal urban area. The atmospheric flow was simulated by the two-dimensional local wind model upon considering the orographic characteristics such as land-sea contrast, mountain valley and urban building. The result of air quality simulated by ISCST2 support that the dispersion pattern of the pollutants in that area was followed as local circulation system in coastal urban area.

        양액내 염류농도 증가에 의한 상추뿌리의 마이크로솜 ATPase 활성증가

        염류장애에 의한 작물의 생육저해 원인을 밝혀내기 위하여 상추를 대조양액과 대조양액에 30 mM 및 50 mM KNO_3를 첨가하여 염류농도를 높인 양액 등 3가지 조건에서 재배하였으며, 이때 이들 양액의 EC는 각각 1.0, 4.5, 6.5 dS/m 이었다. 뿌리세포의 원형질막 및 액포막에 위치한 H^+-ATPase 활성은 각각에 특이적 저해제인 vanadate와 NO_3를 이용하여 측정하였다. 대조양액에서 재배한 상추 뿌리의 ATPase 활성은 356±1.5 nmol/min/mg protein이었으며, 30 mM과 50 mM KNO_3를 첨가한 양액에서는 활성이 대조활성에 비하여 각각 1.6배, 1.9배 증가하였다. 이것은 상추가 염류장애시 뿌리조직의 ATPase 활성증가를 통하여 적응함을 보여주는 것이며, 활성증가는 주로 액포막 H^+-ATPase 활성증가에 의해 이루어짐을 확인하였다. 마이크로솜 ATPase 활성에 미치는 여러 가지 중금속 이온들의 효과를 측정하였으며, 중금속 이온은 100 μM 농도에서 종류에 따라 활성을 10~25% 저해하였다. 특히, Cu^(2+)는 주로 액포막 H^+-ATPase 활성을 저해함을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과로부터 상추는 염류집적 환경에서 뿌리의 ATPase 활성, 특히 액포막에 위치한 H^+-ATPase 활성을 증가시켜 적응하며, Cu^(2+)는 주로 액포막 H^+-ATPase 활성을 저해하는 성분으로 뿌리의 ATPase 활성변화 연구에 유용하게 이용될 수 있음을 확인하였다. In order to investigate the mechanism of growth inhibition by salt stress, lettuces were grown hydroponically in three different nutrient solutions, normal and 30 mM or 50 mM KNO_3-added nutrient solutions, and the electrical conductivities of these solutions were 1.0, 4.5, and 6.5 dS/m, respectively. The activities of plasma and vacuolar H^+-ATPases in the root tissue of lettuce were measured by specific inhibitors, 100 μM vanadate and 50 mM No_3^-, respectively. Microsomal ATPase activity of lettuce grown in the normal nutrient solution was 356±1.5 nmol/min/mg protein. When lettuces were grown in 30 mM and 50 mM KNO_3-added nutrient solutions, total activities of microsomal ATPases were increased by 1.6 and 1.9 times, respectively, and the increases were mainly mediated by vacuolar H^+-ATPase. These results show that lettuces adapt themselves to salt-stressed condition by increasing the activities of H^+-ATPases. Effects of various heavy metal ions were investigated on the microsomal ATPases and various metal ions at 100 pM inhibited the activities by 10~25%. Cu^2+ showed the highest inhibitory effect on the vacuolar H^+-ATPase. These results suggest that lettuce increases the activities of root ATPases, specially that of vacuolar H^+-ATPase, in salt-stressed growth conditions and Cu^(2+) could be a useful tool to control the activity of vacuolar H^+-ATPase.

      • 재활승마의 효과에 대한 고찰

        이 연구는 승마 운동의 효과에 대한 객관적이고 구체적인 정보를 제공하기 위해 승마운동이 균형, 자세, 골밀도, 근력, 정서에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보았다. 최신 동향을 살펴보기 위해 90년대 이후의 자료만을 선택하여 승마운동, 승마치료, 재활승마 등 재활 승마와 관련된 키워드를 검색하고 승마운동을 통한 효과를 알아보기 위해 균형, 안정성, 골밀도, 근력 등의 연관 검색어를 함께 검색하였다. 그 결과 지속적인 승마운동은 균형 능력 향상을 위해 효과적인 운동이며 대퇴전자부와 대퇴경부의 좌우측, L3,L4의 골밀도를 향상시키고 승마에서만 발달될 수 있는 특수한 부위를 자극한다. 또한 재활승마를 통해 인지적, 사회적인 부분에 대해 눈에 띄는 향상을 기대할 수 있다. The purpose of this study was to provide information which objective and definite effect of horseback riding about balance, posture, bone mass, muscle strength, emotion. To search the newest trend, Studies for this literature review were sought which investigated the effect of HBRT, hippotherpay, therapeutic horseback riding since 1990. These literature searches were also linked to other descriptive terms. For example, balance, posture, bone mass, muscle strength, emotion. Continuos horseback riding therapy is effective exercise to improve balance ability and bone mass of femur trochanter, femur neck, lumbar 3-4. Also, horseback riding can expect to improve recognition and sociality.

        Effects of applying non-thermal plasma on combustion stability and emissions of NOx and CO in a model gas turbine combustor

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The effect of applying non-thermal plasma (NTP) (by adopting a dielectric barrier discharge) to a lean premixed model gas turbine combustor on flame stability and emissions of NOx and CO has been investigated experimentally by varying mixture nozzle exit velocity (<I>U</I> <SUB>0</SUB>) and equivalence ratio ( ∅ ) . The results showed that the existence of flame enhanced streamer intensity. The streamer intensity decreased as equivalence ratio deceased. Applying NTP to the combustor extended the lean flammable limit, and augmented the flame stability in a manner that the stable flame regime was extended to lower equivalence ratio and the regimes of lifted and oscillating flames are reduced. It was also found that it resulted in increase of NOx emission slightly (however, having a maximum of 10ppm) and reduction of CO emission significantly due to exalting complete burning. Nonetheless, with applying the NTP extending the lean flammable limit for the baseline case without it, an optimal range in ∅ existed, i.e. <30ppm for CO emission and ⩽10ppm for NOx at 0.600⩽ ∅ ⩽0.650. These results suggest that applying NTP to a gas turbine combustor should be a useful tool to simultaneously reduce both emissions of NOx and CO.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Applying NTP to a model gas turbine combustor is an original work. </LI> <LI> Applying NTP extends the lean flammable limit appreciably and enhances flame stability. </LI> <LI> Some optimal flame conditions to simultaneously fulfill a stringent regulation for NOx and CO emissions under applying NTP exist. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • Subclinical systemic and vascular inflammation detected by 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/ computed tomography in patients with mild psoriasis

        Background: Severe psoriasis is a systemic inflammatory disease involving major arteries and internal organs. However, it is not clear whether mild psoriasis increases the arterial inflammation and cardiovascular disease. Objectives: We aimed to investigate systemic inflammation using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) in patients with mild psoriasis. Methods: In a nested case-control study, FDG-PET/CT findings of 10 patients with mild chronic plaque psoriasis involving a body surface area of less than 5% were compared with those of 10 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. The degree of FDG uptake in the large arteries (ascending aorta, aortic arch, descending aorta, suprarenal abdominal aorta and infrarenal abdominal aorta,) and liver were analyzed using the maximum target-to-background ratios (TBR). Results: There were no significant demographic differences between the psoriasis patients and the control subjects. Patients with psoriasis showed higher maximum TBR than healthy controls in all examined arterial segments, with statistical significance reached in the suprarenal abdominal aorta, ascending thoracic aorta and infrarenal abdominal aorta, and in the liver. The “candy cane sign”, which represents arterial inflammation of the thoracic aorta, was noted upon PET in the majority of psoriasis cases. Conclusion: Mild psoriasis is associated with arterial and hepatic inflammation, which can be readily demonstrated by using FDG-PET/CT.
