Objectives: We investigated whether a mixture of the main component of pomegranate concentrated powder (PCP) with appropriate proportions of Eucommiae Cortex (EC) and Achyranthis Radix (AR) could act synergistically as an effective treatment for osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: In order to evaluate the effects of PCP, EC, and AR against OA, knee thicknesses, maximum extension angle of each knee, anti - inflammation effects, the transcript levels of chondrogenic genes mRNA expressions in femur and tibia articular cartilage (AC) with synovial membrane (SM) were analyzed. In addition, the histopathology and immunohistochemistry of the femur and tibia AC or SM were performed. Results: The surgically-induced OA signs in rats were significantly inhibited by 28 days of continuous treatment of PCP, EC and AR single formulas, and PCP with EC:AR mixed formulas. Especially, PCP with EC:AR 4:1, 2:1 and 1:1 mixed formula treatment constantly showed significantly more favorable inhibitory activities, as compared with those of single formula of PCP, EC and AR treated rats. Conclusion: PCP and EC:AR 4:1 mixed formula showed similar OA refinement effects through potent anti-inflammatory pathways as compared with those of diclofenac treatment, and showed additional chondrocyte proliferating effects on the both femur and tibia AC.

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>Silibinin is the major active molecule of silymarin, the mixture of flavonolignans extracted from <I>Cirsium japonicum</I>. It has been used for the treatment of hepatitis and inflammation-related diseases. In the present study, the effects of silibinin on allergic inflammation and its signaling were investigated in the induced human mast cells.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Cell growth inhibition induced by silibinin was measured by MTS assay. Histamine release was measured by enzyme immunoassay. The tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-8 (IL-8) secreted protein levels and mRNA levels were measured by the ELISA assay and RT-PCR, respectively. The NF-κB promoter activity was examined by a luciferase assay.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Silibinin suppressed the growth of HMC-1 cells and also reduced the production and mRNA expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8. Moreover, silibinin inhibited the nuclear translocation of nuclear factor (NF)-κB through inhibition of the phosphorylation of IκBα and suppressed NF-κB transcriptional activity in stimulated HMC-1 cells.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Taken together, these results indicate that silibinin inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines through inhibition of NF-κB signaling pathway in HMC-1 human mast cells, suggesting that silibinin could be used for the treatment of mast cell-derived allergic inflammatory diseases.</P>
고 감속 차동 복합 유성기어 감속 시스템의 구조 안전성 분석

해상 물류 시스템 장비, 대형 산업 장비 및 건설 중장비의 높은 초기 기동 토크에 대응하기 위해 유압식 감속 시스템 모듈이 적용되고 있다. 감속 시스템의 구조는 회전력을 발생하는 유압 모터와 회전하는 구동 축을 감속하는 유압 브레이크, 그리고 회전력을 일정한 비율로 감속하고 동력을 전달하는 유성기어 감속기로 구성된다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 다단 유성기어 감속 방식에서 10%이상의 부품 수 감소와 5% 이상의 소형화 및 경량화가 가능한 차동 복합 유성 감속기를 제시하고 있으며 설계 조건으로 DNV Standard 2.22 규격을 적용하였다. 감속 시스템 기어 류에 대해 Lewis 와 Hertz 이론 기반의 굽힘 응력과 면압 응력을 산출하였고 상용 FEM 구조 해석 프로그램을 통해 구조적 안전성을 분석하였다. In order to cope with the high initial starting torque of marine logistics system equipment, large industrial equipment, and heavy construction equipment, hydraulic reduction system modules are being applied. The structure of the reduction system is composed of a hydraulic motor that generates rotational force, a hydraulic brake that decelerates the rotating drive shaft, and a planetary gear reducer that decelerates the rotational force at a constant rate and transmits power. In this study, a differential compound planetary reducer capable of reducing the number of parts by more than 10%, miniaturization and weight reduction by more than 5% in the conventional multi-stage planetary gear reduction method is proposed, and DNV Standard 2.22 standard is applied as a design condition. Bending stress and surface contact stress based on Lewis and Hertz theory were calculated for gears in the reduction system, and structural safety was analyzed through a commercial FEM structural analysis program.

Objectives : The objective of present study is to evaluate anti-arthritic effects of dried pomegranate concentrate powders (PCP), Eucommiae Cortex aqueous (EC) and ethanolic (ECe) extracts, Achyranthis Radix aqueous (AR) and ethanolic (ARe) extracts on the primary cultured rat articular chondrocytes. Methods : MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium Bromide) assay was performed cytotoxic effect of test substances. In addition, anti-inflammatory effects were also observed on the lipopolysaccaride (LPS) treated chondrocytes through prostaglandin $E_2\;(PGE_2)$ production and 5-lipoxygenase (LPO) activities, and inhibitory effects on metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 activities were observed on the recombinant human interleukin $(rhIL)-1{\alpha}$ treated chondrocytes with their extracellular matrix (ECM) related mRNA expressions - collagen type II, SOX9 and aggrecan. Results : As results, ECe and ARe showed obvious cytotoxicity against primary cultured rat articular chondrocytes at a dose level of 10 mg/ml, respectively. However, no obvious cytotoxic effects of PCP, EC and AR were demonstrated at a dose level of 10 mg/ml, on the primary cultured rat articular chondrocytes. In addition, treatment of LPS $50{\mu}g/ml$ induced significant increases of $PGE_2$ contents and 5-LPO activities indicating inflammatory responses of the primary cultured rat articular chondrocytes, and also decreases of cell viabilities, increases of MMP-2 and MMP-9 activities with decreases of extracellular matrix (ECM) related collagen type II, SOX9 and aggrecan mRNA expressions were observed by treatment of $rhIL-1{\alpha}$ 50 ng/ml, suggesting damages on the primary cultured rat articular chondrocytes and related ECM degradations. However, these inflammatory responses and related ECM degradations were inhibited by pretreatment of all test substances, in order of PCP > ECe > ARe > EC > AR, and $rhIL-1{\alpha}$ induced chondrocytes deaths are inhibited by treatment in order of PCP > EC > AR > ECe > ARe. Conclusions : Taken together, it is expected that mixed formulation of PCP as main components with appropriate proportion of EC and AR as additional components will be achieved a potent alternative medicinal food for osteoarthritis.

This paper proposes a sensor-based path planning method which utilizes fuzzy logic and neural network for obstacle avoidance of a mobile robot in uncertain environments. In order to acquire the information about the environment around the mobile robot, the ultrasonic sensors mounted on the front of mobile robot are used. The neural network, whose inputs are preprocessed by ultrasonic sensor readings, informs the mobile robot of the situation of environment in which mobile robot is at the present instant. Then, according to the situation class, the fuzzy rules are fired to make a decision on the mobile robot action. In addition, this method can be implemented real time since the number of fuzzy rules used to avoid the obstacle is small. Fuzzy rules are constructed based on the human reasoning and tuned by iterative simulations. The effective of the proposed avoidance method is verified by series of simulations.
