Dental Panoramic Radiographic Indices as a Predictor of Osteoporosis in Postmenopausal Saudi Women

        Ayman Zaky Elsamanoudy,Madiha Mahmoud Gomaa,Rabab Mohammed Feteih,Najlaa Mohammed AlAmoudi,Ayman Zaky Elsamanoudy,Mohammed Ahmed Hassanien,Mohammed-Salleh M. Ardawi 대한골대사학회 2018 대한골대사학회지 Vol.25 No.3

Background: Many oral presentations of osteoporosis-a bone metabolic disease-were recorded. Thus, we aimed to assess panoramic radiomorphometric indices with bone mineral density (BMD) values among Saudi postmenopausal women and its importance in the prediction of osteoporosis. Methods: A total of 431 Saudi women were enrolled in this study. Panoramic radiographs were obtained at the time of BMD measurement. Subjects were fatherly classified into; normal BMD, osteopenia, and osteoporosis groups. Serum follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25[OH]D) and intact-parathyroid hormone were measured. Moreover, serum creatinine, calcium, and phosphate, together with serum osteocalcin (s-OC), procollagen type I N-terminal propeptide (s-PINP) and cross-linked C-terminal telopeptide of type 1 collagen (s-CTX) were measured. Receiver-operator curve (ROC) curve analysis for use of mandibular cortical width (MCW), panoramic mandibular index (PMI), and maxillary-mandibular ratio (M/M ratio) to differentiate women with osteoporosis or osteopenia from normal subjects was calculated. Cut off values of 4.6 at T score <-1 and 4.1 at T score ≤-2.5 were used. Results: Body mass index is significantly low in the osteoporotic group. There is no significant difference in serum levels of LH, E2, calcium, phosphate, and 25(OH)D between the studied groups. Moreover, s-OC, C-terminal propeptide of procollagen type I, s-PINP, s-CTX, and urinary-CTX are significantly higher in osteoporosis than normal and osteopenia groups. ROC curve analysis revealed that MCW and PMI showed significant data while M/M ratio is non-significant. Conclusions: It could be concluded that MCW as an important panoramic radiographic parameter can be used for prediction and diagnosis of osteoporosis in postmenopausal Saudi women with low BMD.

      • Study of the dynamic behavior of porous functionally graded suspension structural systems using finite elements method

        Ayman E. Nabawy,Ayman M.M. Abdelhaleem,Soliman S. Ali-Eldin,Alaa A. Abdelrahman 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.45 No.5

In the context of the finite elements method, the dynamic behavior of porous functionally graded double wishbone vehicle suspension structural system incorporating joints flexibility constraints under road bump excitation is studied and analyzed. The functionally graded material properties distribution through the thickness direction is simulated by the power law including the porosity effect. To explore the porosity effects, both classical and adopted porosity models are considered based on even porosity distribution pattern. The dynamic equations of motion are derived based on the Hamiltonian principle. Closed forms of the inertia and material stiffness components are derived. Based on the plane frame isoparametric Timoshenko beam element, the dynamic finite elements equations are developed incorporating joint flexibilities constraints. The Newmark’s implicit direct integration methodology is utilized to obtain the transient vibration time response under road bump excitation. The presented procedure is validated by comparing the computational model results with the available numerical solutions and an excellent agreement is observed. Obtained results show that the decrease of porosity percentage and material graduation tends to decrease the deflection as well as the resulting stresses of the control arms thus improving the dynamic performance and increasing the service lifetime of the control arms.

Automatic Surface Matching for the Registration of LIDAR Data and MR Imagery

        Ayman Fawzy Habib,Rita Wai Ting Cheng,Eui-Myoung Kim,Edson Aparecido Mitishita,Richard Frayne,Janet Lenore Ronsky 한국전자통신연구원 2006 ETRI Journal Vol.28 No.2

Several photogrammetric and geographic information system applications such as surface matching, object recognition, city modeling, environmental monitoring, and change detection deal with multiple versions of the same surface that have been derived from different sources and/or at different times. Surface registration is a necessary procedure prior to the manipulation of these 3D datasets. This need is also applicable in the field of medical imaging, where imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can provide temporal 3D imagery for monitoring disease progression. This paper will present a general automated surface registration procedure that can establish correspondences between conjugate surface elements. Experimental results using light detection and ranging (LIDAR) and MRI data will verify the feasibility, robustness, and accuracy of this approach.

Epipolar Geometry of Line Cameras Moving with Constant Velocity and Attitude

        Ayman F. Habib,정수,Michel F. Morgan,Kyung-Ok Kim 한국전자통신연구원 2005 ETRI Journal Vol.27 No.2

Image resampling according to epipolar geometry is an important prerequisite for a variety of photogrammetric tasks. Established procedures for resampling frame images according to epipolar geometry are not suitable for scenes captured by line cameras. In this paper, the mathematical model describing epipolar lines in scenes captured by line cameras moving with constant velocity and attitude is established and analyzed. The choice of this trajectory is motivated by the fact that many line cameras can be assumed to follow such a flight path during the short duration of a scene capture (especially when considering space-borne imaging platforms). Experimental results from synthetic along-track and across-track stereo-scenes are presented. For these scenes, the deviations of the resulting epipolar lines from straightness, as the camera’s angular field of view decreases, are quantified and presented.

Control Channel Selection Techniques in Cognitive Radio Networks: A Comparative Performance Analysis

        Ayman Sabbah,Mohamed Ibnkahla,Omneya Issa,Bernard Doray 한국통신학회 2018 Journal of communications and networks Vol.20 No.1

Cognitive radio (CR) technology offers a promising solutionto the spectrum scarcity problem via dynamic spectrum access(DSA). Due to the nature of cooperative cognitive radio networks(CRNs), where two distinct networks are active simultaneously, asignificant amount of control messaging is required in order to coordinatechannel access, schedule sensing, and establish and releaseconnections. Efficient control plane messaging can be achieved bythe selection of an appropriate control channel (CC). Major selectionstrategies of CCs are categorized as either dedicated or dynamicstrategies. This paper studies the major potential techniquesfor selecting reliable CCs for coordination and information distributionin license-exempt (LE) bands. This involves determining thepotential and limitations of each technique in terms of availability, complexity, and robustness. We consider real-life scenarios includingan outdoor stadium and an indoor environment. Recommendationsare given for different situations.

The Impact of Irregular Auditing on Quality of Financial Reports

Ayman Mansour Khalaf ALKHAALEH,Ahmad MAREI 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.6

“Irregular auditing” are actions taken by an auditor during an engagement that reduces evidence-gathering effectiveness inappropriately. This study intended to study the effect of irregular auditing on the quality of financial reports. To accomplish the objective of this study, a descriptive methodology was utilized by employing a questionnaire comprising (64) samples of auditors and accountants in the Income and Sales Tax Department. After applying one-way analysis of variance of the relationship between variables, correlation coefficient and the coefficient of determination, and simple regression analysis, the study establishes that there is a significant effect of lowering the level of tests, choosing non-comprehensive samples, reducing the level of audit evidence and poor management of the audit process time on the quality of financial reports, from the perspective of auditors and accountants. Based on the consequences, it was concluded that accurate criteria must be well-defined for the sampling process and choosing the tests that must be trusted in the execution of the audit process. Moreover, the findings of this study suggest that auditors should be qualified on the audit evidence practice and set standards to decide the level of suitable audit evidence, providing material and motivations to auditors who avoid irregular audits, and regularly shaping fines for auditors who practice irregular audit.

Activated Carbon/Silver-Doped Polyurethane Electrospun Nanofibers: Single Mat for Different Pollutants Treatment

        Ayman Yousef,김학용,Nasser A. M. Barakat,TOUSEEFAMNA,Mohammad Ali Abdelkareem,라잔 우니탄 아페,Salem S. Al-Deyab 한국고분자학회 2012 Macromolecular Research Vol.20 No.12

Adsorption ability and antibacterial activity could be created in a single electrospun nanofiber mat. Activated carbon/silver-doped polyurethane electrospun nanofiber mats have been introduced as a novel multifunction nanostructural material. Production of the introduced mat could be achieved by electrospinning of a colloidal solution from polyurethane containing activated carbon nanoparticles and silver nitrate. The high electric field and the presence of N,N-dimethylformamide, which is used as a solvent, led to reduced silver precursor in the silver nanoparticles. The introduced mat revealed good adsorption ability toward methylene blue dye. The presence of silver nanoparticles resulted in good antibacterial activity for the introduced mat since a piece of the mat could completely eliminate Escherichia coli bacteria. Overall, according to the utilized physiochemical characterizations, the introduced mat can be used as a mask or filter media.
