        식민지배로 인해 더욱 심화된 서구 대중문화의 아프리카 지배와 인터넷 및 텔레비전과 같은 현대적 수단에 의해 강화된 아프리카 문화에 직면하여, 본 논문은 미래 세대에게 아프리카문화를 보존하고 전승하는 것의 중요성을 강조하고 있다. 아프리카 구전 지식의 가치와 이를문서로 보존해야 할 필요성에 대한 아마두 함파테 바의 생각에서 영감을 받아, 독서의 감소로인한 문제를 고려하여, 시청각 매체를 통한 아프리카 문화의 영속성에 대해 논의하고자 한다. 또한 코트디부아르에서 텔레비전 프로그램과 시리즈, 특히 WOZO 바캉스와 '인비저블' 시리즈의 역할과 영향력을 탐구하여 문화적, 사회적 영향을 분석하고자 한다. Face à la domination de la culture de masse occidentale en Afrique, exacerbée par la colonisation et renforcée par des moyens modernes tels qu'Internet et la télévision, ce texte souligne l'importance de préserver et de transmettre la culture africaine aux générations futures. Il s'inspire de la pensée d'Amadou Hampâté Bã sur la valeur des savoirs oraux africains et la nécessité de leur préservation écrite. La pérennisation de la culture africaine à travers les médias audiovisuels est discutée, en tenant compte des défis posés par la diminution de la lecture. Le texte explore également le rôle et l'influence des émissions de télévision et des séries en Côte d'Ivoire, en particulier WOZO Vacances et la série "Invisibles", en analysant leur impact culturel et social.

      • Characteristics of Incident Testicular Cancer in Lebanon - 1990-2015 Single Institutional Experience

        Background: Despite the fact that testicular cancer is a major health issue with its increasing incidence, very few studies have described its characteristics in the Middle East, particularly in Lebanon. Materials and Methods: We report in this paper a retrospective pilot study of the characteristics of testicular cancer in Lebanon. The demographic, epidemiologic and survival characteristics of 178 patients diagnosed between 1990 and 2015 at an oncology clinic affiliated to Hotel Dieu de France Hospital were analyzed. Results: The mean age at diagnosis was $32{\pm}10years$. The most prevalent testicular tumor was the germ cell type (GCT) (95.2%) of which non-seminomatous tumors (NST) were the commonest (64.7%). Most of our patients were diagnosed at an early stage. Lymph node spread affected most commonly the retroperitoneal region and distant visceral metastases occurred in 14.6%. All patients underwent orchiectomy with 67% receiving adjuvant treatment, mainly chemotherapy. After a median follow up of 2,248 days (75.9 months) 16 patients were reported dead. Two, five and ten-year overall survival rates were 96%, 94% and 89% respectively. The median overall survival rate was not reached. Conclusions: Despite being part of the developing world, demographic, epidemiologic and survival analyses of testicular cancer reported in our study are in line with those reported from developed countries and would allow us to extrapolate management plans from these populations.

      • Distribution of Testicular Tumors in Lebanon: A Single Institution Overview

        Background: Testicular tumors constitute a rare type of cancer affecting adolescents and young adults with recent reports confirming an increase in incidence worldwide. The purpose of this study was to estimate the epidemiological characteristics and histological subtypes of testicular tumors in the Lebanese population according to the WHO classification of testicular and paratesticular tumors. Materials and Methods: In this single institutional retrospective study, all patients diagnosed with a testicular tumor in Hotel-Dieu de France Hospital University in Beirut between 1992 and 2014 were enrolled. The age, subtype based on the 2004 WHO classification and body side of tumor were analyzed. Results: A total of two hundred and forty-four (244) patients diagnosed with a testicular tumor in our institution were included in the study. Two hundred and one patients (82.4% of all testicular tumors) had germ cell tumors (TGCT). Among TGCT, 50% were seminomatous tumors, 48% non-seminomatous tumors (NST) and 2% were spermatocytic seminomas. The NST were further divided into mixed germ cell tumors (63.9%), embryonic carcinomas (18.6%), teratomas (15.4%) and yolk sac tumors (2.1%). The mean age for testicular tumors was 32 years. The mean age for germ cell tumors was 31 years and further subtypes such as seminomatous tumors had a mean age of 34 years, 28 years in non-seminomatous tumors and 56 years in spermatocytic seminoma. Patients with right testicular tumor were the predominant group with 55% of patients. Three patients (1.2%) presented with bilateral tumors. Conclusions: The distribution of different subgroups and the mean age for testicular tumors proved comparable to most countries of the world except for some Asian countries. Germ cell tumors are the most common subtype of testicular tumors with seminomatous tumors being slightly more prevalent than non-seminomatous tumors in Lebanese patients.

        Dynamics of thick hygrothermal viscoelastic composite laminates through finite element method

        An uncoupled computational model for analyzing the hygrothermal dynamic response of composite laminates has been developed. The constitutive equations, expressed in an integral form, and involving relaxation moduli are adopted, to describe the non-aging hygrothermorheologically simple materials. A Prony series represents the relaxation moduli is exploited in order to derive a recursive relationship, and thereby eliminate the storage problem that arises when dealing with material possessing memory. The problem is formulated in a descritized variational form. Mindlin and higher order finite elements are employed for spatial descretization, while the Newmark average acceleration scheme is exploited for temporal descritization. The adopted recursive formula uses only the details of the previous event to compute the details of the current one. Numerical results of the displacement fields of both thin and thick viscoelastic laminates problems are discussed to show up the effectiveness of Mindlin and higher-order shear theories.

        Touches on Screen as New Signs in Blended Ways to Think Mathematically

        This study demonstrates how manipulations on the screen can play an important role in students’ cognitive development. Specifically, it analyzes Brazilian high school students solving a task concerning isometry in an environment designed to improve mathematics learning with touchscreen mobile devices. The data include videotapes, written answers, icon sheets, and screen recordings. Results suggest including touches on screen as a resource in the semiotic bundle. With the advancement of mobile technologies and the increase of online courses, a contribution of this study to the blended learning literature is investigating the design of learning environments that take touchscreen in task design and other instruction processes into account.

      • Dynamic analysis of porous functionally graded layered deep beams with viscoelastic core

        In this study, the dynamic behavior of functionally graded layered deep beams with viscoelastic core is investigated including the porosity effect. The material properties of functionally graded layers are assumed to vary continuously through thickness direction according to the power-law function. To investigate porosity effect in functionally graded layers, three different distribution models are considered. The viscoelastically cored deep beam is exposed to harmonic sinusoidal load. The composite beam is modeled based on plane stress assumption. The dynamic equations of motion of the composite beam are derived based on the Hamilton principle. Within the framework of the finite element method (FEM), 2D twelve –node plane element is exploited to discretize the space domain. The discretized finite element model is solved using the Newmark average acceleration technique. The validity of the developed procedure is demonstrated by comparing the obtained results and good agreement is detected. Parametric studies are conducted to demonstrate the applicability of the developed methodology to study and analyze the dynamic response of viscoelastically cored porous functionally graded deep beams. Effects of viscoelastic parameter, porosity parameter, graduation index on the dynamic behavior of porous functionally graded deep beams with viscoelastic core are investigated and discussed. Material damping and porosity have a significant effect on the forced vibration response under harmonic excitation force. Increasing the material viscosity parameters results in decreasing the vibrational amplitudes and increasing the vibration time period due to increasing damping effect. Obtained results are supportive for the design and manufacturing of such type of composite beam structures.

        Production of Bioactive Compounds with Antitumor Activity Against Sarcoma 180 by Pleurotus sajor-caju

        This work studied the influence of culture medium composition and pH on exopolysaccharide (EPS) production by Pleurotus sajor-caju and validates the antitumor activity of the produced EPSs and of the mycelial biomass (intracellular polysaccharides [IPSs]) against Sarcoma 180 (S180) cells. The effect of the initial concentrations of (NH4)2SO4, yeast extract and soy peptone on EPS production by P. sajor-caju was studied in shake flasks. A bioreactor was used to evaluate the pH values and the initial CaCO3 and glucose concentrations. Extracts of EPSs (PE1) and IPSs obtained through two different separation processes (PM1 and PM2) were tested on mice inoculated with S180 cells. A medium containing 2.5, 1.0, and 1.0 g/L of (NH4)2SO4, yeast extract and soy peptone, respectively, provided the highest EPS concentration (0.6 g/L). The use of pH 4.0, 1.0 g/L CaCO3 and 20 g/L initial glucose concentration enhanced EPS productivity (3.84 g/L per hour). The PE1 extract promoted the highest reduction of S180 growth (86%), followed by the PM2 extract (80%); growth reduction was doseindependent for both substances. This work provides information about culture medium and conditions that enhanced the production of extracellular polysaccharides by P. sajor-caju. The results can contribute to the search for new bioactive products bringing novel aspects to the medical and pharmaceutical areas.

        Behavior of a viscoelastic composite plates under transient load

        An efficient numerical algorithm for analyzing dynamic response of orthotropic viscoelastic composite laminates has been developed in the time domain. The integral form of the constitutive laws is exploited. Generalized Wiechert model is adopted to simulate the viscoelasticity of the structure Mindlin-Reissner plate theory is utilized in finite element formulation employing the consistent mass matrix. The proposed algorithm is incorporated in the framework of the finite element based on the displacement model. Newmark Constant average acceleration method is used for integration equation of motion. The developed recurrence formula permits the new time solutions to be evaluated using only previous time values. The developed solution technique is applied to orthotropic plate under two types of force,which are the step-pulse and sin-pulse force.
