Crossability among Modern Roses and Heterosis of Quantitative and Qualitative Traits in Hybrids

        Muhammad Nadeem,Adnan Younis,Atif Riaz,임기병 한국원예학회 2015 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.56 No.4

Nine divergent popular hybrid rose cultivars and 22 of their F1 hybrids were studied to determine the extent of crossability and heterosis effects for several quantitative and qualitative traits in the climatic conditions of Faisalabad, Pakistan. The percentage of pollen germination differed across cultivars. Gruss-an-Teplitz exhibited the maximum value for pollen germination (46.5%), followed by Autumn Sunset (38.9%). Iceberg, being triploid, presented the lowest percentage of germination. All cultivars exhibited a strong correlation between pollen germination percentages in the lab and crossing success under field conditions. The cultivar Handel showed remarkable fruit-set and crossing success. In contrast, the cultivar Iceberg exhibited very poor crossing success rates. The setting of hips after crossing was maximal in the crosses Handel × Louise Odier and Autumn Sunset × Casino (83% each). The number of seeds in a single hip varied among cultivars. The potential for heterotic and heterobeltiotic was also variable and showed contrasting performance between F1 progenies for various qualitative and quantitative traits. The parent cultivars and progenies were sorted into five major groups by cluster analysis based on phenotypic variation. Phenotypic and genotypic coefficients of variability and heritability percentages varied among all parent cultivars for all morphological traits.

Fall Detection System for the Elderly Based on the Classification of Shimmer Sensor Prototype Data

        Moiz Ahmed,Nadeem Mehmood,Adnan Nadeem,Amir Mehmood,Kashif Rizwan 대한의료정보학회 2017 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.23 No.3

Objectives: Falling in the elderly is considered a major cause of death. In recent years, ambient and wireless sensor platforms have been extensively used in developed countries for the detection of falls in the elderly. However, we believe extra efforts are required to address this issue in developing countries, such as Pakistan, where most deaths due to falls are not even reported. Considering this, in this paper, we propose a fall detection system prototype that s based on the classification on real time shimmer sensor data. Methods: We first developed a data set, ‘SMotion’ of certain postures that could lead to falls in the elderly by using a body area network of Shimmer sensors and categorized the items in this data set into age and weight groups. We developed a feature selection and classification system using three classifiers, namely, support vector machine (SVM), Knearest neighbor (KNN), and neural network (NN). Finally, a prototype was fabricated to generate alerts to caregivers, health experts, or emergency services in case of fall. Results: To evaluate the proposed system, SVM, KNN, and NN were used. The results of this study identified KNN as the most accurate classifier with maximum accuracy of 96% for age groups and 93% for weight groups. Conclusions: In this paper, a classification-based fall detection system is proposed. For this purpose, the SMotion data set was developed and categorized into two groups (age and weight groups). The proposed fall detection system for the elderly is implemented through a body area sensor network using third-generation sensors. The evaluation results demonstrate the reasonable performance of the proposed fall detection prototype system in the tested scenarios.

Study of Generalized Derivations in Rings with Involution

Mozumder, Muzibur Rahman,Abbasi, Adnan,Dar, Nadeem Ahmad Department of Mathematics 2019 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.59 No.1

Let R be a prime ring with involution of the second kind and centre Z(R). Suppose R admits a generalized derivation $F:R{\rightarrow}R$ associated with a derivation $d:R{\rightarrow}R$. The purpose of this paper is to study the commutativity of a prime ring R satisfying any one of the following identities: (i) $F(x){\circ}x^*{\in}Z(R)$ (ii) $F([x,x^*]){\pm}x{\circ}x^*{\in}Z(R)$ (iii) $F(x{\circ}x^*){\pm}[x,x^*]{\in}Z(R)$ (iv) $F(x){\circ}d(x^*){\pm}x{\circ}x^*{\in}Z(R)$ (v) $[F(x),d(x^*)]{\pm}x{\circ}x^*{\in}Z(R)$ (vi) $F(x){\pm}x{\circ}x^*{\in}Z(R)$ (vii) $F(x){\pm}[x,x^*]{\in}Z(R)$ (viii) $[F(x),x^*]{\mp}F(x){\circ}x^*{\in}Z(R)$ (ix) $F(x{\circ}x^*){\in}Z(R)$ for all $x{\in}R$.

Salinity Stress Resistance Offered by Endophytic Fungal Interaction Between Penicillium minioluteum LHL09 and Glycine max. L

( Khan Abdul Latif ),( Muhammad Hamayun ),( Nadeem Ahmad ),( Javid Hussain ),( Sang Mo Kang ),( Yoon Ha Kim ),( Muhammad Adnan ),( Dong Sheng Tang ),( Muhammad Waqas ),( Ramalingam Radhakrishnan ),( Y 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2011 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.21 No.9

Endophytic fungi are little known for their role in gibberellins (GAs) synthesis and abiotic stress resistance in crop plants. We isolated 10 endophytes from the roots of field-grown soybean and screened their culture filtrates (CF) on the GAs biosynthesis mutant rice line - Waito-C. CF bioassay showed that endophyte GMH-1B significantly promoted the growth of Waito-C compared with controls. GMH-1B was identified as Penicillium minioluteum LHL09 on the basis of ITS regions rDNA sequence homology and phylogenetic analyses. GC/MS-SIM analysis of CF of P. minioluteum revealed the presence of bioactive GA4 and GA7. In endophyte-soybean plant interaction, P. minioluteum association significantly promoted growth characteristics (shoot length, shoot fresh and dry biomasses, chlorophyll content, and leaf area) and nitrogen assimilation, with and without sodium chloride (NaCl)-induced salinity (70 and 140 mM) stress, as compared with control. Field-emission scanning electron microcopy showed active colonization of endophyte with host plants before and after stress treatments. In response to salinity stress, low endogenous abscisic acid and high salicylic acid accumulation in endophyte-associated plants elucidated the stress mitigation by P. minioluteum. The endophytic fungal symbiosis of P. minioluteum also increased the daidzein and genistein contents in the soybean as compared with control plants, under salt stress. Thus, P. minioluteum ameliorated the adverse effects of abiotic salinity stress and rescued soybean plant growth by influencing biosynthesis of the plant`s hormones and flavonoids.
