The Influence of Organizational External Factors on Construction Risk Management among Nigerian Construction Companies

Adeleke, A.Q.,Bahaudin, A.Y.,Kamaruddeen, A.M.,Bamgbade, J.A.,Salimon, Maruf Gbadebo,Khan, Muhammad Waris Ali,Sorooshian, Shahryar Occupational Safety and Health Research Institute 2018 Safety and health at work Vol.9 No.1

Background: Substantial empirical research has shown conflicting results regarding the influence of organizational external factors on construction risk management, suggesting the necessity to introduce a moderator into the study. The present research confirmed whether rules and regulations matter on the relationships between organizational external factors and construction risk management. Methods: Based on discouragement and organizational control theory, this research examined the effects of organizational external factors and rules and regulations on construction risk management among 238 employees operating in construction companies in Abuja and Lagos, Nigeria. A personally administered questionnaire was used to acquire the data. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling. Results: A significant positive relationship between organizational external factors and construction risk management was asserted. This study also found a significant positive relationship between rules and regulations and construction risk management. As anticipated, rules and regulations were found to moderate the relationship between organizational external factors and construction risk management, with a significant positive result. Similarly, a significant interaction effect was also found between rules and regulations and organizational external factors. Implications of the research from a Nigerian point of view have also been discussed. Conclusion: Political, economy, and technology factors helped the construction companies to reduce the chance of risk occurrence during the construction activities. Rules and regulations also helped to lessen the rate of accidents involving construction workers as well as the duration of the projects. Similarly, the influence of the organizational external factors with rules and regulations on construction risk management has proven that most of the construction companies that implement the aforementioned factors have the chance to deliver their projects within the stipulated time, cost, and qualities, which can be used as a yardstick to measure a good project.

Exploring the spatial distribution of domestic debt in Nigeria

Richard Adeleke,Tolulope Osayomi 대한공간정보학회 2022 Spatial Information Research Vol.30 No.2

The rapid growth in domestic debt in Nigeria, coupled with the high level of debt servicing is a huge challenge given its negative impact on economic development. However, there is scanty evidence on the spatial disparities and the correlates of rising domestic debt in Nigeria. Moreover, are the high or low amounts of debt a function of the spatial variations in socio-economic, macroeconomic and political economy factors? Hence, this study examined the spatial distribution of domestic debt and determined to what extent socio-economic, macro-economic and political economy factors are associated with state-level variations in domestic debt. Spatial statistics of Global and Local Moran’s I were used to examine the patterns of domestic debt while ordinary least squares model and spatial error model were applied to determine the correlates. Results show that there was significant clustering of domestic debt while population density and corruption were the significant predictors of the spatial pattern. The study recommends the need to closely monitor states with large population size so as to void the debt trap and leverage the potentials of human capital. Also, corruption at all levels of government should be curtailed.

      • Mentoring in the Gospel: Accentuating a Rediscovery of the Jesus Model of Mentoring for the 21st Century Christian Leaders

Michael Adeleke Ogunewu,Ayotunde Olayori Oguntade 삼육대학교 미래사회와기독교연구소 2021 융합학문과 기독교 Vol.2 No.2

Today, the need for making disciples for Christ across world communities put enormous responsibilities on church leaders to replicate themselves in the younger generations of Christians for the advancement of the work of the church. Consequently, mentoring the mechanism by which this could be done has become more of a necessity today than ever before. Incidentally, the gospel records reveal that mentoring was the mechanism adopted by Christ in the replication of his own life in the apostles. This study therefore is a reflection on Jesus model of mentoring. It discusses mentoring in the Jewish community of the time which Jesus shared the same style with, highlights the content of his mentoring programme, identifies and discusses his mentoring methods - preaching and teaching, role modelling, practical demonstration and coaching; advocates this model of mentoring as a way by which contemporary church leaders can reproduce themselves in the younger generations of Christians, so as to prevent a dearth of leaders in the church in succeeding generations and makes suggestions as to how this can be appropriated. Although studies on Jesus model of mentoring cannot be said to be new as such studies have been conducted in time past, however, the leadership deficiencies observed among Christian leaders today in Africa in general and Nigeria in particular, calls for a rediscovery of this methods in this 21st century. The study adopted the descriptive approach, backed with qualitative use of existing literature.

Evaluation of Antioxidant Potential of Melanthera scandens

Sunday Adeleke Adesegun,Sukurat Olasumbo Alabi,Patricia Taiwo Olabanji,Herbert Alexander Babatunde Coker 사단법인약침학회 2010 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.3 No.4

A methanol extract of dried leaves of Melanthera scandens was examined for antioxidant activities using a variety of assays, including 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, reducing power, ferrous chelating, and ferric thiocyanate methods with ascorbic acid and EDTA as positive controls. The extract showed noticeable activities in most of these in vitro tests. The amount of phenolic compounds in the extract expressed in gallic acid equivalent was found to be 52.8 mg/g. The extract demonstrated inhibition of linoleic acid lipid peroxidation, active reducing power, and DPPH radical scavenging activities which were less than that of the positive controls. The extract also showed weaker iron chelating effect when compared with the EDTA positive control. The present results showed that M. scandens leaf extract possessed antioxidant properties and this plant is a potential useful source of natural antioxidants.

Biotechnological overview of agriculturally important endophytic fungi

Bartholomew Saanu Adeleke,Olubukola Oluranti Babalola 한국원예학회 2021 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.62 No.4

The many fascinating aspects of biotechnology in endophytic studies not only concern their interactions with plants but their potential as key players driving the synthesis of certain biomolecules that enhance plant growth, immunity, and protection against environmental stresses. A high microbial population inhabits the rhizosphere due to rhizodeposition and root exudate secretions. The rhizoplane forms a barrier that selectively screens the types of microorganisms infiltrating the root tissues with well-developed hyphae for successful colonization and establishment of endophytic communities within the plant tissues. Fungal endophytes contribute to the physiological and metabolic functions in the host plants, such as nutrient acquisition, nitrogen fixation, and control of plant pathogens. They also contribute to plant growth via complex mechanisms: mutualism or antagonism. The molecular methods of studying these endophytes have provided salient information for harnessing their potential for possible applications in improving agricultural productivity. Despite this, only a small fraction of endophytes have been isolated and explored. Hence, the metagenomic approach has revealed more insights into the endophytic structural diversity and functions for the detection of novel traits that can easily be genetically manipulated for various agricultural and industrial applications. Furthermore, biotechnological applications of biofertilizer from endophytic fungi help ensure a safe environment and aid in the development of agriculturally friendly processes for improved crop yields and productivity.
