        A Randomized Active Controlled Clinical Trial to Evaluate Safety and Efficacy of a Topical Unani Formulation Marham Kharish Jadeed in the Management of Qūbā (Tinea Corporis)

        Introduction: Qūbā (Tinea Corporis) is a very common disease widely prevalent worldwide. 20 - 25 % individuals suffer for this stubborn disease. Unani System of Medicine offers its treatment. There are many pharmacopoeial formulations indicated for various types of dermatophytic infections. In this study clinical efficacy and safety of the topical Unani formulation Marham Kharish Jadeed (a compound drug in the dosage form of an ointment) was assessed and compared with a standard conventional medicine. Materials and methods: A clinical study was conducted on 60 participants of qūbā randomized into test and control groups (n=30 in each group). The participants were clinically diagnosed and confirmed by microscopy of skin scrapings. The efficacy of the Unani formulation was assessed in terms of TSS score and elimination of fungal elements from the skin lesions. The data collected were analyzed statistically. Results and discussion: The study showed that the Unani formulation had comparatively better efficacy clinically than conventional medicine Terbinafine hydrochloride 1% cream in terms of reduction of itching, erythema, scaling, peripheral raised margins of the lesion comparing to baseline. In this study, 27 participants in test group and 18 participants in control group were completely cured (≥75% reduction in TSS Score with Mycological Cure) after 4 weeks of treatment. The efficacy of the Unani formulation was found significant statistically. The individual drugs of the formulations having analgesic (Musakkin), blood purifier (Muṣaffi-i-Dam), demulcent (Mulaṭṭif), antifungal (Qātil-i-fafūndῑ), detergent (Jālῑ), refrigerant (Mubarrid) and antiseptic (Dāfi'-i-'Ufūnat) properties might be responsible for the efficacy of Unani formulation. Conclusion: The findings of the study suggested that the Unani formulation was found effective and safe in the management of qūbā. No local and systemic adverse effect was reported during the study.

        Space of homeomorphisms under regular topology

        In this paper, we attempt to study several topological properties for the function space $\hx$, space of self-homeomorphisms on a metric space endowed with the regular topology. We investigate its metrizability and countability and prove their coincidence at $X$ compact. Furthermore, we prove that the space $\hx$ endowed with the regular topology is a topological group when $X$ is a metric, almost $P$-space. Moreover, we prove that the homeomorphism spaces of increasing and decreasing functions on $\R$ under regular topology are open subspaces of $H(\R)$ and are homeomorphic.

        One-pot four-component synthesis of thiazolidin-2-imines using Cu<sup>I</sup>/Zn<sup>II</sup> dual catalysis: A new class of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>An efficient one-pot four-component strategy involving aldehydes, amines, alkynes and isothiocyanates has been developed to access a novel series of thiazolidine-2-imines (<B>5a-x</B>). This process operates under the action of a cooperative catalysis composed of Cu(I) and Zn(II) delivering the desired five-membered heterocyclic compounds in good to excellent yields. Notably, this transformation avoids the use of pre-formed imines or propargylamines and proceeds <I>via</I> an intramolecular 5-<I>exo-dig</I> hydrothiolation reaction of the <I>in situ</I> formed propargyl thiourea. Furthermore, the biological application of these motifs was demonstrated in terms of their strong acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activity where compound <B>5s</B> was identified as the lead AChE inhibitor with an IC<SUB>50</SUB> value of 0.0023 ± 0.0002 μM, 88-folds stronger inhibition than standard drug (neostigmine methyl sulphate; IC<SUB>50</SUB> = 0.203 ± 0.004 μM). Molecular docking analysis reinforced the <I>in vitro</I> biological activity results revealing the formation of several useful interactions of the potent lead with amino acid residues in the active site of the enzyme.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> One-pot four component methodology was developed under Cu/Zn dual catalysis. </LI> <LI> A diverse range of thiazolidin-2-imines was prepared in excellent yields. </LI> <LI> Good functional group tolerance and broad substrate scope were explored. </LI> <LI> Potent inhibitors (<B>5b</B>, <B>5i</B>, <B>5s</B>, <B>5t</B>) of acetylcholinesterase were identified. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Efficient GPU Isosurface Ray-casting of BCC Datasets

        본 연구에서는, 결과물의 우수함을 유지하면서도 기존 연구결과의 성능을 4-7배 향상시킨 실시간 GPU 등가면 볼륨 레이케스터를 제시한다. 이러한 성능 향상은 효율적인 빈공간 생략법과 분석적 그레디언트 계산법을 도입함으로써 가능하다. 빈공간 생략법은 스플라인 조각들의 BB-형식으로부터 만등어진 최소/최대값 옥트리에 기반하고 있고, 분석적 그레디언트 계산법은 보다 정확한 렌더링 결과를 제공할 뿐 아니라 더욱 빠른 계산이 가능하도록 한다. This paper presents a real-time GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) isosurface ray-caster that improves the performance by 4-7 folds from our previous method, while keeping the superior visual quality. Such an improvement is achieved by incorporating an efficient empty-space skipping scheme and an analytic normal computation. The empty-space skipping scheme is done by building an min/max octree computed from the BB(Bernslein-B$\acute{e}$zier)-form of spline pieces and the analytic normal Formula provides not only a nice visual quality but also an improved evaluation performance.
