This article deals with various photochemical processes occurring at $TiO_2$ surface and its applications in practical living conditions. In the first part, we present an overview of $TiO_2$ photocatalysis under weak W illumination with a special emphasis on bactericidal and detoxification properties of $TiO_2$ films. The second part deals with the photoinduced super hydrophilic TiCt surftce which has a wide commercial applications. In the last part, we present our recent work on boehmite-based super hydrophobic surfaces containing small amount of $TiO_2$ to obtain self-cleaning effect.
Ameloblastic carcinoma of the mandible: a case report

Background Ameloblastic carcinoma is a malignant form of ameloblastoma and a very rare odontogenic tumor. We report a case of ameloblastic carcinoma that occurred after removal of a right-sided mandibular dental implant. Case presentation A 72-year-old female patient visited her family dentist with a complaint of pain around a lower right implant placed 37 years previously. Although the dental implant was removed with the diagnosis of periimplantitis, the patient experienced dullness of sensation in the lower lip and was followed up by her dentist, but after no improvement. She was referred to a highly specialized institution where she was diagnosed with osteomyelitis and treated the patient with medication; however, there was no improvement. In addition, granulation was observed in the same area leading to a suspicion of malignancy, and the patient was referred to our oral cancer center. The diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma was made after a biopsy at our hospital. Under general anesthesia, the patient underwent mandibulectomy, right-sided neck dissection, free flap reconstruction with an anterolateral thigh flap, immediate reconstruction with a metal plate, and tracheostomy. Histological analysis of the resected specimen on hematoxylin and eosin staining showed structures reminiscent of enamel pulp and squamous epithelium in the center of the tumor. The tumor cells were highly atypical, with nuclear staining, hypertrophy, irregular nuclear size, and irregular nuclear shape, all of which were suggestive of cancer. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that Ki-67 was expressed in more than 80% of the targeted area, and the final diagnosis was primary ameloblastic carcinoma. Conclusion After reconstructive flap transplantation, occlusion was re-established using a maxillofacial prosthesis. The patient remained disease-free at the 1-year 3-month follow-up.
Electric-field Resonance Coupling between Human and Transmitter for Human Position Estimation System

In this paper, a novel human position estimation system using electric-field resonance coupling is proposed. There are various advantages of using electric-field for human position estimation system. The system is robust to illumination change, body-worn tags are not required and sensors could be hidden since electric-field can path through an insulator. Tags are not required because the system estimates the position by measuring the electric field transmitted along the human body which acts as an electric-field coupler. Moreover, the proposed system has wider sensing range and higher expandability to position estimation of multiple humans compared to the current system. Unlike the current system which only measures the electric-field coupled between human and transmitter, the proposed system measures the electric-field amplified by the resonance occurring inside the human (equivalent to giant antenna) to achieve wider sensing range. Meanwhile, the proposed system is also designed carefully to maintain the expandability to multiple humans position estimation. Based on the simulation results, it is verified that the sensing range could be up to 50[cm] with less than 5[cm] error. In the future, the proposed system could be a powerful alternative for the current system.

Pyrex관에 코팅시킨 박막 또는 분말 TiO₂에 근자외선을 조사하여 광촉매 반응을 일어나게 함으로써, 저장된 물에 존재하는 대장균(∼2×10³cell/mL)을 멸균시키는 반응성을 비교 실험하였다. TiO₂ 분말을 이용했을 경우 15분 이내에 2×10^5 마리의 대장균을 완전 멸균시켰고, 반면에 박막의 경우에는 약 3시간이 소요되었다. Disinfection of Escherichia coli(E. coli) (∼2×10³ cells/mL) in reservoir water (100mL) was demonstrated by photocatalysis using UV-illuminated titanium dioxide(TiO₂) powder and thin film sup ported on a Pyrex tube. In the experiments employing T₁O₂, powder, when UV light was employed, all of the E. coli cells were killed photocatalytically in less than 15 min.. Meanwhile, the total disinfection of E. coli was achieved in less than 3 hours for the film.
