This paper presents a method of estimating the direction and position of mallards from voice information using arrayed microphones combined with delay-and-sum beamforming. Rice farming using mallards saves labor because mallards work instead of farmers. Nevertheless, the number of mallards declines when they are preyed upon by natural enemies such as crows, kites, and weasels. We consider that efficient management can be achieved from locating and identifying the locations of mallards and natural enemies using voice information that can be widely sensed in a paddy field. For this study, we developed a prototype system with 32 microphones installed as an array installed on our originally designed and assembled mount. We obtained benchmark sound datasets in an outdoor environment that comprises 18 grid points of 40 m width and 30 m depth. For direction estimation, no detection angle error occurred at 9 points. Estimation errors were increased at sharp-angle positions from the microphone array. For position estimation, our method correctly estimated 8 points.

This article deals with various photochemical processes occurring at $TiO_2$ surface and its applications in practical living conditions. In the first part, we present an overview of $TiO_2$ photocatalysis under weak W illumination with a special emphasis on bactericidal and detoxification properties of $TiO_2$ films. The second part deals with the photoinduced super hydrophilic TiCt surftce which has a wide commercial applications. In the last part, we present our recent work on boehmite-based super hydrophobic surfaces containing small amount of $TiO_2$ to obtain self-cleaning effect.

Pyrex관에 코팅시킨 박막 또는 분말 TiO₂에 근자외선을 조사하여 광촉매 반응을 일어나게 함으로써, 저장된 물에 존재하는 대장균(∼2×10³cell/mL)을 멸균시키는 반응성을 비교 실험하였다. TiO₂ 분말을 이용했을 경우 15분 이내에 2×10^5 마리의 대장균을 완전 멸균시켰고, 반면에 박막의 경우에는 약 3시간이 소요되었다. Disinfection of Escherichia coli(E. coli) (∼2×10³ cells/mL) in reservoir water (100mL) was demonstrated by photocatalysis using UV-illuminated titanium dioxide(TiO₂) powder and thin film sup ported on a Pyrex tube. In the experiments employing T₁O₂, powder, when UV light was employed, all of the E. coli cells were killed photocatalytically in less than 15 min.. Meanwhile, the total disinfection of E. coli was achieved in less than 3 hours for the film.
