        국제천문 및 천체물리 올림피아드 현황과 기출문항에 대한 과학탐구 유형 분석

        The International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) initiated by the Thailand Astronomical Society in 2007 is an annual competition for high school students. One of its aim is to enhance the development of international exchange in the field of school education in astronomy and astrophysics. This paper first provides the overview of the IOAA in terms of key regulations based on its statutes, history and current status. Secondly, the published syllabus of the IOAA is used for content analysis according to subject areas regarding the exam questions of the IOAA in theoretical, observational and data analysis parts from 2007 to 2010. Also, a scientific inquiry framework is applied to the same questions for assessment based on scientific inquiry in the cognitive aspect with two sub-classes of scientific knowledge and scientific reasoning. Among a dozen astronomy subject areas listed on the syllabus, the theoretical part of the IOAA makes more frequent use of the Sun, the solar system, properties of stars, and concept of time. In content knowledge, a factor of scientific knowledge, the IOAA questions, especially in the theoretical part have a lesser degree in difficulty than the IAO (International Astronomy Olympiad) exam questions for the same period whose degree in difficulty is comparable to college level. With regard to scientific reasoning, the IOAA questions tend to involve convergent rather than divergent thinking. Lastly, in light of these findings, discussions are given on the outcome of Korean participation in the previous IOAAs and ways to help better in preparing Korean students for future astronomy Olympiads.

        천문올림피아드 국제대회 참가자에 대한 추적연구

        We have carried out a follow-up study on the students who have participated or are going to participate in either the International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO), the Asia Pacific Astronomy Olympiad (APAO) or the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) from 2002 to 2011. The survey questionnaires returned from ten high school students including five who are to participate in 2011 as well as fourteen college students have been analyzed in various aspects of their backgrounds and personal characteristics. In family life, their parents tend to have high educational background along with high expectations for their children. In regard to the academic environment, most students express a general satisfaction in school life, including their relationship with teachers and classmates. In personal characteristics, they describe themselves as inquisitive, perseverant, competitive, creative, self-motivated and goal-oriented, in addition to many other traits. Most students have a strong interest in astronomy which usually begins in middle schools through exposure to astronomy books. On top of it, the astronomy olympiad has provided them with an opportunity to strengthen their self-esteem, problem-solving ability and conviction about scientific careers. Accordingly, the experience in astronomy olympiad has led a considerable number of students to continuously studying in astronomy related fields or otherwise in other science and engineering areas. In conclusion, the astronomy olympiad plays such an important role that it can make a significant contribution to astronomy as well as science in general by having positive impact on the potential career path of its participants.

        천문우주 질문상자에 나타난 역법과 고천문분야 질문유형 분석

        In this paper, we analyze the scientific inquiries type on Almanac and Historical Astronomy asked through the Q&A service in Korea Astronomy and Science Institute(KASI) webpage with the aid of scientific inquiries analysis methods. We also study the contents of the questions. Specifically, we have created statistics of questions and inquiries, and have developed categories to analyze the characteristics of questions with regard to their cognitive aspects. Each question is categorized as either of the two elements based on their recognitive aspect: science knowledge or science study. Each element also has sub-categories that help the reader understand the characteristics of the questions. For the analysis, we used the sample consisting of questions collected from April, 2005 to June, 2007. Through this study, we achieved a better understanding of the questions in the area of Almanac and Historical Astronomy asked in the Q&A service. Throughout this study, we find that the need of questions in the area of Almanac and Historical Astronomy are increasing with time, and the overall quality of the questions is getting improved. As we expect that the number of people using our Q&A service will increase and that the questions will get more difficult to answer, development of improved contents is required.

        국제천문올림피아드 현황과 기출문항에 대한 과학탐구 유형 분석

        The International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO) was established by the Euro-Asian Astronomical Society in order to disseminate astronomical knowledge, promote international cooperation in astronomical education area and recognize the importance of astronomy in far-reaching field of science and human culture. The first IAO competition was held at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences located in the north Caucasus of Russia in 1996. Since then, it has been held every year. This paper describes the present status of the IAO main regulations regarding its operation and major results by year, related institutions, and organizations. We created a scientific inquiry framework to analyze past IAO problems in the recognitive aspect in order to measure levels of the scientific knowledges and the scientific thinking abilities. Through this analysis, we can understand the current status of the IAO, and examine the future direction of Korea Astronomy Olympiad. Also, we can make preparation for the IAO competition and the education of delegates.

        국제천문올림피아드 참가자에 대한 추적연구

        We carried out a follow-up study on the students who participated in International Astronomy Olympiad(IAO). We surveyed home and school environment, personal characteristics with regard to four high school student and five college students who participated in IAO from 2002 to 2005. In the home environment variable of science elite students who took part in the IAO, we found out significant corelation between science elites and their parent's educational career. In their personal characteristics, we found out considerably their motivation capacity, intelligent curiosity, flexible and creative thinking ability. This study illuminated that the experience of IAO participation offered the opportunity for the students to gain mare self-esteem and positive confidence on scientific study. The IAO experience is construed to effect greatly the students' future. Through the IAO experience, the participating students are expected to major in astronomy and become excellent astronomers in the future. We expect that the interest of student will increase greatly in the area of astronomy and it will contribute to the substantial development of Korean astronomy. In this respect, with the constant support to the IAO participants, the effort to cultivate outstanding astronomers and follow-up study on those participants of the IAO should be continued.

        한국천문올림피아드 학생선발 및 교육방법 개선을 위한 조사연구

        A number of middle and high school students are selected at the Korea Astronomy Olympiad (KAO) in every year. In the first stage of the selection, the resume, school transcript, and recommendation letters from teachers are referred. In the second stage, after video lectures and weekend observation classes, students are tested with on-line homeworks, and interviewed through internet. For 118 students who have gone through the second stage of the 2012 KAO, we have conducted a questionnaire survey, which asks the students the motivation and preparation for the KAO. The survey has also included inquiries for the selection process and education program of the 2012 KAO; the replies will be used as feedbacks for the next year's KAO. The survey has revealed that the first stage worked well, while the second stage needs to be improved in terms of fairness and objectivity. We have found that most students received private tutorings for the KAO, so we suggest efforts should be made for students to be able to prepare the KAO without receiving private tutorings.

      • 5.8 GHz 대역 근거리무선통신용 Radio Frequency 모듈 설계 및 구현

        This paper proposes the specifications of the RF module of 5.8 GHz dedicated short range communications, which are available to both time division duplex and a variable channel method. The design and implementation of a transceiver of radio frequency module are accomplished on the basis of the proposed specifications. The implemented transceiver shows 45 dB of the interference suppression and -76 dBm of receiving sensitivity when On/Off keying modulation is adopted. Therefore, the implemented radio frequency module is acceptable to the system with 2 Mbps transmission rate. In designing the radio frequency module, it is considered that the harmonics from each device do not interfere each channel. A Wilkinson power divider is used in the part of antenna/duplexer. Because the frequency band of the implemented module is variable, it is applicable to various radio frequency modules.

        디렉토리 서비스에 기반한 CAD 툴 및 라이센스 자원의 자동화된 공유 방식

        디자인 워킹 그룹에서 설계자가 CAD 툴을 사용하기 위해서는 현재 속한 그룹에서 사용 할 수 있는 CAD 틀 및 라이센스의 종류, 개수 및 설정 방법을 알아야 하고, 이 정보는 해당 그룹에 속한 관리자를 통해 얻는다. 기존의 CAD 툴/라이센스 공유 방법은 설계자가 CAD 툴 및 라이센스에 대한 정보를 획득하는 과정이 관리자와의 수작업을 통한 통신으로 이루어 졌으며, 해당 정보를 획득한 후에는 설계자가 직접 환경 설정을 해야 한다. 이와 같은 환경에서는 새로운 설계자가 특정 그룹에 들어왔을 때, 정보를 얻기 위한 통신과 설정 과정으로 인해 불필요한 설계시간을 소모하게 되어 결국 생산성 및 CAD 툴의 이용률을 저하시킨다. 또한, 관리자의 입장에서도 모든 설계자들에게 CAD 툴 및 라이센스에 대한 정보를 제공하기 위해서는 많은 시간 및 노력비용을 소모하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 디렉토리 서비스에 기반하여 특정 디자인 워킹 그룹에서 CAD 툴 및 라이센스를 자동화된 방법으로 공유하기 위한 방식을 제안한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방법은 사용자와 관리자 사이의 통신부분을 자동화하여, 관련 정보 공유를 위해 소비되던 불필요한 시간을 최소화시킨다. 또한, 디렉토리 서비스를 이용하여 설계자와 관리자 사이의 CAD 툴 및 라이센스 정보에 대한 일관성을 항상 자동으로 유지함으로써, 설계자와 관리자 사이의 반복된 CAD 툴 및 라이센스 설정에 대한 정보 교환 작업을 제거하여 공유의 효율성을 높이고, 프락시를 사용하여 수동으로 진행되던 설계자의 환경 설정 과정을 자동화한다. 또한, 실행 가능한 프락시를 이용하여 씬 클라이언트 CAD 어플리케이션을 제공한다. 제안된 방법은 Sun Microsystems의 Jini 기술을 이용하여 구현한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 CAD 툴 및 라이센스 공유 시스템은 결과적으로 설계자와 관리자의 불필요한 설계 시간과 노력비용을 감소시키고, CAD 툴의 이용률을 향상시킬 수 있을 것이라고 사료된다. Designers should know CAD tool/license information such as available number of licenses or tools, types, and configuration methods to use CAD tools properly in their group. Usually, this information is provided by managers who administrate CAD tool and license servers in the specific design group. In the previous CAD tool/licenses sharing methods, designers have to get CAD tool/license information manually and setup the environments with their own hands. n a new designer comes into the design working group, the designer wastes unnecessary design time, because of these processes. As a result, designer's poductivity and utilization of CAD tools will decrease Besides, managers also waste their time and effort, since they should provide CAD tool/license information manually to each designer. In this paper, we present an automated scheme to share CAD tool/license information based on directory service. The proposed methods automate the communication processes between managers and designers that minimze unnecessary time to share CAD information. In addition, as this system maintains the consistency of CAD information automatically that remove the repeated work of managers and designers, it improves the enciency of sharing. Besides, it automates the license configuration steps using prof(y Last, we offer Executable Proxy which is proper for thin CAD application. We believe this scheme will reduce designers and managers' time and effort as well as maximize the utilization of CAD tools.

        우주전파 수신기를 위한 IF 분배기 및 V/F 컨버터 설계

        We designed the Intermediate Frequency(IF) distributor for multi beam backend system and manufactured Voltage to Frequency Converter(VFC) to measure the multi-beam receiver performance. Multi beam receiver has 15 channel receivers and can get 15 spectrums at once. The multi beam receiver has more observation efficiency than single beam receiver. We manufactured the 15 IF distributors to distribute IF signal for Autocorrelation spectrometer that is radio signal processor. Also, we manufactured the VF Converter to test the performance measurement of receiver for Korea VLBI Network(KVN) system which is under-construct in Seoul, Ulsan and Jeju. As a result of performance measurement, we could obtain linearity of 99.4% on the input power vs output frequency and measured the operating range of input frequency.

        분산 저장된 천문 디지털자료의 통합관리시스템 구현에 관한 연구

        한국천문연구원의 지역천문대인 보현산천문대, 소백산천문대, 레몬산천문대의 관측자료 활용을 용이하게 해주는 통합관리 시스템을 구축하였다. 관측자료는 생산된 천문대 각각에 아카이브로 보관하며, 통합시스템에는 관측자료에 관한 MySQL 테이블만 저장한다. 지역천문대와 통합시스템에는 각각 관리자가 있어 자료의 보관 및 헤더정보 추출, 테이블 생성 및 웹 페이지 관리 등을 역할 분담하여 수행한다. 사용자는 통합시스템의 웹 검색페이지 한곳에서 모든 천문대의 관측자료를 검색할 수 있으며 다운로드 또한 검색결과 페이지에서 가능하다. 통합시스템에서 독립된 각각의 천문대 아카이브로 쿼리를 보내 검색하는 방식은 가상천문대의 기본개념과 동일하다. 이와 같이 본 연구는 국제가상천문대 사업에 참여하는 한국가상천문대 구축 작업의 일환이기도 하다. We constructed the integrated management system of distributed astronomical data of Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory(BOAO), Sobaeksan Optical Astronomy Observatory (SOAO), and Mt. Lemmon Optical Astronomy Observatory(LOAO). The observed data was stored in the archive of the observatory and MySQL table is saved in the integrated management system. There are data archive managers in the observatories and they manage the integrated management system such as data storing, head information extraction, table generation, and management of web pages, etc. The users can search and download all the data in the integrated management system web page. The concept of this system - send queries from web page to the observatory archives - is the same of the basic concept of virtual observatory. This research is one of the main work in the Korean virtual observatory which is take part in the international virtual observatory alliance.
