In this paper, the connection details of the prefabricated RC/SRC columns and a concrete-encased U-shaped steel beam is presented, and their seismic resistance performance is evaluated through a full-scale test. One of the life-scale column specimens for the test is a prefabricated RC column built with reinforcing bars, and the other one is a prefabricated SRC column built with L-shaped angle steels and reinforcing bars. Both of the columns are fully fabricated at factory by precise shop welding, so they don’t need on-site bar arrangement and temporary supports. Although there were many other seismic resistance performance evaluation tests with the forenamed columns and beams, but most of the previous tests were mainly arranged to demonstrate the performance of the connections as the special moment frame (SMF). However, in majority of real-world cases special moment frame is generally not common due to high cost and low workability. This paper presents more practical connection details of beam-to-column connections which accord with the intermediate moment frame (IMF) conditions as defined in the Korea Building Code 2009 (KBC2009) and, also, presents the result of the test which proves the aforementioned claim by using the life-scale specimens and finite element analysis.

This paper presents equivalent linear system for 76-story benchmark building with nonlinear tuned liquid column damper (TLCD). The response characteristic of benchmark building for the deterministic wind loads is investigated. And then, the equivalent linear system is obtained first in terms of equivalent linear damping and second in terms of equivalent single degree of freedom system. Numerical results show that these equivalent linear systems can almost exactly predict the controlled structural responses when compared with the nonlinear TLCD system. Finally, an equation for estimating the peak response of structure subjected to harmonic load is derived. This equation does not require any iteration process which is essential in the analysis using eqjivalent linear system for TLCD.

The main objective of this paper is to evaluate the control performance of a coulomb friction damper (CFD) for controlling the inelastic behavior of seismically excited buildings. The seismic performances of various buildings are evaluated, and the additional dampings are calculated using capacity spectrum method (CSM) if the evaluated performance levels of the buildings are below the target level. Maximum friction force of the Coulomb friction damper is then calculated using the concept of equivalent viscous damping. Numerical simulations for various single degree of freedom (SDOF) systems demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed procedure.
