N/A evaluated the effects of cisapride tartrate on gastrointestinal symptoms and gastric emptying times in diabetic patients with dysmotility like dyspeptic symptoms. Methods: Cisapride was administered before each meal in 61 patients for 4 weeks. The intensity of gastrointestinal symptoms before and after cisapride administration was scored from 0 to 4, in the order of increasing severity of symptoms. In addition, a gastric emptying test was performed. Results: A significant reduction in the total intensity score of symptoms was observed during the first two weeks, from 8.5±2.1 to 4.0±3.0 (p<0.05), and a further reduction was noted during the next two weeks, to 2.8±2.8 (p<0.05). Good to excellent improvement was obtained in 70.4% of the patients, but the improvement in symptoms was not related to age, duration of diabetes, glucose, Hb A1c, neuropathy, or retinopathy. Treatment with cisapride induced a significant regression of symptoms and a significant improvement of delayed gastric emptying from 104.0± 31.7 minutes to 79.5±17.1 (p<0.05). However, there was a lack of association between the changes in gastric emptying times and improvements in symptoms(r2=0.00186). Only 3 patients complained of loose stool, nausea, or dizziness. Conclusions: Cisapride was effective in improving dysmotility like dyspeptic symptoms in diabetic patients without serious side effects. (Korean Journal of Gastrointestinal Motility 2001;7:56-64)

An important advantage of cold-formed steel is the great flexibility of cross-sectional profiles and sizes available to structural steel designers. However, this flexibility makes the selection of the most economical section difficult for a particular situation. In this study, Micro Genetic Algorithm(μ-GA) is used to find an optimum cross section of cold-formed lipped channel beams under uniformly distributed load considering all structural constraints such as moments, deflection, shear, web crippling, and flange curling. The efficiency of μ-GA has been proved through many problems, especially the problem with 3∼5 design variables. The design curves are generated for optimum values of the thickness, the flange flat-width-to-thickness ratio and lip flat-width-to-thickness ratio for unbraced beams. The optimum design curves presented in this paper can be a valuable guide to structural engineers.

In Korea, the settlements of the foreigners are increasing, and especially, with the increase of the multi-cultured family through international marriages, we are really entering the multi-cultured society. It is specified in the law to establish the basic plan to support multi-cultured families, but it is hard to find the contents related to residential living. Among the living environment of the multi-cultured families, the proportion of the residential living is high, and if it is difficult to adopt to the living with the sense of the differences in the space with different living, and if they feel inconvenient in living, it cannot be said that the support for multi-cultured family is well carried out. To remove the sense of differences that are felt by the foreigners in the residential space and to maintain the harmony of the family, the supporting system that can actively find and enhance the inconveniences in the residential living space. The residential environment of the multi-cultured families in Garibong reorganization promotion district is very poor. Such residential environment becomes the element hindering the stable settlement of the multi-cultured families, so political considerations are necessary. The research was carried out on the residential status of the multi-cultured families and their perception toward real estate, and the implications are derived as follows.

The experimental study for web buckling capacity of FRP bridge decks proposed by KICT in 2003 is performed in this paper. Four kinds of test are conducted with the shape of specimen and loading type as variables and five specimens for each test are made. Furthermore, analytic research using commercial package ABAQUS with a 4-node shell element is carried to estimate web buckling capacity and its behavior The web buckling was verified to major cause of failure as a result of tests and bonding failure at adhesive section of web and compression failure at joint of flange and web are main cause of failure of the FRP specimens. The buckling stability of FRP specimens is superior as a whole. Especially, the 2-cells FRP specimen under uniformly distributed loading near most with actual behavior, whose web buckling safety rate is 5.0 and is safe very much from buckling.

Axial strength and flat-width-to-thickness ratio of web, flange, and lip are considered. The design curves are generated for optimum values of the thickness, the web flat-depth-to-thickness ratio, the flange flat-width-to-thickness ratio and the lip flat-width-to-thickness ratio for columns. The optimum design curves presented in this paper can be a valuable guide to structural engineers.
