THE PARTICLE SIZE EFFECT ON COMBUSTION BEHAVIOR OF CELLULOSE INSULATION

The combustion of cellulose insulation treated with Borax, Boric acid and Aluminum Sulfate as combustion retardants is examined by candle type combustion tester. The cellulose fibers in cellulose insulation are classified by diameter as less than 0.2mm, 0.2mm-0.5mm, 0.5mm-2mm and more than 2mm. The burning behavior of cellulose insulation are studied by LOI (Limit Oxygen Index: Beginning point of smoldering), L- point (Lower point of combustion transition from smoldering- flaming to flaming combustion), LOI, L-point and H-point rise with the increasing particle size of cellulose fibers because thermal decomposition rate of cellulose fiber decreases. The phenomena of combustion transition from smoldering to flaming combustion are determined by the generating rate of combustible gas and the formation rate of combustible gas mixture within the zone of cellulose fiber heated.

<P>The prototype of the cdc2 protein kinase in mammalian cells regulates its entry into mitosis by phosphorylating a group of key proteins in the major cell cycle transitions. In this study, using the mep45 gene encoding the 45 kDa major envelope protein (Mep45) of Selenomonas ruminantium, a rumen bacteria, a Mep45-fused substrate (PKTPKKAKKL-Mep45, MFS-cdc2) was cloned to detect the activity of cdc2 protein kinase. We report here on a strategy for the detection of a phosphorylation of a substrate catalyzed by cdc2 protein kinase by using a radioisotope detection technique. It is possible to constantly obtain a reasonable quantity of MFS-cdc2 for the cdc2 protein kinase assay and its cost can be as low as a synthesized peptide. Results of the study indicate that the Mep45-fused protein can be used effectively as a substrate for detecting the activity of cdc2 protein kinase and it can be used in developing a protein biochip for a high-throughput screening and also for studying protein–protein interactions. Law and literature belong to the different disciplines both in concept and in practice. But the recent academic trend has shown that between these two spheres there exist many similarities by which law and literature can find a way to define their own realities in a mutual context. Since law and literature have the unsettling capacity to portray humanity, they are inevitably linked to the concrete story of individuals. Law is a story like any novel, while in the process of making a story it has to make all the considerations concerning the human interests. It is in this sense that law and literature can find a common ground in their use of narrative. In fact, narrative has now become a useful tool in interpreting the legal problems. As a major literary concept with its own history, narrative belongs to the large categories to order and construct reality. Both in law and literature, narrative can lead to the medium to bring a perspective on humanity; as such, the role of narrative is to embody the complexities of life in a deeper level. Due to the efficacy of narrative, law acquires an effective means of explaining and interpreting the many sides of humanity that law itself cannot afford to allow. Along with the positive impact of narrative in law, the role of narrative has been actively explored with the advent of "the law and literature movement" starting in the 1970s. The debate on the value of narrative has become more intense largely because narrative has many advantages as well as ambiguities in the execution of legal matters. The narrative force in law is recognized as carrying a more complex side as it is not as naive as many lawyers believed it to be. Law tries to (or, has to) solve the confrontations occurring in human affairs rather than to achieve the order and ideal that literary narrative attempts to accomplish. Thus, instead of adopting symbols and metaphors in the development of its own narrative, law primarily exercises reasoning and rhetoric in finding a solution to human conflicts. As belonging to the topic that interests many legal and literary scholars, the meaning of narrative in law will open a new horizon in the study of law and literature.

한국 가톨릭 신심과 그 역사적 배경 : 해방과 한국 전쟁 시기 During the Period of Liberation from Japan and the Korean War

일본으로부터 해방을 맞고 한국 전쟁을 전후한 시기에, 한국 가톨릭 교회는 특별히 마리아 신심과 한국 순교자 신심을 강조하였다. 아마 이러한 신심들을 강조한 것은 당시 어려운 상황에 처해 있던 신자들에게 용기와인내력을 주기 위함이었을 것이다. 교회는 파티마 성모 발현에 대해 자주 이야기했다. 파티마에 발현한 성모는 당시 공산주의의 우두머리라고 여겨지던 러시아의 멸망을 예언한 것으로 유명하다. 한국 교회는 교황청의 지도에 따라 공산주의를 악마로 여기며, 그들과 싸우기 위해 군대에 지원하는 사람들을 십자군처럼 여겼다. 한국 순교자들에 대한 신심을 강조한 것은 위험과 죽음 앞에 놓인 신자들을 격려하기 위한 것이었다. 그런데 여기에는 몇 가지 성찰해 보아야 할 요소가 있다. 그것은 교회가 신자들에 대해서 뿐 아니라 현재와 미래를 향해 나아가는 역사에 대해서도 책임이 있기 때문이다. 우선 마리아 신심의 해석 문제를 살펴볼 필요가 있다. 교회는 극단적 반공주의 입장에 서서 이 전쟁 시기에 가진 마리아의 역할이 남한 사람들만을 지켜 주는 것으로 해석함으로써 남한과 북한이 분열되는데 부채질을 하였다. 또한 전쟁을 통해 백성을 벌하시는 화가 난 하느님을 소개하면서 마리아는 마치 이렇게 복수심에 불타는 하느님의 팔을 붙잡아 주시는 분으로 묘사하였던 것이다. 두 번째 지적할 점은 ;경배 없음; 조사의 방법에 관한 것이다. 한국 교회는 교황청의 명에 따라 순교자들에 대한 불법 경배 조사, 즉 아직 공적으로 성인품에 오르지 못한 순교자들에 대한 공적 경배 조사를 하게 되었다. 그런데 이 일로 인해 신자들은 순교자들에 대한 신심을 드러내는 데 주저하게 되었다. 그 이유는 교회가 개인 신심과 공적인 경배의 차이에 대해 충분히 설명하지 못했기 때문이다. 이미 지나간 과거의 사건들을 상세하게 살펴보고 그 역사적 관계와 변화를 보는 것은 학자들의 책임이라고 본다. At the time of liberation from Japan and during the Korean War, the Korean Catholic Church especially emphasized devotion to Mary and to the Korean martyrs. These devotions were probably intended to lend courage and perseverance to a Catholic population under duress. The Church often talked about the Fatima apparitions. The Madonna of Fatima is well know for prediction of the downfall of Russia the then world leader of Communism. Following Vatican directives, the Korean Church bedeviled Communism, but hailed war participants against communist as Crusaders. The emphasis put on the Korean martyrs was to steel the resolve of believers faced with dangers and death. There are some aspects of the Church's attitude that need further examination. The Church has a responsibility for its faithful and toward history both present and future. First, there is a need to reflect upon the interpretation of the devotion to Mary. The Church held a position of extreme anti-Communism. Mary's wartime role as protector of the people was limited to South Korea, thus exacerbating the separation between South and North. The Church projected the image of an angry God punishing people with war. In turn, Mary was depicted as the one who is holding back the vengeful arm of God. Another point deals with the way in which the so-called ;Non cultu; investigation was conducted. Vatican authorities pressured the Korean Catholic Church into investigating illicit devotion to martyrs, scilicet, to martyrs whose canonization was not officially established. As a result, the faithful were reluctant to admit to and divulge their veneration for these martyrs. This refusal can be explained, in part, by the lack of explanation and distinction made, on the part of the Church, between private devotion and public cult. It is the task of scholars aware of historical realities and change to examine in detail these and other events of the past.

Henry james's works become an effective medium through which his readers can get access to the questions of what is America and who are Americans.Throughout his life James's goal as a writer was devoted to the exploration of the myth of America. To James,the value in America is always unambiguous,where people pay a price for their moral conduct.In this regard, the main characters in james's works embody what James thinks is the American characteristics as represented in Christopher Newman's overconfidence , Isabel Archer's naive assumption of life,and Lambert Strether's excessive moral consciousness.James's concern,however,is not in the presentation of Americans whose ideas are thwarted in the different world of Europe.His real concern is to emphasize the complex fate of Americans:the danger and conflict that Americans inevitably get because of their limited social and cultural assets.Naturally Americans can be an easy victim to the outside world for the mirror image they have made.Because of the lack of the sense of history , culture,and various social institutions, Americans must get involved with other world to find out their defects as people and as a country.

활동 중심의 독서 지도 방법

본 논문에서는 학생들의 읽기 능력을 향상시키기 위한 방법으로, 놀이 형태를 띤 독서 아니마시온방법을 기반으로 하여, 활동 중심 독서지도 방안을 제시해 보았다. 이 때의 활동은 독해를 중심으로 한 활동을 의미하며, 단순한 흥미 위주의 외면적 활동이 아니라, 학생의 지적 능력 및 사고력을 신장시키는 독서 중의 내적 활동을 말한다. 또한 학습목표 도달을 위한 지도에 한정시키기 보다는 독서교육의 궁극적 목표라 할 수 있는 독서 능력의 향상과 독서 태도의 함양에 그 지향점을 두었다. 이를 위해 먼저 국어과 교육과정상 독서지도의 내용을 살펴보고, 독서교육과 교과교육을 연계한 통합교육을 고려하여 교육과정의 '읽기의 원리'에서 가르치고 있는 내용 중, 독서의 과정에서 이루어지는 사고 작용의 방식을 기준으로 기본적인 독해기능인 사실적 이해 기능, 추론적 이해 기능으로 나누어 지도 방안의 예를 제시하였다. 내용 이해 및 확인 전략에서는 부분 독해 기능인 '일이 일어난 차례 알기'와 '음독(낭독)하기', 전체 독해 기능인 '내용 파악하기'와 '제목 붙이기' , 추론적 이해 방법에서는 이어질 내용에 대한 추론하기 지도 방안을 제시하였다. 이러한 지도 방안은 간단하지만 구체적인 활동 중심으로 이루어졌기 때문에 누구나 쉽고 즐겁게 놀이하듯이 할 수 있고, 기초 독서 능력을 신장시키는데 도움이 되리라 생각한다. Reading is not only the basis of education but also the nucleus of it for the whole person. However, even though this is widely recognized and the importance of reading is emphasized, the reality of reading education in school doesn't meet our expectation. To achieve meaningful reading skills in our daily life under this circumstances, a specific teaching methods of reading should be taught to students along with existing educational system. From this point of view, this study suggests teaching methods of an activity-centered reading that is based on the reading animacion to improve students reading skills. Reading animacion is a form of playing to help students increase their ability of reading. What it means by an activity-centered reading method is not external activities simply arousing the interest of reading but internal ones developing the intellectual abilities of reading as well as the way of thinking. The ultimate aims of this report are to improve students reading abilities and to cultivate of reading attitudes rather than just to achieve educational learning aims. To fulfill these goals, this study reviewed the current teaching methods of reading in the Korean language curriculum and suggested three categorized ways of teaching methods, which are taught in 'the reading principles and attitudes'of the curriculum, considering the integrated education related with the education of reading and course. They are understanding and confirming the contents of a story, inferring understanding skills, and cultivating the reading attitudes and habits among the realistic understanding skills In the strategies of understanding and confirming the contents of a story, teaching methods of knowing the sequence of what things happened'and 'reading aloud'which are the skills of a partial reading and understanding,'grasping the contents'which is the skill of a whole reading and understanding,'grasping the topics'and'entitling', In the methods of inferring understanding, inferring contents of what will happen, In the cultivating the reading attitudes and habits, presenting one of the teaching methods to grab the interests about reading. Since these teaching methods place more weight on activities, I believe that anybody can enjoy the pleasure of reading like playing a game and improve their way of reading books for sure. As there is no shortcut to teaching how to read, continuous teaching is encouraged. The result of this research, which will be applied to the real school activities, will be placed on the next study.

포인턴의 소장품 : 미, 소유, 그리고 도덕 Art, Possession, and Morality

The theme of possession has concerned James throughout his literary career. His characters are awakened to the reality of life through their contacts with materials possession. In James's works, the material possession takes a more complicated meaning as it is associated with art and morality. Thus many of his characters such as Isabel Archer, kate Croy and Charlotte Stant reach a renewed sense of life in the face of material acquisition. James's The Spoils of Poynton(1897) is a work in which the relationship of art, possession and morality is inextricably connected. Here, upon the things of Poynton, three main characters embody a different aspect of possession, in the form of aesthetic principle, material pursuit, and moral idealism. With the development of the story the novel reveals what it is to take hold of the things in Poynton. Mrs. Gereth, who has collected and preserved the things in Poynton, considers them as an extension of her life. She insists that the things in Poynton should be inherited to someone who can appreciate the real value of Poynton because the aesthetic principle she holds is the most important. In contrast to this is the idea of Mona to whom the pursuit of things itself is an end. As a result, she sees the things in Poynton as monetary value. The view of Poynton reaches the most complex level in Fleda who connects them with the moral vision. However, the destruction of Poynton in the end suggests that the moral and the aesthetic acts do not exist harmoniously in the realm of possession since the world of possession belongs to the harsh reality where the gain and loss dominates.

The use of the Internet is much increased and the multimedia data such as voice and image should be processed in the Internet. The required characteristics of the communication networks for the 21-st century Internet are the fusion between communications and broadcasting, high speed, large capacity, high intelligence, and personalization. In realizing the characteristics mentioned above, the ATM is the only technique that can practically guarantee QoS and is the core technique in super high-speed service networks. In this paper, we will investigate the international study of the high-speed the satellite communication and then research plans for developing and providing optimum application services.
