본 연구는 울산시 거주 가구의 생활양식 전반에 대한 경향을 의 ·식 ·주생활을 비롯하여 가족생활, 소비생활, 건강생활 및 정보지식추구생활을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이를 통하여 울산이 가지고 있는 지역적인 생활문화의 경향을 파악하고 가족생활 전반에 걸친 가치관 및 생활욕구 패턴을 살펴봄으로써 삶의 질 향상을 위한 지역 정체성 확립에 중요한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study was to examine the overall life style characteristics of households in Ulsan area through analyzing the current conditions of clothing, food, housing, family life, consuming pattems, health and leisure, and information intelligence pursuit activities. The results of this study provide valuable information to improve the rluality of life by understanding the regional living conditions and examining the values and needs of households in Ulsan.

The Korean folk medicine 'Am Cho' has been used as the folk remedy for diuretic, stomach and liver cancer. The botanical origin of the crude drug has not been studied pharmacognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Am Cho', the comparative morphological and anatomical characteristics have been studied of Lepisorus species growing wild in Korea, i.e. L. annuifrons, L. onoei, L. thunbergianus, L. ussuriensis and 'Am Cho' from Korea. As a result, it was clarified that 'Am Cho' from Korea was derived from Lepisorus onoei.

<P><B>Objective</B></P> <P>Examining spine surgery patterns over time is crucial to provide insights into variations and changes in clinical decision making. Changes in the number of surgeries, surgical methods, reoperation rates, and cost-effectiveness were analyzed for all patients who underwent surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis without spondylolisthesis in 2003 (2003 cohort) and 2008 (2008 cohort).</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>The national health insurance database was used to create the 2003 cohort (n = 10,990) and 2008 cohort (n = 27,942). The surgical methods were classified into decompression and fusion surgery. The cumulative reoperation probability between those surgeries was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method in the 2003 cohort and 2008 cohort. Comparison of the incremental cost-effectiveness ratios showed the additional direct cost of a 1% change in the reoperation probability.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>The surgical volume increased 2.54-fold in the 2008 cohort. The age-adjusted number of surgeries per 1 million people increased 2.6-fold (from 154 in the 2003 cohort to 399 in the 2008 cohort) in aged patients and 1.9-fold (from 154 in the 2003 cohort to 291 in the 2008 cohort) in patients 20–59 years old in the 2008 cohort. The proportion of fusion surgeries increased from 20.3% in the 2003 cohort to 37.0% in the 2008 cohort. In total, the 5-year reoperation probabilities increased from 8.1% in the 2003 cohort to 11.2% in the 2008 cohort. Fusion decreased the reoperation probability by 1% at the cost of 1,711 U.S. dollars.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>The increased numbers of spinal surgeries, fusion surgeries, and surgeries in older patients in a recent cohort were noteworthy. However, the increased surgical volume and fusion surgeries did not reduce the reoperation rate.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Examining patterns of spine surgery over time is crucial. </LI> <LI> The national health insurance database was analyzed. </LI> <LI> Increased surgical volume and fusion surgeries failed to reduce the reoperation. </LI> </UL> </P>

<P>Recently, we showed that a combination of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and horseradish peroxidase (HRP) produces hydrogen peroxide (H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>), and that this leads to the apoptosis of G361 human melanoma cells. In the present study, flow cytometric analysis confirmed that H<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> is involved the IAA/HRP-induced apoptotic process. We also found that IAA/HRP increases cell surface CD95 (Fas/APO-1) expression, and that this is blocked by catalase treatment. Furthermore, blocking CD95 with a neutralizing antibody significantly restored IAA/HRP-induced apoptosis. In addition, the IAA/HRP-induced activations of CD95 downstream molecules, <I>i.e.</I>, caspase-8, Bid, and caspase-3, were also inhibited by catalase. Moreover, a caspase-8 inhibitor significantly blocked IAA/HRP-induced apoptosis. These results indicate that IAA/HRP-induced apoptosis involves a CD95-initiated death receptor signaling pathway initiated by hydrogen peroxide.</P>

<P>Conclusion. The choice of surgical method might not always be consistent with cost-effectiveness strategies, and a high proportion of medium-sized hospitals may be responsible for this change.</P>
PCR을 이용한 식품 내 Salmonella 균주의 신속 검출방법

This study was carried out to investigate the simple and rapid detection of Salmonella species in different kinds of food using PCR method. The specific primer sets (STN1 and STN2) was designed and utilized to amplify a 617 bp DNA fragment from Salmonella species. The sensitivity of PCR was 1 pg of purified template DNA or 10² cells from pure culture. The detection limit of Salmonella typhimurium on agarose gel electrophoresis was 10³~10⁴cells/g in the artificially contaminated food samples. These results suggested that this simple method could be applied to industrial fields for detection of Salmonella species in food.
