<P>A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, aerobic, endospore forming and rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain L10(T), was isolated from marine sediment collected from the South Korean coast. The organism grew optimally under conditions of 30 C, 1?% (w/v) NaCl and pH 6.0. It was oxidase-negative and catalase-positive. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain L10(T) was associated with the genus Paenibacillus and most closely related to Paenibacillus barcinonensis BP-23(T) (98.2?% similarity). The major fatty acids of strain L10(T) were iso-C(14?:?0), anteiso-C(15?:?0) and iso-C(16?:?0). The cell-wall peptidoglycan was the A1γ type, and the predominant isoprenoid quinone was menaquinone-7. Strain L10(T) contained two unidentified lipids, an unidentified amino-phospholipid, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, and diphosphatidylglycerol. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 44 mol% and the DNA-DNA hybridization values with closely related strains were below 142?%. Based on phenotypic, genotypic, and phylogenetic data, strain L10(T) should be classified as a novel species within the genus Paenibacillus. The name Paenibacillus oceanisediminis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is L10(T) (?=?KACC 16203(T)?=?JCM 17814(T)).</P>

<P>Ag+-coupled N-doped TiO2 (Ag+–N–TiO2) nanochains were newly synthesized by combination of sol–gel and hydrothermal methods, and their structures were characterized by TEM, SEM, and XPS. The UV-visible diffuse reflectance absorption spectrum of Ag+–N–TiO2 nanochains was observed to absorb visible light in the broad range of 400–800 nm as compared to neat N–TiO2, exhibiting efficient visible light-photocatalytic activity. Their visible light absorption band became much broader and stronger upon formation of composites with heteropoly phosphotungstic acid (HPA), and their photocatalytic efficiency was observed to be further enhanced. The Ag+–N–TiO2 nanochains also exhibited improved photovoltaic performance with significantly high photoenergy conversion efficiency (PCE) (5.6%) under AM 1.5 (100 mW cm−2) as compared to N–TiO2 nanochains. The PCE was observed to be further enhanced to 7.6% by formation of HPA-composites. These results suggest that Ag and HPA play important roles in enhancement of PCE through the cooperative Z-scheme process of the electron transport triggered by two-color visible lights as in the plant photosynthetic system. The HPA-composites were also found to be useful for the dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) as proved by synergistic enhancement of PCE to 10.2% as they are additionally incorporated with Ru-dye.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>HPA-composites of Ag+–N–TiO2 nanochains were fabricated and shown to be highly visible light-sensitive photocatalysts for efficient two-color solar cells operated by cooperative Z-scheme electron transfer as in the plant photosynthetic system. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c1jm11439e'> </P>

<P>A slightly halophilic, Gram-negative, strictly aerobic, non-motile rod, designated TW15T, was isolated from an ark clam in South Korea. Growth occurred at 10-37 °C, with 1-5 % (w/v) NaCl and at pH 7.0-10.0. Optimal growth occurred at 25-30 °C, with 2 % (w/v) NaCl and at pH 8.0. Strain TW15T exhibited both oxidase and catalase activities. The major fatty acids of strain TW15T were summed feature 8 (consisting of C18 : 1ω7<I>c</I> and/or C18 : 1ω6<I>c</I>) and 11-methyl C18 : 1ω7<I>c</I>. The predominant isoprenoid quinone was ubiquinone-10 (Q-10). The polar lipids of strain TW15T comprised phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, an unidentified phospholipid, an unidentified aminolipid and five unidentified lipids. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain TW15T was most closely related to <I>Ruegeria lacuscaerulensis</I> DSM 11314T (98.0 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity). DNA-DNA relatedness with closely related strains was <52±3 %. The DNA G+C content was 55.7 mol%. On the basis of phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic data, strain TW15T represents a novel species of the genus <I>Ruegeria</I>, for which the name <I>Ruegeria conchae</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TW15T ( = KACC 15115T = JCM 17315T).</P>

<P>An inverse agonist of estrogen-related receptor-γ (ERRγ), an orphan nuclear receptor encoded by E<I>srrg</I>, enhances sodium iodide symporter-mediated radioiodine uptake in anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) cells, thereby facilitating responsiveness to radioiodine therapy in vitro. We synthesized potent, selective, and orally bioavailable ERRγ-inverse agonists and evaluated their activity by analyzing in vitro pharmacology and absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity profiles. X-ray crystallographic analysis of the ligand and ERRγ complex showed that <B>35</B> completely binds to the target protein (PDB 6A6K). Our results showed improved radioiodine avidity in ATC cells through compound <B>35</B>-mediated upregulation of iodide-handling genes, leading to enhanced responsiveness to radioiodine therapy in vitro. Importantly, in vivo 124I-positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging revealed that <B>35</B> increases radioiodine avidity in CAL62 tumors. Collectively, these results demonstrated that <B>35</B> can be developed as a promising treatment for ERRγ-related cancer in the future.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Objective: The absence of collateral ventilation (CV) is crucial for effective bronchoscopic lung volume reduction (BLVR) with an endobronchial valve. Here, we assessed whether CT can predict the ChartisTM results. Materials and Methods: This study included 69 patients (mean age: 70.9 ± 6.6 years; 66 [95.7%] males) who had undergone CT to assess BLVR eligibility. The ChartisTM system (Pulmonox Inc.) was used to check CV. Experienced thoracic radiologists independently determined the completeness of fissures on volumetric CT images. Results: The comparison between the visual and quantitative analyses revealed that 5% defect criterion showed good agreement. The ChartisTM assessment was performed for 129 lobes; 11 (19.6%) of 56 lobes with complete fissures on CT showed positive CV, while this rate was significantly higher (40 of 49 lobes, i.e., 81.6%) for lobes with incomplete fissures. The size of the fissure defect did not affect the rate of CV. Of the patients who underwent BLVR, 22 of 24 patients (91.7%) with complete fissures and three of four patients with incomplete fissures (75%) achieved target lobe volume reduction (TLVR). Conclusion: The quantitative analysis of fissure shows that incomplete fissures increased the probability of CV on ChartisTM, while the defect size did not affect the overall rates. TLVR could be achieved even in some patients with relatively large fissure defect, if they showed negative CV on ChartisTM.

Quarantine often provokes negative psychological consequences. Thus, we aimed to identify the psychological and behavioral responses and stressors of caregivers quarantined with young patients after a close contact to a coronavirus disease 2019 case at a children's hospital. More than 90% of the caregivers reported feelings of worry and nervousness, while some of them reported suicidal ideations (4.2%), and/or homicidal ideations (1.4%). Fear of infection of the patient (91.7%) and/or oneself (86.1%) were most frequently reported stressors. A multidisciplinary team including infection control team, pediatrician, psychiatrist, nursing staff and legal department provided supplies and services to reduce caregiver's psychological distress. Psychotropic medication was needed in five (6.9%), one of whom was admitted to the psychiatry department due to suicidality. Quarantine at a children's hospital makes notable psychological impacts on the caregivers and a multidisciplinary approach is required.

Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rare and rapidly progressive disease involving the skin, subcutaneous tissue, and deep soft tissue. Although NF can occur any part of the body, the breast is an uncommon primary site for NF, and its occurrence in the breast during pregnancy has never previously been reported. Here, we report the case of a healthy 31-yearold pregnant woman who presented with NF of the left breast that was successfully treated with breast-conserving debridement and secondary wound closure using negative-pressure wound therapy.
