Keratitis with Elizabethkingia meningoseptica Occurring afterContact Lens Wear: A Case Report

To report keratitis with Elizabethkingia meningoseptica, which occurred in a healthy patient after wearing contact lenses for 6 months. A 24-year-old male patient visited our hospital with ocular pain. This patient had a history of wearing soft contact lenses for 6 months, about 10 hours per day. At initial presentation, slit lamp examination showed corneal stromal infiltrations and small epithelial defect. Microbiological examinations were performed from corneal scrapings, contact lenses, and the contact lens case and solution. The culture results from contact lenses, contact lens case and solution were all positive for Elizabethkingia meningoseptica. Thus, we could confirm that the direct cause of keratitis was contamination of the contact lenses. The patient was treated with 0.3% gatifloxacin. After treatment, the corneal epithelial defect was completely healed, and a slight residual subepithelial corneal opacity was observed. We diagnosed keratitis with Elizabethkingia meningoseptica in a healthy young male wearing soft contact lenses. We conclude that Elizabethkingia meningoseptica should be considered as a rare but potential pathogen for lens-related keratitis in a healthy host.

This paper is written in an attempt to derive some basic materials in desinging the optimum space size of the dispensaries in general hospitals in relation to the waiting times of the patients. The problem of saving time is considered more important than the space problem. Minimizing the waiting time to the effect of spacing efficiency of the waiting room and reducing the nember of people waiting at one time is essential. The results in deriving some materials are as follows ; 1. The number of drug dispensers should be fixed on the basis of 70 prescriptions per day. 2. The waiting room of dispensary should be separated from the main hall leading to the separation of incoming and outgoing exit. 3. The area of waiting room of dispensary (y) is concerned with the out patients per day(x) and it proved to be y=0.169x. 4. The area of dispensary (y) is concerned with the out patient per day (x) and the nember of bed (b) plus α persons and it proved to be y=0.0165x+0.0157b+α

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of noncontact specular microscopy (NCSM) by comparing the measurement of central corneal thickness (CCT) to the measurement with anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and ultrasound pachymetry (USP). Methods: One examiner measured the CCT of 50 eyes of 50 healthy young subjects using NCSM, AS-OCT, and USP. The mean values and correlations were analyzed. Results: The mean CCT value was 546.92 ± 32.06 μm with NCSM, 535.24 ± 30.54 μm with AS-OCT, and 546.38 ± 30.70 μm with USP. The CCT measurements with NCSM and USP were significantly thicker than with AS-OCT (p < 0.001, p < 0.001, respectively). There were no significant differences between the measurements obtained with NCSM and USP (p = 0.505). The 3 instruments were significantly correlated (r > 0.900 in all groups, p < 0.001 in all groups). Conclusions: CCT measurements of healthy eyes using NCSM are more correlated with USP than AS-OCT. The CCT measurement using NCSM is a better alternative for USP than AS-OCT. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2014;55(1):59-65
잔류응력이 강주의 내력에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 ( A Study on Residual Stress Effects upon Strength of Steel Columns )

본 논문에서는 압정강이나 용접판접합부의 잔류응력의 크기나 분포형태에 대한 실험결과를 토대로 중심압축하중을 받는 강주의 기본적인 잔류응력분포형태를 가정하고 근사적으로 모델화 하여 주강도곡선을 수치해석으로 구함으로써, 잔류응력의 분포형태나 크기가 강주의 내력에 미치는 영향을 연구하는데 목적이 있다.

This paper presents the results of experimental research regarding the buckling strength of centrally compressed Welded H-columns, High strength Welded H-columns, and Rolled H-columns. The results are as follows. 1. The experimental regression column curves are in good agrement with the Multiple Column Curves of ECCS and SSRC. But buckling strength of weak axis of Welded H and High strength Welded H-columns shows significantly lower strength. 2. Rolled H-columns are stronger than Welded H and High strength Welded H-columns. 3. The yield strength of stub columns may significantly affected the buckling strength of steel columns.
