The turbulent flows in urban street canyons were investigated by LES (large eddy simulation) with the Smagorinsky subgrid-scale model. Simulated region is the 'Teheran Street' in Gangnam area in Seoul which is one of the representative street canyons. The code was validated by comparing results with Cheng & Castro (2002) on flows over arrays of regularly distributed obstacles. The flows and turbulent statistics were evaluated for various wind directions, and the complex shape of buildings was found to be the key factor affecting turbulence statistics.
