The objective of this research is to study the formations of smoke layer in case of several furniture fires such as trashcan, carpet, mattress and wardrobe as a fire starter in a residential room by performing the experimental studies. The uniformly distributed fire in case of carpet showed that the ignition and the initial growth period were relatively short while the fully developed period was considerably long. The concentrated fires such as the trashcan, mattress and wardrobe showed that the ignitions and the initial growth periods were relatively long. The descending speed of the interface height was proportioned to the inflammability of the furniture and the spread of the fire. The time required to come down around 1m was within 1-3 minutes. The interface heights for the furniture fires were around 1m as the steady state. However, at the time of the maximum temperature, the interface height was lowered to 0.25m-0.75m from the floor. The carbon dioxide concentration reached the highest while the oxygen concentration was minimum.

This study is intended to examine the effect of the evacuation guidance that used phosphorescent material for stairs in the event of smoke and failure of both the power to the lighting and illuminated sign. To achieve the purpose, the test stairs was established and 35 students (1st 20, 2nd 15) were examined the visibility, the convenience and the comfort of going up and down of stairs. The results of this study are as follows; The evacuation from stairs showed that the stair nosing and landing used phosphorescent material for was very effective in dark conditions (0 lux) because of the high visibility of stair nosing and the convenience and the comfort of going up and down of stairs. The phosphorescent material located on the stair nosing and stair landing will aid in evacuation from stairs in the event of failure of both the power to the lightings and illuminated sign. 본 연구는 화재시 연기발생 또는 정전이 발생한 경우 계단을 통해 안전하게 피난할 수 있도록 축광재 료를 부착한 계단의 피난유도에 관하여 조사하였다. 실험조사는 설계 제작된 계단에 35명(1차 20명, 2차 15명)의 학생이 참여하여 계단의 시인성(visibility), 오르내림의 편리성과 안심감에 대하여 실험을 실시하 였다. 실험 조사결과 축광재료를 사용한 계단코는 정전시에도 계단의 단 높이 확인이 가능하여 계단 오르 내릴 때 편리하고 안심할 수 있기 때문에 어두운 곳에서 사람이 피난 행동할 때에 매우 효과적이었다. 따라서 계단코와 계단참에 축광재료를 설치하면 정전이 되더라도 평소와 다름없이 피난을 할 수 있을 것 으로 판단된다.

화재시 실내의 열적성층의 형성을 연구하기 위하여 쓰레기통, 의자, 카페트, 소파, 매트리스 및 장농의 화재실험을 실제건물에서 수행하였다. 카페트와 같은 균등분산 가연물화재의 경우는 초기 점화기간과 성장기의 기간이 화재 전기간에 비하여 매우 짧고, 최성기는 매우 길게 나타났다. 반면에 쓰레기통, 매트리스 및 장농과 같은 집중 가연물화재의 경우는 초기점화기간과 성장기가 매우 길게 나타났다. 쓰레기통과 같은 위에서 아래인 한쪽 방향으로만 연소하는 경우는 봉우리가 하나로 나타났고, 의자, 소파, 매트리스 및 장농과 같은 연소방향이 다양한 화재의 경우는 봉우리가 2개이상 나타났다. 어느 화재의 경우나 경계면이 뚜렷이 나타났고, 상부층의 온도는 거의 일정하며 경계면 높이는 가구화재시 모두 1[m]근처에서 일정한 상태값을 유지하였다. 다만, 최대온도를 나타내는 시간에는 경계면 높이가 바닥에서 0.25[m]내지 0.75[m]까지도 내려왔다. The objective of this research is study on the formations of thermal stratification in a room in case of several furniture fire such as trashcan, chair, carpet, sofa, mattress and wardrobe as a fire starter in a residential room by performing the experimental studies. The uniformly distributed fire in case of carpet showed that the ignition and the initial growth period were relatively short while the fully developed period was considerably long. The concentrated fires such as the mattress and wardrobe showed that the ignitions and the initial growth periods were relatively long. When fire spread to only one direction, like the case for the trashcan with a regular shape, there was one peak of temperature profile, and for the irregular shaped furniture such as chair, sofa, mattress and wardrobe, there were two or more peaks. The interface heights for the furniture fires were around 1[m] maintaining constant state. However, at the time of the maximum temperature, the interface height was lowered to 0.25[m]-0.75[m] from the floor.
